Montserrat Caballé was one of the best sopranos ever. She had great control of her voice. Freddie admired her a lot and they made an entire album together called Barcelons as well. They became really good friends. When Freddie passed away she was devastated. She also passed away few years ago.

Freddie Mercury was so much more than a rock singer, he was a brilliant musician, an excellent singer, songwriter, storyteller. He had an eclectic musical taste, and the range to sing operatic songs. Montserrat Caballé was one of the most famous opera divas of the last century, she was famous for her very high soft notes. Freddie and Montserrat became good friends very quickly, they adored each other and Montserrat was brave enough to take the risk of singing with a rock star, because she recognized The Musician in Freddie instantly. Yes, it was playback, they simply didn't have enough time to rehearse for the live performance. Ku Club in Ibiza was huge, at its zenith, the Ibizan club had 20 bars throughout its grounds, a 10,000-person capacity. Great reaction, thank you. Please, check out The Golden Boy at La Nit 88.

Two souls that were meant to sing together, I could listen to this every day. This may have been lip sinked but you should know that Freddie could pull this off any day of the week & Montserrat being the best Opera singer of her time would have no trouble with this at all. X

Good to see you back, best wishes for you and your family! ❤ "I could hear that every day!" Well, I do, for around 15 years "Barcelona" is the ringing tone of my mobile, and I still haven't had enough of it! In contrary I tear up every time I hear or watch this performance. I know it's crazy, I own the album and I cry for 30 years for Freddie... It's so tragic that he passed away half a year before the Olympics started, so Freddie was already ill (and he hided it bravely) when they recorded all that. There are only 4 voices in my life that I really love(d): Freddie, Pavarotti, George Michael - 😭 - and Dimash.... ❤️💔❤️🩹

Freddie was asked to write a song to be the introduction to the 1992 Summer Olympics which were held in Barcelona. Freddie had for a long time been a great admirer of Montserrat (and she of him) who was born in Barcelona and so he wrote this duet. They went on to record an album together also called Barcelona. Very sadly Freddie died a few months before the games featured his song. Monserrat who was widely considered one of the greatest sopranos of the 20th century died in 2018.

This was a live presentation of the studio recording. They were lip synching as it just was too difficult to create the equal dynamics between the two performers in what was basically a nightclub in Ibiza by the pool. But it serves as a wonderful presentation of the song, and of their skill as live performers.
