I think there were 2 factors behind Amy Adams Oscar snub for Arrival. 1. Amy Adams had both Arrival and Nocturnal Animals being campaigned for Best Actress and neither of the distribution companies were willing to back down to allow Amy to campaign for just one movie, which ultimately led to a vote split between the two performances. I think the same happened to Sidney Poitier when he was snubbed for Best Actor for both Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner and In The Heat of The Night. 2. After the #Oscarsowhite controversy the year prior, there definitely a lot of pressure to nominate more actors of color and probably the main reason behind Ruth Negga’s nomination. I personally thought they never needed to overcompensate that much, especially considering there were an abundance of great black films like Fences, Moonlight, and Hidden Figures. The actors from all of their respective films were practically locks to get nominated and all were very deserving too. I personally would have picked Amy Adams over Ruth Negga or Meryl Streep.

Looks like this is your most popular video to date. Hollywood should take note of the love the audience has for Amy Adams and capitalize on it more. The problem Amy always seems to have, is she is nominated for the wrong roles or snubbed (Nocturnal Animals, Arrival) and where she is nominated she is never going to win because of timing. Take Doubt, nominated against her co-star Viola Davis, the vote there would likely be split cancelling each other out. The fighter the narrative and publicity behind Melissa Leo too difficult to overcome. Blue Jasmine, how do you beat Cate Blanchett and her it's ''her time narrative''. There are always a lot of mitigating factors as to why she can easily grab a nomination, but falls just shy of the finish line, very much the Glenn close of her generation. Someone always has a louder and bigger machine behind them, in a career defining role (Regina King). Equally her recent choices have been rather lacking in the prestige or overall strength of her earlier work, somewhat damping her chances and dimming her overdue narrative. She needs a good script, strong performance and a quiet year and she will get there, see Jessica Lange in Blue Skye or Renee in Judy.

One of my theories on why Amy Adams was snubbed for Best Actress was because unfortunately the producers for both her movies were campaigning her against herself for Best Actress. She can’t pull a Kate Winslet and campaign her roles for both Lead and Supporting and hope for the best. If the producers for Nocturnal Animals stepped aside and helped campaign their actress for another movie, then I think she could have gotten nominated. But of course, movie producers won’t waste their resources campaigning another movie. It’s kind of like why Sidney Poitier wasn’t nominated in either Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner and In The Heat of The Night. He probably vote splitter himself during the nomination process (it also didn’t help that he was competing against his co-stars Rod Steiger and Spencer Tracy!) which is a travesty! Mr. Tibbs is probably one of the most iconic heroes in movie history!

I just believe that she’s among the select few who are the best actresses of her generation. I really expected her to win for Arrival. That year, having been so great in 2 movies, she was definitely snubbed for not even being nominated. Sharp Objects should have won her multiple awards. The thing with Amy for me is that 1) She just can't get the public behind her: no matter how great she is, the narrartive (which doens't really mean merit) is always on somebody else. She was snubbed for The Arrival and that became a talking point, but previous to the snub that wasn't a movie people were raving about outside of cinephiles and/or genre fans clubs. Natalie Portman managed to make her Jackie movie be all over tinseltown even if very few people had seen it (Arrival grossed almost 3 times more). 2) Character study would have given her lots of Oscars in the 70s, but that's just not what the Academy cares about these days: what wins is that one scene that's easily marketable and that's worth watching the entire movie for. The Arrival or Nocturnal Animals don't have such scene, nor do many of her other performances. She favors stories and characters that have longer arcs with nuance and elaborated storytelling, and her scenes are impressive when seen in sequence, never as standalone. And to be honest, that's why I find her so unique these days. Her strategy is to play the most interesting characters instead of just playing "that one scene" and that's why she's so consistent and is able to go through her filmography with such dignity. The moment she starts begging for it and goes for fighting a bear in the snow, that's when she'll stop being interesting for her fans. PS. Didn't know Jean Marc Vallée had passed. RIP.

