What do you mean by heresy and how is it heretical?
@OkieAllDay4 жыл бұрын
@@josephgarrett3075 It says that God determines every action and atom in the universe. NOTHING happens outside of His will (not just that He allows it to happen, but that it happens exactly as He would want it). So every murder, rape, or blasphemy is actually God's will being accomplished - but He will still punish people for doing the very things that He wants to do. Not to mention Calvinism also shows God loving a select group of people. And only wanting the best for a certain group of people. Most Calvinists also believe Jesus only died for a limited group of people. All of these things were found nowhere in the first 300+ years of the church but it is now equated with the Gospel to many Calvinists

@@bsusie1 I haven't listened to this specific teaching of Dave's but I have others, as well as James White's response(s) to Dave Hunt claims. I appreciate your question and not being rude, I think the most frustrating part behind these conversations is how quick people go to that, and in what I've seen- the vast majority of the time it is non-Calvinists who are rude/mean/etc. to Calvinists. Before I answer though sister, I'd like to ask some questions as well. Is it possible for Calvinism to be wrong, yet not heresy? (as with many other doctrines). I ask this, because I notice that it is more often than not that non-Calvinists think that Calvinism is heresy than the other way around. This has at minimum, puzzled me, and at other times confused or been upsetting (especially when seeing much of the negative and divisive comment interactions online). Have you heard James White's responses to Dave Hunt before? I would encourage you to listen to them so as to hear both sides. I think White does a good job of addressing the claims from the other side. To answer your question- I don't think Calvinism is heresy because I believe the major doctrines of Calvinism (doctrines of Grace or TULIP) represent what the Bible teaches on the natural condition of fallen mankind, how we are saved and the nature of the work of Christ in the atonement. If you have any further questions or would like to dialogue more, I'd be glad to sister :) In Christ, JG

@@josephgarrett3075 Thank you, for your sincere, humble response. It is sad how often when we disagree that we get anger and judgement from those when our response should be in love. Now to try to respond without being too wordy😊 I spent my younger years in a Catholic orphanage, where religion and performance were forced on me. I spent years after that believing in God, but felt far from knowing His love and acceptance. I got into WOF for years, and then listened to some NAR. A few years ago, our Father in His mercy started revealing the lies I was believing. My heart cry became, Father, please reveal your truth and deliver me. As I researched I saw how pervasive the Calvinist teachers seems to be. I’ve listened to many, and am familiar with the TULIP. In the definition of heresy, yes, I would say some of it is. I found a couple of KZbin channels that helped me. One is Mike Winger, and the other is Soteriology, by Leighton Flowers. Leighton was a Calvinist for 9 or 10 years. He does an excellent presentation on the beliefs of Calvinism. I know we all read our Bible from the perspective of our beliefs. I would not say that a Calvinist or a Catholic is destined for eternal separation. I just see at this time that some of their beliefs are far from the Father that I’ve come to know. I’m committed to follow the truth as the Holy Spirit teaches me. May we both know Him as He is, and trust Him to guide us into truth. Blessing to you, my brother💕

@@SundancerrMusic Yes, but "Limited Atonement" was specifically invented to argue against those Calvinists who taught the Atonement was unlimited, like Calvin, Luther and Augustine. Here's the thing. It was invented to teach that the Atonement itself is limited, whereas non-limitarians teach that the Atonement is limited in it's application. That is not a limitation on the Atonment itself but in how it is applied. And that is the teaching of scripture. The atonement is not limited in what it can accomplish and who it is offered to. There is no limit on the atonement. But the application of the Atonement is limited to those who receive HIM, to those who believe. And there are even Calvinists who are not limitarian, including Calvin himself! So the limitarians are actually not Calvinists. You are Bezanites. And neither is the last response "Agape." It's instructive that a number of Calvinists have written on the problem of harsh talk when confronting someone. As another Calvinist wrote: "The stereotype of the mean Calvinist exists for a reason. There’s a reason, after all, that clichés become clichés. If you spend any time in evangelical social media or have a more traveled experience in evangelical churches, you’ve been on the receiving end of a mean Calvinist before. If you’re like me, you’ve wondered at some point, “Why do those who subscribe to the doctrines of grace frequently seem so graceless? Is there something in particular about Calvinism that makes people mean?” "To that latter question, many have said yes. They do believe the essential tenets of Reformed theology lend themselves to coldness and harshness. I don’t think that’s true. And of course you may say that’s because I’m a Calvinist! And I am, so you may be right."

