Should Christian women work outside of the home? This video is a candid conversation between me and my wife on the subject. We had a great time filming this video and we hope that it gives you some clarity on the subject.
Perhaps you are in a situation where you and your spouse are considering leaving a corporate job or even returning to one. How should Christians process this type of decision? Jennifer and I deal with that specifically in this video.

This is a great and valuable conversation. As an attorney, many people expect me to focus on being a high powered career woman. But i have made choices to be in a position where my family can come first. The schedule is flexible and the maternity leave is top tier. My job knows my boundaries and I know when to say no so my family can come first. For me, it’s not whether or not a wife should work. It’s whether family can still be first. My career doesn’t give me identity, it is the means by which my husband and I can work together and balance work, life, and ministry but always putting the marriage ministry first.

@nnelson4557
@nnelson4557 2 жыл бұрын
@@nataliesal342 anything is possible. But I would examine why you have a desire to be a high powered career woman. Is that God telling you what He has for you, or is that your ego? There’s no judgment in that question. If that’s what God has for you, excellent. But I realized after law school and being an attorney for 5 years nothing is as important as my family. And a lot of us think you can just have a kid when you’re ready. But I’m 32, and after trying for 2 years, I would say putting off trying to build a family for a career,..That’s not what God wants for me. It could be what He wants for you. But it’s a question you should be asking.

And indeed He will take care of you. Just trust Him. In 2020 God spoke to me clearly during private prayer and worship. 1)’Give me your doctors uniform’ I saw my entire career flash before me and how I had not been pointing the patients/ staff to Christ. How many had I told that they needed to repent and put their trust in the Lord? I immediately handed over my scrubs to the Lord and I wept. 2)’Will you remain my golden candle?’ 3)’You better go and declare yourself a missionary’. And since then to the glory of God I have been a stay at home mum as well as an Intercessor and a street preacher. I have even had the great privilege of leading former patients to Christ!!! 🕊 Praaaaaise the Lord!!! I have also had the privilege of writing and directing a Christian film. 🎥 🍿 I can’t thank God enough for giving me a supportive ( really patient ) and loving husband who works full time and supports what I do. THANK YOU JESUS!!!! PS: In the book of revelation 1:20 it explains the meaning of golden candlesticks…In case anyone wants clarification… “The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.” Thank you and may God bless you as you pray, listen to His voice and obey. I love this! As a former career woman and now a stay-at-home wife, I'm struggling about my worth, identity and purpose. My husband explicitly told me that he doesn't prefer me to work full-time again since he's working and I need to focus on managing our home. I have started making art crafts for business but I don't earn as much as I did when I was an employee. And with our society and country's culture where being a housewife or a stay-at-home mother isn't considered a profession, I kinda felt unaccomplished, belittled and insecure. From your insights, God has reminded me to always seek my worth and purpose in Him. My value isn't dependent on what I do, but on what He has done for me. And I need to live according to how He has called me. Thank you so much, Mr. and Mrs. Parr. ✨

Finances are a struggle and have been for most of my adult life. As I look back I realize that most of the time and still even now I have to get creative with how I can earn some extra money and how I can save extra money. So I tutored other kids I watched other kids I cleaned offices at night after my husband came home. I traded daycare with friends so that I could work a part-time job and my husband took on a lot of extra hours as well. There was definitely an Ebb and flow and there were a few years in there where I did not have to work that much and other years that I had to work more. You just take it one year at a time and then break it down to one day at a time. And every day I still praise the Lord

God knows in your heart you do not trust Him if you make a decision to be obedient off of financial prosperity or need. God promises to provide all we need. So we don't base our obedience on that. Obedience comes at a cost but also a reward. But you should never base a decision on anything other than what God says. If a husband tells his wife to work, God says to obey Him and we have to trust in the Lord. If we stay home knowing we are commanded to and the husband degrees, you need to do that despite what happens financially. But in my case, God has abundantly blessed and provided without college degrees and with my husband making $9 an hour when we had our first child in 2012. And as we have had more children, God has increased us our income and we live in California. You can trust God but most Christians do not and we and others suffer the Earthly consequences.

