Yes. At Lowes they sell a 1/2” thick piece of wood that sit on the post and under the mailbox. All those small holes in mailbox is where you screw mailbox to the piece of wood.

You don't want plywood under it. It'll rot fast as hell. He's essentially got the right idea. Usually a 2x6 or 2x8 is perfect. Much stronger and it can be treated lumber so it doesn't rot. What he did, will hold up for a long time. As long as its not hit by an outside force! These guys don't have to worry about a plow truck blowing it over with massive amounts of snow. So it'll be just fine as is. He did use the screw holes on the side BTW. He didn't put any on the inside. Which I wouldn't have either.

Had issues here with people throwing bricks, bottles, rocks, etc at our mailbox here….. I decided to make one. I have 1/2 inch C channel for the base and 3/16 for the sides. I then covered it all with a silver piece of flat stock roof metal. 😉. It’s been hit several times and it’s still there. Broken glass beside it now.

I deliver packages for FedEx and my route is in a rural area so sometimes they’ll have numbers posted on their mailbox with a driveway that’s a quarter of a mile long run. We’re going down a dirt road with no no address posted at the mailbox or the driveway, but on the house it is a mess trying to deliver packages to people who don’t put their address out there so Trey I agree with you put your numbers on your house put your numbers in your mailbox make sure it’s visible from the street or from the end of your driveway

got to cut a piece of plywood the size of the bottom of the mail box. then screw the plywood real good to your post, then when you put your mailbox on it goes perfect on to your piece of plywood you cut. that's what the holes in the side of the mailbox is for. Im diggin the color
