Sam Mendes is a great director, both American Beauty, Jarhead, the 2 James Bond movies, Road to Perdition, 1917, Revolutionary Road, Away We Go and currently Empire of light. The cinematography of his filmography is incredible (especially together with Roger Deakins) Great video The Beauty of

He’s a FANTASTIC director, more than just “great” entirely so.

Most of these is Deakins just cooking straight fire. It seems of the 3 major colabs he's done with directors he always ends up working with directors that gel with him really well and give him freedom to shoot a picture to his vision.

I played one of the Skinheads in Empire of Light. Sam Mendes is a very kind and down to Earth director. He had no reason to approach us and talk to us after filming. Yet he did. He is a rarity in the film making world. Both an extremely talented filmmaker and a nice person. Most key cast and crew on set either go about eyes glazed with self importance as f you don't exist or look too afraid to talk to anyone other than their PA or close associates. Though of course the majority of those that go around like you don't exist are just extremely tired and busy with a lot on their mind. It is a circus with many early and long hours after all.

Don't know where he came from, but Mendes is a pretty incredible visual director and worked with some of the best cinematographers in the business! Road to Perdition especially is underrated, I love that period at the turn of the millenium when Hanks did those great darker movies.

Incredible job, as always. The pacing of the edit, the song choice, everything is great. I wish more people commented on the video itself instead of just requesting new videos (many of which you have already done, but they’re too lazy to look for them). It’s disheartening. As for this video, some of my favorite moments of celluloid are contained therein, yet it’s astonishing to note that Sam Mendes is not necessarily amongst my favorite directors, even though he is unquestionably a great one. Perhaps it’s his successful (and otherworldly beautiful) collaborations with Deakins in particular that imprints itself into my mind, but it is a strange realization nonetheless.

Sam Mendes is one of the greatest filmmakers of our generation. He’s up there with Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese. American Beauty, Road To Perdition, Jarhead, Skyfall, and 1917 are all great classics.