Unpopular Opinion:- I like Amy Adams a lot and she has been consistently good in all her roles (I have seen most of her filmography and she's never given any bad performance irregardless of the movie's quality), but the thing is I really cannot recall a performance from her that is excellent enough to be deemed as an Oscar-winning performance (not to say all those actual winners are actually deserving). Strangely though, I admired her performance in Hillbilly Elegy a lot (easily one of my favourite performances of hers along with those acclaimed ones). She is easily the best thing about that movie. That year was an amazing year for actresses and I think she should have been nominated. Besides, Close had one or two good scenes in that movie but tons of bad scenes in between hence I think she totally deserved her Razzie nomination. I'd honestly much rather see Adams and Close staying Oscarless than winning based on the overdue factor for performances that are not deserving.

I'm not sure how unpopular that opinion is. And not to rub salt in the wound but I thought she gave 2 bad performances. She wouldn't name the roles but at least she's aware enough to know what's connected and what hasn't. And fyi, that was the 2012 Hollywood Reporter round table where she admitted that. So if she can say it, so can I. And since it was just 3 short years after Julie & Julia where her performance, if not entire storyline, was critiqued as the weak link of the film, I think it's a safe assumption we share similar opinions about her work in the film.

And honestly, I'm not sure she'll ever win a competitive Oscar. She very well may be this generation's Glen Close except I actually think Close has turned in many Oscar winning worthy performances. Btw, I'm looking forward to that video. I hope Amy finds a role that will get her the gold because she clearly wants it and there are clearly a lot of industry types and commenters on this very video who thinks she's deserving. And I certainly wouldn't begrudge her a win.

She is an amazing and consistent actress who is a successful working actress. I just dont think the Oscars love her enough to give her an Osacr over a more deserving performance. His two main points are she should have won for her firsr nomination and she was seriously ridiculously snubbed for Arrival. The majority of her performances she unfortunately in a category with other powerhouses performances. She never lost to an actress who was less deserving(rachel weisz could be debated). The Oscar race unfortunately is a formula and talented people are left in the dust constantly based on how The Academy "feels about you". And please eff off with the political angles on this subject. Amy may get her day. But I will tell you outside of her fanbase I dont think sadly the Oscars love her enough to give her the prize. And thats is what is truly messed up.

Thank you for this video, brilliant work as usual. I mean, let's not even forget how much Melissa Leo campaigned for her win that probably had a hand in voters swaying for Leo over Adams. That should have been the year for Adams to triumph although I always find myself switching between Adams and the magnetic Jacki Weaver in Animal Kingdom. I also personally found Adams to be more powerful in The Fighter than Leo who I felt was just chewing the scenery (just my opinion, don't come at me in the replies peeps) and was the sore spot from the performances by the cast. I seriously and genuinely do hope that Adams wins one eventually because she absolutely deserves it!

