@@alexgreifenkamp I don't think the idea of comparing games is that the person reading/watching the review has complete knowledge of all games that are remotely similar to the game being reviewed. The idea is to give the audience opinion about the game being reviewed, yes, but also to compare against the competition to give the audience a baseline. For example, let's say you're making a review of a totally fictional fighting game that is coming out. This is a market with a lot of competition. Even assuming the gameplay and graphics are pure 10/10, the game being good doesn't mean that it doesn't have its quirks. Maybe the game has crappy tutorials and isn't very newcomer friendly. Maybe the game is shipped without some basic features. Maybe the game has P2W DLC. *cough* Tekken 7 *cough*. It would be a disservice to the audience to not mention other games in the same genre or even older games from the same series. You have to make a baseline of "what the community expects" and "what the community believes is good." You can't expect people to have played all of the Battlefield games, or all of the CoD games, or all the Street Fighter games, but you can definitely say "this other game has such and such which was changed/removed/added in this title I'm reviewing."

I haven't had any issues with frame rate, so the D1 patch fixed that, and the game has been a BLAST. Also, my personal favorite is the Hook and Blade, it's so damn evasive and deals great damage fast. As for a challenge run, I would say Karakuri only, but it takes forever to unlock damaging karakuri, and waiting for your hunting buddy to kill it isn't an option either, since it attacks so rarely. It might be viable if you focus all upgrades on it into attack, though. Food for thought. Fun fact; Karakuri is from Japanese folklore and is basically wooden automaton controlled by magical strings.

P.S its one of the games amalgamating form the mosnter hunting formula we all know of, it aint going to be one of those games replacing a "franchise" that founded the sub-genre mostly coming from a *"new"* IP with a solid community, as stating the obvious the game is inspired of MH. Wild Hearts, being a successor to Toukiden. Other than performance issues since being a title co-develop by the division of KOEI TECMO, it's tolerable enough due to how comprehensive the mixed genre the game offers for its AA scale, like Eurojanks. I dig the building mechanic as its identity, for its gameplay palette to give a fresh experience amalgamating from Monster Hunter; it offers more for its plethora of gameplay variety, making it more engaging and dynamic with its added verticality.

Iffy performance is one thing, but another entirely when you're new to everything and the games you want to play aren't working as intended so you get even more confused. Yeah. The main issue I had was that you basically are only allowed to make a single mistake before you die (2 shots, 1 kill if you're not fast enough with the heals), and every time you die you get pushed preeeeetty far back with no way to skip past everything you've already done or skip cutscenes. Just got tedious after awhile. At least with Salt I could skip past fights I had already overcome and sprint straight to the bosses.
@Cayden.1 Жыл бұрын
@@TheBacklogs that's pretty fair, the combat is very hard to get a hang of and is quite punishing. no i frames on rolls with enemy unblockable attacks make it especially hard and wrong positioning could mean an unavoidable death if an enemy attack comes at the wrong place at the wrong time. the other gripes i didnt understand tho with the long run backs... in my run most of the boss fights had a save point bench near them and i didnt have to repeat common enemy encounters that locked you in the area untill they were killed. I did save the game after beating those common enemy encounters so maybe that played a role in avoiding repeat forced encounters? Maybe they patched it, pretty much all the boss fights had a save point 12 seconds away from them. with healing.. healing was less brutal than i thought, it seems slow but enemies actually can't kill you unless you are at extremely low health (screen turns black and white). if you heal just enough to get out that danger zone you can survive any hit, lets say you get hit for 1 health remaining, if you heal to above 25% and the screen colors become normal again you can live any hit. healing to full is what makes healing hard since attacks always two shot anyway untill you get better armor and healing to full is very slow. basically you can never get oneshot and never die if your above the low health threshold so you need to heal alot less than needed. dont get me wrong the game is insanely hard but i stuck with it till the end because i could get right back into the action right away and i could avoid losing by healing a little bit above the lowhealth threshold to avoid death.

I am really enjoying the game so far, idk if its the 100+ hours of monster hunter under my belt but the game definitely seems more approachable than monster hunter, all the systems from building to crafting etc are super streamline and nothing is particularly obfuscated. I am playing on PC and have had zero performance issues on 4k 60fps everything ultra but motion blur off, so whatever they did patch wise seemed to have worked. The steam reviews have gone from Mostly Negative at launch to Mixed now, mostly because so many people left negative reviews before the day one patch came out. I trust Koei and omega more than i distrust EA so am hoping everthing will get sorted so people can all experience the game as intended.

This game is more approachable than MH for sure. Sadly its because the combat is good and they made QoL changes MH really needs.

Personally Iove this game. I've played and beaten world and rise and this game, as far as mechanics go, is just simply superior.

Some of the base camp stuff and seeing the skill tree makes it feel like there is going to be a lot of clatter in the game, for me at least. I am definitely going to give this game a shot, but I don't know if it will become my go to hunting game.

I honestly thought I was going to hate it. I called it MH with fortnite thrown it. I gave it a shot because the weapons looked interesting. I will never be able to go back to the sluggishness of MH combat after playing this game.

@@demonintellect9834 It currently costs too much for me to try. $90 is too much for a game I am not guaranteed to enjoy. It also hasn't completely sold me on combat or monster design. I like that it is different from Monster Hunter, but I am not a fan of how it's different.

@@Kodiak_P I didn't think I would be either. Like I said I hated on the game saying it was trash and a MH clone, but I'm happy I tried it.
