The valve on water heater on cold side shuts off the hot water now, then drain it down, as long as that valve is working right.

If that's a standard 30 amp water heater ( like most are ) Then that's the wrong size wire feeding it because that yellow romex/wire is only size 12 which is only good for 20 amps it should be a orange wire which is rated for 30 amps

Excellent video! I have a copper pipe in my basement that has needed to be replaced for some time. Watching this video has just shown me I just need a pipe cutter and a sharkbite hose, and I can totally replace it myself! Thanks for the great video fellas! Do the opposite of what they did, trust me. They removed the shut off valve (code violation) and just take the extra 10 minutes and use copper fittings. It will outlast Shark bite fitting by 30 years. Now if your a hacker then follow this nightmare.

@@EMD1028 I'm a 39yr old female with no experience, though I have done quite a few repairs around my house and have surprised myself and a few others along the way with the jobs I've tackled and completed. Lol I have no idea how to solder, so I was going to just cut the leaking part out, and get one of those Sharkbite couplings that connect copper to copper and call it a day. It's a cold water line in my basement that supplies water to the toilet. I would absolutely never remove shut off valves, I'm smart enough to know how important they are and I prefer having them. I was just looking to quick fix this leak before it gets any worse, and wanted to do it as cheaply as possibly without having to hire a pro. The reason I haven't fixed it yet is because I was under the assumption copper always had to be soldered, and I'm less than thrilled to even want to attempt that. Any tips and tricks you can give me though are greatly appreciated!!

@@A212K yea removing the shut off valve is just a terrible idea. I wasn't great with soldering either, I do all the handy things in my home. When you have time spend a few bucks on a length of copper pipe, couple fitting, torch and Flux. Flux really helps. After solder melts have a wet towel beside you and wipe around the joint. In 2-3 tries you will get it.

Take a pool noodle and slice it down one side then slip it over the beam. It will save you and the renter several headaches. You could also use insulated pipe foam.
