Wow, had no idea about this! Thanks so much, I’m pretty much a newbie. I’ve had lots of experience being recorded but now want to produce my own music. These tutorials are hugely helpful. Thanks!

A great tip. Logic has so many ways of operating that sometimes these little things get overlooked. A nice easy way to balance tracks internally that I had not seen before, so thanks.

I been doing this for almost my entire time doing audio production. I was very unsure if it was "right", but I kept doing it and nobody said otherwise. This is the first video I've ever seen that talks about this technique. I call it "manual compression". I also will do light compression with a plugin.

Great course this, Colin. Logic can seem a bit intimidating but your short and snappy tutorials make it look straightforward. What an inspiration you are, as ever. Woof to Chunk!

I knew about Clip Gain but haven't used it much - I'm DEFINITELY gonna use it more to help with takes that are great but for too much/little signal. Thanks!

Huge help! Always looking for better ways to balance a mix now! I spent years pushing every stem near the red and wondering why everything was fighting for space. Now pulling things back and finding their place in the composition has started helping so much!

I always wondered about the order of operations. I usually use a gain plugin for automating audio though

Always great advice. This is something I hadn't used before. I'll still use automation but this technique seems to do the heavy lifting instead. Thanks!

I wish we could draw points and curves of region gain. IIRC you can do it in Pro Tools.

When recording via the Scarlett interface, even though I keep the volume levels low, well below -12db, they still clip. No indication of clipping but my ears don't lie. Any clue as to what is going on here? The signal path goes through my mixer into the the Scarlett into Logic.

Is there no way to do prefader gain automation in Logic? I'm quite new to Logic, I used to do this in Reaper a lot. Alternative would be to use the gain plugin first in chain and automate that. I'm always feel wary about splitting clips and introducing possibly unnecessary cross fades or clicks/pops, but maybe my concerns are unfounded in Logic. Anyways thanks for the advice, made me subscribe!

Not that I'm aware of! I've definitely done the gain plugin automation trick if I needed fine automation for any reason. But generally speaking I find this to be more effective and simpler. Glad you enjoyed!
