The B-52's - Planet Claire
Recorded Live: 11/7/1980 - Capitol Theatre - Passaic, NJ
More The B-52's at Music Vault: www.musicvault.com
Subscribe to Music Vault on KZbin: goo.gl/DUzpUF
Personnel:
Fred Schneider - vocals, keyboards, glockenspiel, various toys
Cindy Wilson - vocals, percussion
Ricky Wilson - guitar
Kate Pierson - vocals, keyboards, bass
Keith Strickland - drums
Summary:
This is a terrific document of the group shortly after the 2nd album release. They play the 2nd album in it's entirety as well as most of the first album. It's b&w, but well lit, good audio and every second of it is here. The original lineup (they look so young!) bursting with creativity on their first tour as headliners.

Kate is playing a synth bass with her left hand, the synth lead with her right hand, AND singing as well. That takes discipline.

randall2020, I was 20, newly Separated, staying on my Bestie’s (at the time) Mom’s LR couch. We (not the Mom) went, almost every night to a New Wave dance club for underage people, ALL night. They’d close around 5:30am, daily. Magical youth! I miss it like crazy, sometimes.

It's kind of a bummer if you don't have some _fun_ bands (on a more or less silly scale) around. Where are they now? I expect there are some around but somehow I don't know any. Yeah, we had The Presidents of the United States of America but they called it quits in 2016 so Chris could focus on children's music.

On the album, it credits "Ricky Wilson - Guitar, Smoke Alarm" Fred used a walkie-talkie for the "Beep Beep" sound in the intro though. *EDIT* This edit came after the comment got two thumbs up; I meant that Fred used a walkie talkie for this live version, and he did that for at least one other live version. *EDIT 2:* Fred used the walkie talkie for Planet Claire and Ricky played the smoke alarm for the few Beep Beeps in Rock Lobster.

@@traekas7228 You're welcome. Also, Ricky's approach to what guitars he used, and the number of strings, and the strings he used, was quite a unique combination. He normally played guitars that most professional players didn't really care for at the time, some which many still don't. His main guitars were Mosrite (pronounced "Moe's Right") models, and he had at least 4 of them by this concert. He also had an Epiphone ET-290, and a Danelectro (Dan Electro.) I won't go into great detail, but he normally used guitar string sets of .13s, which are the thickest you can get before going into Baritone String territory. However, he also set his Blue Mosrite MK V up with that weird Bass and Guitar String Hybrid set that he probably made up. His odd tunings would omit the G string, but one tuning omitted both the D and G strings. He also used the thickest guitar picks he could, and struck the strings hard. There's more info over at the Facebook group "The Genius of Ricky Wilson."
