As a Catholic who has listened to the reading every Sunday throughout my life and as a person who has tried to read through the Bible many times not very successfully I find this podcast and Fr. Mike's explanation very inspiring and clarifying many sections I couldn't understand earlier when I tried to read on my own. Thank you Fr. I’m catching up, and day 209 was on 7/28/24 and that day was my 66th birthday - and today was just so special because Isaiah chapter 40 is sung in Handel’s Messiah, a beautiful musical oratorio that I have sung many times with different choruses in my life- “Comfort ye, my people” and “He Shall Feed His Flock” were two of my favorites as well as . Praying for you all and for you Fr Mike and the staff of Ascension press and everyone here on the BIY 😊🙏🎶❤️ If you get a chance, listen to Handel’s Messiah a piece he composed in 24 days only by the grace of God.

In 1981 to went see 'Chariots of Fire' at a local theater. I was quite young at that time and did not truly understand the impact of the story. After your explanation, Father, I am going to watch it again. I really love how you explain the Bible, you bring it all together and make it easier to understand. Without Bible in a Year I would be completely lost!!

This was really cool because I made the cover to my bible, and I love the bible covers that have the icon of Christ in the middle and icons of the four Gospel writers in the four corners depicted at each of the creatures in Ezekiel chaper one. So it was cool to get a fuller explanation of this image on the cover of my bible.

Lord Jesus, I humbly pray for myself, Father Mike, & all the people participating in the Bible-in-Year podcast. May your word take deep root in our hearts & transform our ways of thinking, discerning, and acting. May your grace open our ears to hear & understand, revere & treasure both the Old & the New Testaments which God has prepared for all who desire to enter his kingdom. Send us your Holy Spirit to give us the Spirit of Knowledge, that we may know God and know ourselves. Give us the grace to approach the Word of God with meekness & humility, & with an eagerness to do everything God desires. Help us to be diligent students & faithful disciples of your Word. May our hearts never grow dull & may our ears never tire of listening to your voice. Amen.

Learned a lot about God and the Bible! *_Love the connection between Isaiah Ch. 40 and “Chariots of Fire” movie about Eric Liddell who ran 400 meter dash / yards . GOD gives strength to those who faint and who wait on Him. Youth doesn't guarantee strength but God does. *_ An important reminder that oftentimes, God changes our life when we are about to begin something. Like how Ezekiel was exiled and taken away from God's place of worship to a place where there was no physical evidence of God but God was always with him. *_ I loved knowing that Matthew stands for Man (mentioning the genealogy of Man from Adam to Jesus), Mark stands for lion (declaring Jesus as the Lion of Judah), Luke is an ox (talks about sacrifices and rites, the priestly nature of Jesus), John is an eagle (high and lofty beginning of the Gospel). Thank you, Fr. Mike and Team Ascension! God bless you and the fellow listeners

Father Mike explains truths so beautifully. I also like the Level 2 Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program which goes over the Prophecy of the Valley and Mountains, Isaiah 40. We ponder what the obstacles or mountains I have placed in my way to Jesus are. Maybe it is obstacles that we place in our way so that we can’t be near God and we have to smooth out way so that we can help others prepare. We also ponder the ending of the prophecy that sounds like Parousia and what that will be like.

The beginning of Ezekiel, where God goes into exile with his people, reminded me of this news story: "The judge knew that Sgt. Joseph Serna had been through a lot. The former Special Forces soldier did four combat tours in Afghanistan over a nearly two-decades-long career with the U.S. Army. Through those years, the Fayetteville Observer reported, Serna was almost killed three times: once, by a roadside bomb, then again by a suicide bomber. During a tour in 2008, Serna and three other soldiers were driving down a narrow dirt road in Kandahar when their armored truck toppled into a canal, the Associated Press reported. As water filled the vehicle, Serna struggled to escape. It was his fellow soldier, Sgt. James Treber, who saved him. “I felt a hand come down and unfasten my seat belt and release my body armor,” Serna recalled to the AP. “Sgt. Treber picked me up and moved me to a small pocket of air. He knew there was not enough room for both of us to breathe so he went under water to find another pocket of air.” Treber died from the accident, but Serna survived. He was the only one who did. While Serna’s years in combat earned him three Purple Hearts and other military accolades, like many combat vets, he’s been unable to leave the battlefield behind him. Since returning to the U.S., the decorated Green Beret has suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder, WTVD reported, and been charged with driving under the influence. He entered the veteran’s treatment court program in Cumberland County, N.C., over which state District Court Judge Lou Olivera presides. Serna has fought to stay sober, appearing before Olivera 25 times to have his progress reviewed. He confessed to Olivera that he lied about a recent urine test last week, according to WRAL. In response, Olivera sentenced Serna to one day in jail. The judge drove Serna to the jail in a neighboring county. “When Joe first came to turn himself in, he was trembling,” Olivera told the Fayetteville Observer. “I decided that I’d spend the night serving with him.” “Where are we going, judge?” Serna asked, the Observer’s Bill Kirby Jr., reported Wednesday. “We’re going to turn ourselves in,” the judge said. As Serna sat down on the cot in his cell, WRAL reported, he heard the door rattle open again and saw Olivera standing before him. Olivera sat down beside him. Someone came and locked the door. “This was a one-man cell so we sat on the bunk and I said, ‘You are here for the entire time with me?'” Serna told WTVD. “He said, ‘Yeah that’s what I am doing.'” A Gulf War veteran himself, Olivera was concerned that leaving Serna in isolation for a night would trigger his PTSD. The two passed the time trading stories of their experiences in the military. Serna told WRAL: “It was more of a father-son conversation. It was personal.” “They have worn the uniform and we know they can be contributing members of society,” Olivera said. “We just want to get them back there.” The incident, which occurred April 13, was reported Thursday in the Observer under the headline: “Judge’s unbelievable compassion for a veteran.”

It was the one who sits on his throne , above the earth and beyond the sky . 40 : 27 - Israel, why do you complain that the Lord doesn't know your troubles , or care if you suffer injustice ? 40 : 28 - Don't you know ? Haven' t you heard ? The Lord is the Everlasting God ; he created all the world . He never grows tired or weary . No one understands his thoughts . 40 : 29 - He strengthens those who are weak and tired . 40 : 31 - Those who trust in the Lord for help will find their strength renewed .
