About 14 yr ago a older friend said "I know you make Hiphop music and this CD is definitely is not your kind of thing but take a listen, you might find it interesting". Hands Me a random Oprah CD, and probably the most valuable CD inspiration to My Hiphop music. I have sampled that CD ever since in over 600 Hiphop beats and other styles of music even yesterday used it again, honestly a lifetimes worth of samples from just that one CD. No I wont be telling anyone else what CD it is or the Orchestra who made it, as I will approach them personally if I get a successful beats placed.

My advice specially for people outside of US (like me): try to look your local music genres. Listen to folk, traditional songs from your country, that ones your parents and grandparents use/used to listen. Every country has deep musical culture and that can connect you to your roots and open your mind (musically speaking), you're not gonna regret. Plus, you're gonna be much more "original" than if you just try to imitate everybody, trust me. Is worth trying.

I try to find samples that are obscure and abstract and alot of times I suffer from beat block when I cant find anything worth sampling or I have a hard time chopping or find a loop in the sample that I like. Sometimes familiar genres also but I prefer ambient obscure sounds that are rare or hard to find

I don't produce beats or make music, but I'm trying to get into it. I listen to rock and metal the most, how do people go about sampling it? I get how older rock is used, but what about 2000s metal and stuff?

It depends on the sound you are going for when sampling that style of music. You may have to do some EQ to remove frequencies that may clash in order to successfully sample those styles.

you wont get banned, they will either remove the song or take your royalties to pay the original copyright holders. and thats IF you get caught using a sample. just stay away from well known artists. or artists on bigger labels
