Yeah, John sings the HIGH NOTE on the word "Hand" every time. This was a COMMON practice with the Beatles. MANY times john would sing higher than Paul briefly and then work his way downward.

I was going to say the same thing. Beatles music is deceptive and here's why...to write a song that is so easy to listen to so you instantly love it means you have to have a great tune. To have a great tune means you have to be complex in structure but then complex doesn't sell because it had already been done before with dance hall music and classical ect..to be complex and make it sound simple is unbelievably difficult to do and the Beatles somehow could do this with ease. That is their genius and is the very reason they transformed the entire industry. Still to this day their compositions are unsurpassed!
@kirbygene7 жыл бұрын
These breakdowns are so enlightening. I never knew how many high /falsetto parts were actually John's.Conventional wisdom always said that Paul had all the higher vocals and John had all the lower. But they really moved around a lot more than most of us ever knew. Thanks for pointing this out. I always loved John's voice, but now I have a new-found respect for his vocal range.

I've always loved the Beatles. The day I bought my first guitar and began learning to play was the Monday after the Sunday when they first appeared on The Ed Sullivan show. Thanks to Galeazzo's exquisite analysis of their songs I can better understand why I and millions (maybe billions?) of other music lovers never get tired of listening to them. They weren't just clever, talented-enough guys who came along at the right time. They are musical geniuses. I especially appreciate Galeazzo's opening comment that the Beatles music can be appreciated at so many levels.

Dan Damerville Thank you Dan. I receive a lot of comments which I really enjoy. Some of the ones I enjoy the most are coming from People like you who attended the Ed Sullivan Show at the time and tells me they're sort of re-living the same emotion in a way....

The complexity buried in their simplicity. Yet its those small nuances I think that gives me the chills when I listen to some of their early songs. I know I must be hearing these variances in the harmonies but it is subtle and carries quite a punch.

The Beatles Vocal Harmony Well it was when it all began. I saw the Beatles live at Shea Stadium in 1966 (the less famous concert) and I have been glued to their hip since I was almost 12 years old (1964). I first heard them in very late December 63 and fell insane for them in January. By the time they arrived in USA I was a Beatles freak. Still am! I cannot get enough. That is why anything released, even if it is another version of a song I heard a billion times, is like gold to me. Better than gold.

The Beatles Vocal Harmony Growing up in Mexico, I remember as a kid hearing all their songs along with the Supremes on random stations. On Saturday mornings I would rush to a friends house to watch cartoons. Even there their songs came thru. The Beatles animated series. I knew nothing about who The Beatles were back then. In 1973 I was now living in the USA. A song came on the radio "Jet". Something about that song rang....but I could not put my finger on it. I asked a friend who that band was...the friend said, "He was one of the members of The Beatles. We went to his house and HE slipped a vinyl out of a black and white cover with the faces of four young men. The first song He played was 'I saw her standing there' It triggered something in me. He played the other songs and every song in the album was a time machine to my past childhood.. After that I bought every album I could find by the Beatles and I have them all including some of the rarities. What a trip that was.

As my friend Jim says.. great work Galeazzo. And I thought I was the only 'nut' that spent hours as a kid spinning the same track 10 times in a row in order to breakdown each vocal..then each instrument ! So after about 30 spins..I could REALLY hear the song as intended. HaHa.. So worth it.. they are brilliant musicians with a special chemistry. **At Mickavellian : You can bet the ranch on them just improvising on most of their harmonies.. you can see it in many outtakes / bootlegs / films .. Remember, they were singin together since their Teens.. & spent so much time together, they probably knew what each other was about to do before the other! They had built in radar..and all the great Buddy Holly / Everly Bros influences to draw from.. I never grow tired of this stuff.. Amen!

one of the great things about your videos, amigo, is that when you sing each part, it's still Galeazzo's voice! So I hear the differences in parts nice and clear, it's not a matter of distinguishing John from Paul from George (much less from the studio production work). Their individual voices are so much a part of their sound, almost always clean distinct timbre one from the other, clean sweet voice but still soulful each in their own way; and at the same time, they're all young, they're all from Liverpool, they're all more or less from the same class, the same era, listening to the same rock n' roll, and so on... so their quality as individuals is complimented -- I say sweetened -- by their quality as a unit. Also... I just dig how you love the Beatles, Galeazzo...

@ mickavellian Thank you Mick, it may have been an instinctive trigger to what John was doing. Some of those harmony by Paul especially and variations through similar parts of the song, happen in such a fraction of a second that I find it difficult to believe they agreed on them before, so the "built in radar." as GEM said i.e. an immense talent, might be the only explanation...

vecernicek2 He DOES NAIL Paul uh ? but his John or George are as good. George sings wit a liverpudlian accent (guess Paul & John , were so influenced by the American artists that they CAN pronounce in typical "American" english) But when Gale does George he puts a slight Mercy guttural vowel. You can hear this clearly in the movie "A Hard's Day Night" & George's PERFECTLY serious quotes: George: She's a drag. A well known drag. We turn the sound down on her and say rude things. George: Oh, by all means. I'd be quite prepared for that eventuality. And the clincher: George: Aye, but don't rush. None of your five-bar gate jumps and over sort of stuff.Paul: What's that supposed to mean?George: I don't know, I just thought it sounded distinguished-like.John: George Harrison, the Scouse (Scouse=Merseyside accent and closely associated with the city of Liverpool.) of distinction! George Liverpool accent is a lot stronger even in his speech, singing it also comes out loud and clear and Gale nails it.

I really like the way you break down the different vocals and instruments of Beatles songs. I was wondering if you could do a segment on the song "Anna" and "Misery?" Please let me know if it's possible. In the mean time keep those sessions coming. By the way, when we were teens we had a four piece band that played a wide range of Beatles songs. In fact we won a good number of Battle of the Bands playing such music. Now that I'm thinking about it, I played rhythm guitar on a Rickenbacher and our base player had a Beatles base guitar. What a coincidence. Bring back those good ole days! LONG LIVE ROCK AND ROLL!!!!!

Phew .....One never realizes what MAGIC (cause talent can not explain this) John & Paul delivered until signore Galeazzo deconstructs the weave . A question Galeazzo... Do YOU think that these were rehearsed written harmonies or did "The Boys" had a god given "sibling harmony" gift. Your face so lights up on that outtro & last McCartney vocal acrobatic that I "think" you suspect it was an instinctive trigger to what John was doing? One thing , being a drummer I am paying close attention to Ringo's contribution and Lord all mighty that fill right under the harmonies could very well be another voice . Such SPOT on anchor to the voices using HH , snare , high tom and floor tom in his own way Ringo is counter playing the harmony's glissando (do not know the antonym of glissando :) . Funny thing the hand clapping is a mess ! LOL Thanks again my friend I had missed you.
