I think this song just fits Freddie's entire life. He pretended to be what others wanted him to be, and he was ready to just be who he was. There was always this duality in almost every aspect of his life, even with those closest to him. His closest circle has always said that NO ONE ever knew the true Freddie. This song expresses this so deeply.❤

We know that Freddie was a great among singers and front men, but the video also shows what a great sense of humor he had. He certainly was not afraid to poke fun at himself - a sign of a man confident in his abilities.

I'll tell you what, every time that last line "pretend that you're, still around" where he really carries the notes, that always sends chills through me, a lot of people don't realise he could hit notes as high as that and don;t notice it because of the rasp and richness of his voice, but its truly astonishing, and yes, he knew how well this song fir him personally, not just with the music and putting on a charade publicly as the "arrogant confident frontman" with him being shy and a truly loving, caring and generous person, but also the loneliness he had and the fact he had to "pretend" growing up knowing full well he was different and the fact he had to hide his sexuality for so many years. He was the great pretender , but we love him for who he was in every aspect, the frontman who was a legend whilst alive, who's pretty much literally worshipped as a god now, but also of the tender, caring human behind the mask of the show, the person that loved and cared for his family and friends unconditionally. PS, both my parents got to see Queen live, my mum in 77 and again in 80 i think, and my dad in 86 at their last ever show at Knebworth, my dad never got to meet Freddie personally, but on both occasions of my mum going to see them, she met him, and she says, she's never seen someone so beautiful, not just his physical looks, but she said you could feel the love he had for his fans, he was truly humbled and forever grateful to every single one of his fans for showing their support, even though he'd never truly let on how much he cared, that if you met him, you'd know instantly that he truly did. Sadly i was just under a year old when he passed away, but I was raised listening to them and the stories my mum ad dad had of their concerts, which i'll be eternally grateful for. Great video from you guys! Love from the UK!

I totally agree with you!!! Best part of the song is that last verse.

That is very true. Especially about Freddie hitting high notes. His voice was rich with a darker tone then most tenors in popular music. Therefore people often realize how high he sang.

I tell you what, as a fan of 50s music from way back, it's really hard to compare the two. I absolutely love the original, but I'm such a massive Queen and Freddie fan, that I adore this cover also. Such a great tune, brilliantly performed in both versions :)

This song was meant to have ended up on a covers album which ended up getting scrapped because he ended up doing the "Barcelona" album. Freddie was approached to appear in "Phantom of the opera" musical, Freddie was reported to have done a demo for that song which was going on the album, I hope its true and will surface one day. Peter Straker is a fabulous singer, checkout some of his singles, "Heart be still" is great. Please check out some of Brian May's solos, "Ressurection" is a guitar extravaganza.

This song was covered by at least a dozen other bands, including Roy Orbison, Pat Boone, Righteous Brothers and an acoustic version by George Harrison. It was also the inspiration for the title of one of my favorite bands “The Pretenders” with Chrissie Hynde.

Hey Jude , funny story about Chrissie. She lived just down the street from my parents in Akron, Ohio. During the summers, she worked the concession stand at our area concert venue, Blossom Music Center, so she could meet the stars!

lyricl1 That’s cool! I saw them in concert in college in 1979, I think. I’ve seen over 50 bands, and get confused sometimes. Old age! She’s now touring with Journey. I live near Springsteen & Bon Jovi. I took my son to Bruce’s farm on Halloween many moons ago (he’s now 22). He & Patty answered the door themselves. Unfortunately, Bon Jovi just put his NJ house up for sale. First, he campaigned to elect our horrible Governor, who continues to raise our taxes. Now he’s selling because the taxes are too high. Go figure. I wish that the entertainment industry would stay out of politics. Thanks for your story!

@isthisjustfantasy75574 жыл бұрын
@@The1queencollector What are you talking about? There was absolutely nothing to 'forgive'. When they had a break from each other Brian and Roger both had solo work before Freddie did. So no, all wasn't forgiven as Freddie didn't do anything that required forgiveness. Try getting your information from sources other than a mostly fictional movie.
