Love this.. he never pulls punches about the state of the music industry... its a machine... it chews up great artists and spits them out... glad you have resisted the urge to become a recipe for succes Ian and done things your own way... the road less travelled for sure but like everyone before you that had to take the long road, its what makes it yours.. and not theirs...

@@schichter Thank you for the interview. I just found Ian a few months ago and I'm devouring BW's catalog. Gotten a little obsessed with him so checking out a lot of his interviews. You pulled more and different info out of him than most. Most other interviewers ask 80% of the same, fairly mundane questions. Unfortunately our society is obsessed with gossip, innuendo & scandal, and creates caricatures of people. You turn caricatures back into real people. I was so impressed with your ability to connect that I listened to more interviews... even Skyler Grey and Katy Perry (which I have never liked or listened to). You brought out the real person in them (although you did seem nervous with Skyler LOL). My prejudices of them as shallow puppets was challenged and I realized they really are artists that have just figured out the business side of the industry. All I knew of Skyler was the cover of her album and her Eminem connection, I figured she was just one of his harem. Had no idea how talented she is, the cabin story floored me. And although I think she was much more attractive back then, it still made a real person out of her. Same with Katy. Funny, because I went through this process with John Mayer 5-6 years ago. All I knew was “Say” and “Body is a Wonderland”, and a few terrible quotes of things he said; thought he was a shallow pop star, didn’t even know he played guitar! He is now in my top 5 guitarists of all time, and I even watch his goofy show Current Mood. Hilarious guy, extremely intelligent, and definitely not defined by some inevitable arrogance of being a young rock star. Anyways, I see that you don’t do interviews anymore, I hope you are doing something you love and wish the best to you. Unfortunately deep personal convesations are not as marketable as TMZ style tabloid gossip LOL. I don’t know if that has anything to do with your new direction but I hope you continue to exercise your gift to connect with seemingly unreachable people on a deep level. It is a gift, even if it doesn’t bring you millions of dollars. Wow. Can’t believe I wrote all that.

I got here through following Pete Thorn (who just seems like the most down to earth Guitar guy) at the Suhr factory party. I had never heard of Ian Thornely, however, hearing "That Song" was so immediately familiar and huge at that. I really enjoyed this interview, and I mean both of these guys. Australians have an innate sense what is genuine, and there is no Bullshit in these guys, just talent and candid appreciation of talent and craft. Respect!

I more than enjoy the paralyzing and hypotonic sounds he creates from beginning to end. The humility is cool, honest and smart. He's describing exactly what I want to hear from him. His influences, how they find their way into his tunes. I try to spot some, caught a few. I like that he can avoid resorting to trying to be a comedian. s his stuff accessible to mass market or not? I love the stuff but might the common denominator of top shelf of popularity and money. They're so Interesting, how aren't they Aerosmith or something. They're better. I mean I like them more.

That is like saying people know the future. That's like saying people know the taste of a pie before eating it. Until you click you don't know what it's like! Ian is far from humble. How can you interview ego? Ego doesn't interview very well. Maybe on the right day Iain is reasonable but this guy is in the clouds on this one.