It feels like this whole video is saying that women should not have visions of their own and lives of their own outside their marriage and their kids. Allen said this video would look at both sides but it felt like Jennifer insinuated that if you are a woman who's thriving at work and you don't feel any "mommy guilt", there's something wrong with you. I think this topic requires voices that come from different ways of life because honestly if you're gonna be a Pastor's wife, you're not really gonna have ambitions of your own outside your husband's ministry cause being a Pastor is a lot of work. His vision becomes your vision. But I am gonna speak and say this, I was raised by a single mom, and she keeps excelling in the work place, my aunt is studying to become a nurse practitioner and her marriage is as strong as a rock, my other aunt is studying to obtain her Masters in Pediatrics. The last one I mentioned lives in Zimbabwe, she's studying so hard and she works so hard so that she can find a job in a Western country and give her family a better life. I think Jennifer should have stressed the importance of Wisdom and being able to find a balance cause I don't believe it's God's desire that every woman stays at home.

I love this comment and I agree!! Being wife to a Pastor is a whole different scenario than your husband not being in ministry. Nevertheless, I also think it’s a cultural thing. I believe you’re African based on your comment on your family member in Zimbabwe; I’m Nigerian. And I’ve observed that African women (at least here in America since that’s where I live) tend to excel in their work while prioritizing their domestic responsibilities. I can personally attest to the fact that my mom worked various schedules as a nurse and my dad traveled a lot, but despite that, my mom always ensured all our needs were met. We had cooked meals everyday, our assignments were done on time, she spent time helping us read, she played with us, like my mom did what any typical “stay at home mom” would do apart from homeschooling us. And since I want to be medical doctor, she told me that no matter how high climb up the ladder in my profession, never neglect the responsibility I have to my family because my family affairs are first before any job. And my dad never wanted to have a stay at home wife either (I asked because of this topic) so it honestly depends. I think as long as your home is in order and God is still being glorified in your home and marriage, then do what suits you. There’s no one size fits all to having a marriage, so there’s none for running a family either.
@steffa648

Read your Bible!! Titus 2:3-5 says women are to be keepers at home. Also, if you are married you are now your husband’s helpmeet. If you don’t have a desire to be your husband’s helpmeet and if you can glorify God being single and serving Him then do so. Our lives are not to be self centered but service to God. Women have been told lies over and over again of finding something outside the home and finding fulfillment outside of it. Gods ways are best and they are perfect!!! I can tell you as a woman who is married and has children I am so fulfilled to be at home serving my husband and children because I do it into the Lord and this is His will. Read proverbs 31. Her husband and her children rise up and call her blessed!!! What woman wouldn’t want to hear that kind of praise coming from the lips of her own husband and children? Let me tell you! You are replaceable in the workforce no matter how much they may praise you at work but you are not replaceable as a wife and a mother.

Never had the support to stay at home, and I really needed to be with my young kids. Unfortunately, I received a lot of judgment from my husband and in-laws. It's SO important to be equally yoked and on one accord with your spouse, and make the decision together. Once my kids were older and I started working a great job, I received more respect from them and could support myself. I wish I could have stayed home without feeling condemned for doing so. Thankfully, I have a really balanced life, and make time for My Savior, church, volunteering, family, and work. I strive to draw closer to Jesus/God everyday. That's the priority.

God show me as I was reading your story, the stress my husband would feel if i weren't their with him could trigger another heart attack, I'm not saying that happened to your husband, but my husband talks to no one but me, he never go out, unless it's to the doctor, he has made it quite clear he doesn't do well when I'm out all the time. And my husband also depend on me for his spiritual food. I keep God in his face by sharing with him things God is showing me, that he can see is true. I think God has been showing me it's time for me to retire, but since my husband's health wasn't good, I just wanted to work a little longer. But I think the real reason I want to go out to work is because I want more time to myself doing what I want to do. And if I loss my husband I wouldn't be able to work anymore. God is not mocked, every man will reap what he sows. We are told to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and lean not to our own understanding, in all our ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths. At the end of the day, if you are disobedient there are consequences to that and it doesn't matter what you have felt you have gained. God does not show partiality which is why He gives us all the same commands and you don't have some exemption. If you are comfortable making decisions without consulting the one you say you serve, you don't sound like a servant. You sound like you are in control and deciding what is best. He told the children of Israel not to play the harlot with themselves as they followed after their own hearts. You are no different from them thinking you can make all these decisions against God, being rebellious and yet in perfect peace. That is scary brother.

