The Dinorwic quarry (/dɪˈnɔːrwɪɡ/ din-OR-wig; Welsh: [dɪˈnɔrwɪɡ]; also known as Dinorwig quarry) is a large former slate quarry, now home to the Welsh National Slate Museum, located between the villages of Llanberis and Dinorwig in North Wales. It was the second largest slate quarry in Wales, indeed in the world, after the neighbouring Penrhyn quarry near Bethesda. It covered more than 700 acres (283 ha) consisting of two main quarry sections with 20 galleries in each and a number of ancillary workings. Extensive internal tramway systems connected the quarries using inclines to transport slate between galleries.
There is so much more to see here I may come back again soon with some safety equipment & show you guys some more of what this incredible place has left! Hope you enjoy the videos guys 🙂

That massive hill was my work place for some time, walking up and down every day and can still see the fruits of our labours from a distance. Gratifying.

I cannot get enough of Wales, I live in Birmingham and used to make regular trips to Snowdonia, I’ve gotten a bit too old now for all the walking so it’s nice to be able to watch it from my armchair. I’ve watched it three times so far and see something different everytime, it’s just breathtaking, “beautiful”!!

I was last up there back in 2018, and watched the sun go down from that lookout point you were at earlier in the video. I may be English born and raised, but Wales calls to me in a way that nowhere else on earth does. Truly, Wales is God's Country.

Absolutely stunning. Beautiful scenery. Must have been a hardy lot to have worked the slate mine day in, day out with all kinds of weather. The addition of the old films really added a great touch. Thank you for bringing me to a place that I'll probably never see in person. Job well done, Cheers 👊👍✌

I envy the Welsh for the beautiful land with its lush hills and rich colors! In addition to it, the slate gray tones create an unbelievable contrast and texture to the images, it is truly breathtaking and in some places intimidating! But it doesnt end there, the day provided near perfect lighting with clouds casting their shadows on the mountains and the flooded pit with the crystal clear water looked like a jewel. I feel like this is the visually most pleasing video I have seen on your channel... thank you for sharing it!

Clash of the titans was filmed there. When the water is low or near gone, there's a little building in there & 3 little stone paths that they used for filming. Its a stunning place to be. I do spend the day there exploring 🙂

I work for a company not far from there and travel down for office days every couple of weeks, and I've done that for a couple of years now. I kept telling myself to go explore one evening and last week I did just that. Epic. Amazing. Breathtaking. All of that and more. You simple can not begin to understand the scale of the place until you are up there. I barely scratched the surface so I will need to return.

Having lived not far from there . I was lucky to hike and climbe different slate quarries when I was younger. Great memories. Unfortunately visitors and tourists take the slate for themselves. Working as an instructor at an activity centre on our days off we would climb there and finish the day by jumping in the lake . Great video thanks for the memories 👍🏻

If I remember rightly it was a blast shelter. The 2 rows of cottages you access from the bus stop/ Blue Peris are the Anglesey Barracks. weekday accommodation for the workers from ( as I'm sure you'll have worked out) Anglesey. The wagons went down the incline and on to the Padarn Railway to Port Dinorwig / Y Felinheli. I tried to follow it in a vid on my channel. The quarry was the second biggest in the world. The biggest was the Penrhyn quarry by Bethesda where Zip World now is. We've had a few landslides into the lakes so you were right not to risk a dip. Did you visit the bomb store while around Llanberis?

WOW, fantastic views, you were really high up... the mining of the slate, and deep water pond reminded me when i lived in Vermont, USA, where they still mine Granite, some of the old quarries are 100 feet from the collected water line.. Some people dive from the top into the 30 feet of water depth .. a missed dive and you are dead... Plus we have the rolling hills like those in Wales. Thanks for all the effort you put into this video..👍👍👍