Few things enfurate me more than her snub for Arrival. She should have been nominated for both Arrival and Nocturnal Animals (I know, it's against the rules, but I don´t care). First, this is a phenomenal video. I’m officially a fan and a subscriber. Second, to me, for Amy Adam and her nominations and losses, Sharp Objects baffles and saddens me the most. I loved Fosse/Verdon - and I see why the TV Academy loved it. It’s about a legend of stage/Broadway, dance, song, tv specials and motion pictures, but also a legends equally legendary wife that gets lost in his maniac, narcissistic artistry. Michelle as Gwen Verdon might as well as sung Nine’s “My Husband Makes Movies” in the series. But, there was no performance like Amy’s in Sharp Objects that year. Some TV performances transcend their platform, and I feel the Academy Awards should award them every so often. I feel this way about Amy in Sharp Objects. (Others being Nicole Kidman in BLL, Claire Danes in Temple Grandin, Julianne Moore in Game Change, among other rare performances given on TV.) I’ll admit, I’m biased about Sharp Objects. I started reading it a week or two before the show premiered, and finished it before the last 2-3 episodes. Same with some of my other favorite books/films/shows/adaptations/performances, including Big Little Lies & Revolutionary Road. I knew Amy was playing Camille, and the other actors playing many of the characters, but Amy became Camille. It’s a masterclass performance. It’s a character that could easily been phoned in, making Camille obviously sloppy and messy and mentally struggling/disturbed, but Amy plays her with beautiful caution, careful confidence - conveying Camille’s confidence in her sarcasm- and Riveting nuance that always reads realistic and never forced. I can’t say enough about Sharp Objects as a show and book, and especially Amy as Camille. I believe she should have gotten the recognition & praise and swept the awards the way Nicole Kidman did in Jean-Marc Caller’s precious project and equally amazing & beautiful adaption of a fantastic novel, Big Little Lies. Plus, after all the Academy Award nominations and never going home with the trophy, wouldn’t you think the TV Academy would want to give her an Emmy? Especially for a deserving performance with an amazing cast, great reviews, and in the lead actress category? To me, her lack of awards for Sharp objects was, and is still, a travesty. Now that I’ve waxed lyrical about Amy in Sharp Objects, I think part of her losses are timing and the other female performances given in the same year of many of her nominations/best performances on film. I’ll admit, I still need to see Junebug. She was great in Doubt, but the vote was split, plus, it was either Winslet or Cruz’s year. I personally wanted Winslet to win for the Reader in Supporting (even though she was quite obviously the lead actress in the film - also another beautiful adaption of a great book) and Winslet win the Oscar for Lead Actress for Revolutionary Road (one of my fav films and books of all time - another amazing adaption of a fucking amazing book. American Beauty’s Sam Mendes adapting a 50’s family/marriage drama with Winslet & DiCaprio? Doesn’t get better.) I personally thought Adams performance in the fighter was better than Leo’s, but it was the last flashy role. The Master was phenomenal, but Amy’s Role was not big enough to compete with the other nominees that year. It was fucking terrifying and amazing though. I personally wanted her to win for lead in American Hustle, but Blanchett’s Blue Jasmine was a tour-de-force that could not be reckoned with & can not fight Blanchett’s win. (Similar to Amy’s loss for The Master previously.) I personally wanted and felt Amy should have won for Vice. Everytime she came on the screen, she commanded the audiences’ attention, as well as the characters in the film around her, and had some amazing scenes and dialogue, giving a fantastic power/success hungry wife that becomes the perfect political wife to the man she encouraged to become powerful and ruthless at any cost. But, like most of the years Amy lost, someone else (that year, Regina King) was locked in to win in Amy’s category. I don’t think she will, but I still hope & pray that Amy does not end up our modern Deborah Kerr (another redhead) or, her recent co-star as mentioned), Glenn Close. I’ve read rumors that she’s been the frontrunner to play Janis Joplin in a biopic. Between her musicals and sex appeal & fluidity in American Hustle, and the raw, dirty, Gritty nuance of Sharp Objects, I think she’d be amazing as Joplin, and could be her award winning turn (much like Renee in Judy & Jessica Chastian [spelling?] in Eyes of Tammy Faye.) All the love & light.

It was in "Junebug" when I first noticed Adams. It was then when I predicted she was going to be a star. I've said that only two other times: with respect to Molly Parker and Amanda Seyfried. While those two actors have had excellent careers, they have yet to quite reach the heights of Amy Adams. Ultimately, whether she wins an Oscar or not, she's already recognized as one of the great actors of her generation, and will be in the good company of such peers as Emily Blunt, Michelle Williams, and Naomi Watts, who've also never won an Academy Award. Ultimately, an Oscar is just a footnote in a long career filled with brilliant performances. And it's those memorable roles - and not her awards - that will be remembered, as they have been for the likes of Barbara Stanwyck, Myrna Loy, Marilyn Monroe, and countless others who've never won.