I've been a stay-at-home mom now for 22 years. My children are on their way out of our home, so the season is coming to an end. Staying home was not a easy desision to make and sometimes really hard because you get no validation from society. What is the first thing people ask you when you meet? " So, what do you do?" And if you answer "I'm at home with my kids", I've many times found, people think you're a bit dumb. Like you can't do a "real job". Anaway, looking back I feel extremely privileged, espessialy knowing there are many women out there who would love to stay at home but can't. And with my kids starting to leave my home, I have absolutely no regrets of the sacrifices we made! It was absolutely worth it.

I hope I can feel some relief from the external pressure if I'm foster parenting (not that I'm doing it to relieve pressure, it will come with lots of stress of it's own, but I hope that it's an added bonus)

We both have decent jobs and I work 40 hrs a week, but it isn’t a guarantee that I will be working from home. I’ve always had the desire to stay home with my children and homeschool them but the further along I am in my pregnancy, I see that this idea I’ve had about being a SAHM is becoming more of a fantasy and less of a reality. I’ve talked to my husband about this and I know he doesn’t say it outright but he needs my income even after this baby comes. Hon, read your Bible and pray to God. If you are a Believer, the Holy Spirit will lead you and guide you into all truths. Do not lean on any one man or woman before you have consulted your ultimate Guide. A single woman's purpose is no different than a married woman or man. We are all to serve and care for our own bodies and care for others and tend to our relationship with our Heavenly Father. In a married woman's case, she serves her family and herself and the body same thing as a husband. You just serve in a different sector and your singleness is a gift as Paul says as you can have your heart devoted to God, as all married people should as well. But often marriage is a vehicle of distraction, especially if it is a good marriage. A bad marriage can make some run to God.

If a wife is subject to her husband ( who is the head) and my husband does not complain about me working or working too much and I am functioning in the will of God, no man or woman has any right to dictate what I ought to do for my household except my husband. If the head of my household has qualms with me working then I need to address it but if he doesn’t and is okay with it and we are partnering together then I am still functioning within the confines of God. We have to consider economics nowadays if a husband is laid off or life happens ( perishes or gets in an accident) then what? we become homeless because I wanted to stay home? You should seek the face of the Lord and apply wisdoms and discernment. For some it is okay to do so but for some it is not so easy. Great talk and beautiful couple!

YES! This right here. What you do in he home is between your spouse and God. People will have a lot to say. If God tells you to work, stay home, etc. you're balanced, husband is okay with it. You're coming home at a good time, not pulling a bunch of night hours, what's the crime? I'm with you. Use God + Wisdom + Discernment. I think many Christians I've met usually don't use the last two: wisdom and discernment. My mom told me, "Some things don't need prayer. God already told you what to do. You can tell a lot about a man as you listen to his wife and watch her interaction with him. Happy to see Allen’s bride. Surprised your only married for 3’years. I just buried my bride of 27 years and praise God for her impact upon my life, home and ministry. The Lord blessed is with 5 children. Sadly, I buried her Dec. 18th. It looks like you two have a great future ahead of you. Keep up the good work Allen. Glad to see you guys are bi-vocational. We see the same for most of our marriage. I believe a Christian woman’s first priority should and must be her home. Husband first, then children. This creates true legacy and provides so many ways to Glorify the Lord. Thanks sister Parr for your transparency. You loved your job and got affirmation from it. Yet realized that affirmation should come from the Lord and your call to the home - first. At the same time, I understand the challenge for so many families to survive or live on one income. Yet, the Lord blessed this sacrifice. My wife was able to homeschool our 3 older children (age 24-26). I believe their homes and families will be eternally impacted by this sacrifice by my wife. I believe when God’s people walk by faith, based on a biblical understanding of scripture, He blesses. Sister Parr’a comments at the 18:09 mark is something every woman of God and every Christian family should understand and appreciate. When we see how much time and effort it takes to raise children that fear God, using the prescription is Deut. 4, 6 and 11, most of us don’t have enough to fight against the negative and sinful influences of the world. NOTE: Deut 6 for example: When you talk, sit, lie down or rise up… This sounds like 24/7. And can be why there is so much failure in Christian.homes. Statistics show that more than 90% of children raised in “Christian homes” walk away from the things of God, by college. Deu 6:5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. Deu 6:6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: Deu 6:7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. Thanks for this video. I pray it’s helpful to many.