@@bellohond Why do you attach the label Arminian to me? (By implication.) I know nothing about Arminianism. But I know that Calvinism is a dangerous deception. I was born again, saved in the most marvellous way, delivered from the shackles of a Sabbatarian cult. Then Calvinism came along and tried to get me into its clutches. It was only by the grace of God that I was saved from falling into its deadly depths. Once the Baptists resisted Calvinism, knowing how dangerous it was. But the Calvinists have infiltrated into Baptist circles and created a monstrosity called Reformed Baptist. Reformed theology is good for the stress it lays on Justification by Faith. But it is not the entire Gospel. It is also a dangerous cul-de-sac. We must learn to live by the Bible, living by every word and promise of God. The fruit of the Spirit is Christlikeness, and Christlikeness is seen in meekness and love. Calvinists tend to be intellectual, soulish and argumentative. They are not spiritual, they are certainly lacking in both humility and love. And they have no burden for perishing souls. I truly feel sorry for you, BH. Because you are brainwashed by Calvinism and your heart needs the enlargement of divine love. Do not worship Calvin or his mentor Augustine. Neither worship Luther (who had a mindless hatred towards the Anabaptists). God did use Luther, He used Wycliffe, He used Huss, He used the Baptists, He used the Brethren, He used many great missionaries. But I can tell you this one thing: I find no evidence that God used Calvin, the tyrannical dictator of Geneva. TULIP is an enticing Gnostic philosophy from the pit of hell.

I never heard of Calvinism until we joined a Grace Baptist church in England . I just knew as an ex Catholic I loved Jesus and the Bible. Then one Sunday a man came to tell us about Tulip. Eh? What? Sounds like i would need to waste a lot of time trying to see if it was true, when I was so happy because I knew I had already found the truth. I loved that church so much and cried for days when we had to leave it over a stupid incident. That incident happened on a country walk in aid of the Bible Society. I went with our then 15 year old daughter, along with several other church members and people from other churches. We were enjoying the walk when a man joined and began walking with our daughter and a lady from church. They got into conversation about Catholicism and our daughter and the lady started pointing out some of the errors. The man got offended and complained about them to one of our elders, who went to our daughter and told her to just talk about the weather. I met her at the end of the walk and found her in tears. We were all handed a Bible Society booklet to remember the walk and on the cover was a picture of the Pope. We later learned that the offended man was a Catholic priest. He could not hold his own in a discussion with a 15 year old true believer. At home my husband was so angry he fired off a letter to our church . We went one last time at my insistence so I could say goodbye to a lady I had come to love. I never got the chance since the wife of the elder came up to us at the end of the service and said they all thought we were subversive! I was crying so much we just went home. We loved the pastor and he came to see us and tried to patch things up, but it was too late. Calvinism? You can keep it. I will not attach any name of any man to my glorious Lord Jesus. Later we learned that the church denied the 1000 year Millennium, so we would have had to leave 💔 anyway.

Both the Calvinists and the Arminians say that they have the CLEAR teaching of Scripture on their respective systems of theology. What is a person to do or believe and be sure that he/she is saved? The Cane Ridge Revival of 1801 sought to rid the Church of " theology " and the Christian Church began. They sought to take the Bible literally. It was not to be another denomination but became one. The early 19th Century preacher Lorenzo Dow started the saying " Damned if you do and damned if you don't." He was mocking the conflicting teachings of the Calvinists by saying: " You can and you can't, you shall and you shant, you will and you won't. You will be damned if you do and you will be damned if you don't."

John 15:1-17 1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. -2 Every branch "in me" that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every [branch] that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. 3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

However, the sheep of Israel have gone astray. If you have ever had a herd and known sheep, the do have a tendency to wander, doesn't mean they are lost. They're just out looking for different fodder, and some that will make their tummy's sick. But the Shepherd knows where they are, being the Good Shepherd and will bring them back in. ie to be graffed back into the tree. On essentials we must have unity on non essentials liberty and in all things love. One big problem I have with the reformed Baptist church which I used to attend was how they spiritualize the Jews return to their homeland. We are supposed to test all things in light of scripture. I disagree with Dave on predestination because the dead man isn't drowning reaching for the life preserver but is at the bottom of the ocean stone cold dead and it take God the Holy Spirit to dive to the bottom of the ocean and breath new life spiritually speaking into that dead corpse! Most of the great preacher's would admit that no man had everything exactly right but when it comes to essentials we better!

There is a verse that says Jesus was praying for all of us. And salvation is for "whosoever" not only certain ones. It is a gift for all. Whosoever recieves it. That's the key right there... And concerning Judas, it's not recorded that he didn't pray for him so we can probably assume he did as his will for all of us is to turn to him. I got that logic from Dave, who said that just because something isn't recorded, doesn't mean it wasn't done, but because it was something the Lord has said he would do other places, we can know it is still true because he said it.

