I REMEMBER THIS HURRICANE. I WAS A BOY 13 YEARS OLD. THE MESSAGE TO THE PEOPLE WAS TO STAY INDOORS. BUT PEOPLE WERE STILL OUT TRYING TO GET TO OTHERS. I REMEMBER THIS GUY'S HEAD BEING REMOVED BY A SHEET OF FLYING GALVANIZE. THANKS FOR SHARING THIS VIDEO AFTER ALL THESE YEARS;

Poignant. I was born five weeks later. Mummy decided not to name me Janet as she had thought.

Thanks to you BGIS and to the several first-person contributors.My Uncle, , Herbert ( "Storky") Webster, then lied at "Evanmar" Maxwell Coast rd, where he and his friend Mr. Reece were the only two Bajans practising any sort of meteorological science- as amateurs- there being no B'dos Met Office at the time. They had noticed the "falling glass" ( the barometric pressure falling rapidly); also, the peculiar arrangements of the lower cloud formations, and the wind direction shifting to the East. by these indications, they knew it was going to pass south of the island. Being of one mind, they then notified the authorities ( I cannot recall if this was either the governor, or the police) that we were facing the imminent arrival of a hurricane. At some time thereafter, the population was then notified via B'dos Radio-Diffusion (Reddifusion) but it was night-time and perhaps only those who customarily left their sets on at volume...heard Ozzie Hill take the mike to give Bajans a bit of very bad news.TW