Wow thank you for sharing!!! Amen.

I was very challenged by this. My mom and dad both worked ~50 hrs a week yet I never felt neglected and I was blessed with parents that loved each other and the Lord. I guess where I struggle with this video is that I feel a lot of what Jennifer shared can be said about a husband who works a corporate job. I know a mother is naturally more nurturing but why should a woman sacrifice her desire to work and provide but a husband is enabled in his pursuits? I feel like this was more geared towards making sure your identity isn’t in a job but in God and his desires in your life. I would’ve appreciated more insight on why there seems to be more initiative on the wife to be the protector of a family. I know scripture says this and I will take scripture as ultimate authority but I would appreciate to know whether there was more benefit in having Jennifer nurturing the children more than Allen and more insight on why there is more focus on the wife being the keeper of the home.

I guess it depends on each couple what works.Its just really gave the vibe that someone had to give up a dream to help another's dream.Her job could have propelled this show far bc of the connections she have. Well to each their own. They know what is best for them and who are we to say different.

Enabled in his pursuits, maybe, but yet his responsibility is immense-to provide for his family in all areas. Where he gets a reprieve a bit, is the wife taking care of the home and children while he’s out working. He can come home to love and comfort. I see God’s plan as the absolute best.

@@Mary-gc2py according to scripture, what is God’s will for a wife? That should be our main concern, regardless of what we think or feel. Titus 2 gives a clear blueprint, and can be fleshed out differently in each marriage since each marriage is unique. But that’s a good starting place.

Many Christians have unfortunate Bias against Atheist-KZbinrs, not even caring to try them. This is very sad. If you wanna be better and not live in an echo-chamber full of nothing but 'youre own people agreeing with you', then try the video 'Creationist kent Hovind Challenges Me, I Respond' from Genetically Modified Sceptic. If that video cant show you how polite and mature he is, then i dont know which can. That KZbinr has countless christian-fans and i hope you give him a Try.

@@slevinchannel7589 atheism is a lie and atheists live in fantasy land; constantly philosophizing. God is real and he loves you beyond your wildest imagination. Just believe in him. Believing in nothing/yourself doesn't make sense and it's very dangerous because none of us has all the answers. Thank you all so much! I've been wanting to meet your wife, so yay for her being able to join you! ❤ You are so right about the importance of truly knowing our identity apart from what we do. Even as a stay at home mom for 16 years, I have struggled with that at times...you seem to do do do for everyone else...and oftentimes for nothing in return! 🤪 I always check myself and question what would be my motives for having a career when those tempting thoughts creep into my mind... My answers are always for (extra) money and to get accolades/praise. Even though staying home and homeschooling your kids is the most thankless job in our culture, I've never been able to justify the unseen worth behind it compared to my selfish reasons for going back to work. Thank you both for sharing!!

Thank you so much for the testimony. When she said, that joy should come from God, I started crying as I never cried. I have always been a working wife, and mother. I had to go to the office, and at that time, I was unhappy, because I was missing everything about my kids. Then, I started working from home 100%. no more day care I said. I was happy for a few weeks, but the reality came back. I was home but busy working. Then, I took 2 weeks without working, to see how it would feel. That is when I realized what Jennifer said: I was putting my faith and basing my happiness on something else than God. Now, I still try to manage working at home (for now), and raising the kids, and homeschooling then, and taking care of my husband and my house. But for sure, we are not perfect. It is important to focus on God and be thankful for what he allows us to do each day. But I agree completely with Jennifer, guarding our home is THE JOB, THE BEST JOB. Now, I am looking forward to being a complete stay-at-home mother (no more too much computer :) ). I like something Voodie Baucham said in one preaching: even if a married woman works, she needs to make sure her job does not prevent her from doing her TRUE JOB God called her for (all those points Jennifer pointed from Titus). Of, course, same for men. their job or business should not prevent them from performing their other JOBs and responsibility that God called them to do for their family. But the society today has made marriage a toxic place, where men are not there, and women are not there. Especially, us women, it seems like we are not there anymore, where we are supposed to be.