If Judas was "lost," was he found--or was Jesus confused? Doesn't matter that Jesus KNEW who would betray Him. "For God so loved the world" Not the world of the "Elect", but the entire world. The plan of salvation is "by Grace + Faith = salvation as in "By grace are ye saved thru faith not by works less any man boast". Faith by shear definition is a volitional verb and all you Calvinist and your spiritual elitist AKA "The Elect" need to stop the nonsensical talking points like God raising certain evil people in the Bible to be damned with no hope of Salvation. To that I say, read the accounts of Nebuchadnezzar in the last day of his life as in the book of Daniel. A misconstruction of doctrine out of mans finite ignorance that could not start to understand Gods infinite knowledge. Totally Omnipotent. Our little brains will never grasp that. so we make our little Calvinist (false) doctrine that fits in to our comfort zone even at the expense of promoting "spiritual elitism".

Calvin taught God fates some to sin... because He doesn't like them.. essentially a spiritual 'might makes right.' But Scripture depicts our Savior as Using sin, as in Romans 8:28, for His glory but not Causing it. He tells us to come and reason with Him... to even pluck or chop... to avoid it. He orders us to 'compel' the lost to come into the Kingdom... because He loves them! It is we and the god in this world (our first father) that causes our pride and lust.

The devil loves to reverse God's order, and mix in a little truth. To hide a lot of lies or a big lie. He plays in man's self perceived intellect and pride, and willingness to say I am or have something's others don't or can't have, I am respected of God and you are not. He chose my salvation before he created anything, making God a respecter or mankind. He did not shed his son's blood for everyone most are predestined for hell and CANNOT accept Jesus no matter what. And then one lie beats another and another and you have Calvinism and man's total inability to believe in Jesus Christ, unless God forces you too against your will. Beware of TULIP and Calvinism. It is the opposite of the gospel of the Bible.

"We are all lost, until we are saved, by virtue of the fall of man"---no, by our own sin. Adam didn't make us lost. Try reading the parable of the prodigal child---who was lost, and then found AGAIN.--Jesus' words. It means the prodigal child was saved, died in sin, and came back to life AGAIN. Again refutes you. The order is not wrong, we become lost when we sin. We all like sheep -have gone- astray. Try reading Ezekiel 18 also, all of it. Thanks for the calm discussion... I appreciate it

One question I always ask a Calvinist. " If God chooses some people for Hell and some for Heaven then isn't it possible for you to be actually called to burn and not go to Heaven?" We do good works because we are saved not to get saved. Calvinist have a mind set of never knowing for sure that they're saved so they have to say, " look at my good works I must be saved " mentality. Trying to out way the bad with the good. Ask this question for yourself and then you'll see that you have a choice to serve or not everyday. Be blessed

I don't need a popular teacher to understand the Scripture---I look at it, and simple logic declares this. Tell me friend, if you have a gold coin, and you lose it---was it once yours? If you're on the back of a truck, and you fall away from the truck--it logically implies you MUST be on the truck. Judas "FELL"--logic follows he at one point STOOD. Jesus called Judas a "friend." and Jesus does not lie. Calvin was an unrepentant murderer at heart, I hope you don't think like him.
@droptozro12 жыл бұрын
That's not usually my experience.... besides the fact that it's not a strong argument, I find it's pretty even both ways for the most part. Most Calvinists I run into are not humble, but bent on twisting Scriptures to out of context to support their positions, there are many who are proud... then there are the few who humbly disagree or at least reason it out. study the ante-Nicene church, Calvinism got its roots from gnosticism, it's blatantly clear from the earliest church writings.

They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that does good, no, not one." If you or anyone else has ever sought after God and chosen God yourself then God's word is in error! IT IS NOT! Forget the straw! Pride is still the issue here.

Actually, following Gutenberg's development of movable type, the way was opened for Bibles being more readily available in the 1500s during the Reformation. The first full German Bible was the Biblia Germanica, printed at Strasbourg in 1466. And, the publication of Luther’s September Testament came in1522 along with seventeen other German Bibles produced. The Erasmus Bible came one year before the beginning of the Reformation. In fact, the Reformation in Europe notably led to translations of the Bible into the people’s common languages so that ordinary people, not just clergymen, could read and understand it. Further, with the invention of the printing press by Johannes Gutenberg in Germany around 1440 just prior to the Reformation, Bibles could be affordably mass printed. It has been pointed out that "John Wycliffe, known as the “morning star of the Reformation,” wrote the first English translation of the Bible in 1384. Following Wycliffe and influenced by reformer Martin Luther who translated the Bible into German, William Tyndale wrote the first modern English translation of the New Testament in 1526. Tyndale was executed for doing so, but his work remained. Drawing from the work of Tyndale and Luther, Miles Coverdale produced the first modern English version of the full Bible in 1539, called the Great Bible, authorized by Henry VIII of England." Consequently the Arminians and Calvinists both based their positions on the Scriptures, although individuals such as Luther or Calvin brought some "traditions" from their time in Catholicism that influenced their conclusions. It was certainly a process.
