Touge is a word most of you would have heard thrown around in TV, Games, and casual chats about Japanese & JDM car antics, but what is it that is so special about these Japanese back roads? Today, Jared explains what touge is and how it came to be. We answer the question, what is Japanese touge?

Very good and informative video. Touge is the real drifting. Turn left to go right. This is a very dangerous thing to do actually. I "drive" "Mount Akina" in my racing rig in Assetto Corsa and it scares the sh*t out of me. Keiichi is the DRIFT KING Touge racing is very dangerous. Thank you for the video

they didn't explain it well. They completely skipped over what touge actually is, which is 90% of the time grip racing while utilizing slip angel/ 4 wheel drifting. But drift touge is more popular in japan, while normal touge is more popular in the US. Both countries have a huge population of touge drivers.

just so you are aware, Touge is NOT just drifting. Touge is mainly grip racing. Drift touge is obviously drift touge. The "drifting" in initial D is 4 wheel steering/slip angle, its just extremely hyped up. In real life it's not super noticeable while watching unless you know what you're looking at, but it feels like you're floating through the corner. So touge = grip racing on backroads Drift touge = drift racing on backroads. The more you know.

Grew up in North East VIC, Australia. Tons of mountain passes there, my favourite is Tawonga Gap that's located a mere 4kms from my mum's house. Used to tear that up in my old '81 Holden TE Gemini (a rebadged Opel Kadett sedan) had a crack at it in a couple of Ford Falcons but would love to go up there in my new' 23 I30N :D

uuu nice for you to mention Nightride boys, they are awesome, and yes, in the mountains we do have some really cool roads, for example in Stara Wieś, near Limanowa, we have a cool section of the road that is used as a rally stage, it's even got racetrack grater on it, once my SW20 is completed, I'm going there

U can win touge by driving average car like Prius. Trust me. The only thing consider for touge is either u have gut to control your car trough out corners or not

I'd disagree. Although you could have the guts to race the touge, there are limits to your car. At my touge region, I always tell people there two limits, your limit (driver limit) and your cars limit.

Touge is awesome, but very dangerous. It’s unacceptable unless you are a skilled or professional driver, taking proper safety precautions, in a properly set up machine, and on a CLOSED COURSE. Endangering innocent people is never cool.
