My 30 year old son died almost 9 years ago, in 2015, from an unexpected brain bleed. The neurosurgeon was in contact with me during our drive to NYC from SE CT. He told me they were going to open his skull to relieve pressure. I told them to get the hospital's Priest to give him the final blessing before doing that surgery. While waiting for the Priest, they performed an angiography, which showed the reason for the bleed and had i not asked for the Priest, and they had opened my son's skull up he would have bled to death before we arrived. The Priest came up to our son's room to meet us. He told us that he had given Grant the Apostolic Pardon. I was beyond happy to hear this. I told Father that this was the greatest gift he could ever give to a Mother. 🙏 I will miss my son until the day I die. My one consolation is that I know where he is. God bless you Fr. Mike! I listen to you on Hallow.

I woke a Sunday morning w/a voicemail from the gf of my good friend saying he's in the hospital & this is it. The Holy Spirit had been overseeing this probably since we met 5? -years prior & became instant friends; It's terribly hard to find a priest on a Sunday morning. I drove a cab and became a non-parish priest's cabbie. I called and he said yes-how soon will u be here. Drove the 25 minutes crosstown. He gave my comatose buddy last rites. Took him home & my ex-gf called as I was walking him to the door saying Terry's gone. I cried and hugged and thanked the elderly priest. I was sooooooo thankful!

I relate so much to Fr Mike’s journey. I rejected my cradle faith in college and I was really prideful and quite horrible about it. I actively chastised other people about their Catholic faith. Including my beautiful mother. I was boiling with anger over abuse scandals in the church but also pro abortion, contraception, little regard for marriage. No more mass, even at Christmas. I denied the existence of God. Then I started dabbling with buddhism, hinduism, hare krishna stuff. Followed by protestantism. One day, boom, God brought me back to my true faith and I’ve never looked back. I’m so grateful that he never forgot me when I was lost and confused.

My Dad Henry F Keller Jr died a year and a half ago. He was a lifelong Catholic who raised 6 children well in the Catholic Church. A week before he died at 97 years old, he was having horrible dreams. Our local Parish priest came and heard his Confession, after many years, and gave him the final Sacraments. He died very peacefully a week later. Our gracious Lord had great Mercy upon his soul at the end of a well lived life!

I spent ten years away from the church, I didn’t even realize I had strayed from my faith. But I wanted to change my life, I want to have a relationship with God, I want to be a better person on earth and be with God in heaven when my time here is up. I went to confession last Saturday, and it felt amazing to be absolved of my sins. I went to Sunday mass the next day at 8 am, and I was fighting the tears feeling so grateful to be back home 🤍 Amazingly, my friends and family are also supportive of my choice, which is such a blessing for me. Listening to the Bible in a Year podcast every morning has helped me spend time with God every day as well, and to understand my faith better. I pray for anyone who feels like they’ve grown distant from God. May you build a strong relationship with God. Be blessed 🤍 amén.

Great interview! Love Fr Mike. It's so true you can be Catholic but may have never encountered Christ. I was born a Catholic and only encountered Christ a few years ago. I realized something very important when tears were just streaming down my face and it was as if something was clutching and squeezing my heart, during the reenactment of the Stations of the Cross on Good Friday. I asked myself, why am I crying now when I've witnessed this so many times before? And the answer that came to me was "It's because I KNOW this man". This man who they are spitting on, abusing, murdering, nailing to the cross, was not a stranger anymore, He was/is and ever shall be, real, alive, present and active in a relationship with me. I searched for treasure, wanted to win lotto and get rich all my life, while the real treasure was in front of me all along. I was so stupid and blind. Then my whole life changed. I praise and thank God and the Holy Spirit for giving me this moment of enlightenment. Amen.

I like that part about being a Christian is having an encounter with a person. My first encounter with the Lord is two fold. First it was when I went to the mass for the first time. I saw the Eucharist being elevated and it was all I could do to keep myself from just sobbing. Then a few weeks after that I was sitting there listening to Father’s homily. I remember looking up at the crucifix and I felt like I was there on Calvary. I thought to myself “Lord, I don’t deserve to be here. I don’t deserve Your love. I’m the worst of sinners. I’m not better than Adam or Cain or even Judas.” And I remember the Lord said to me “My son, I loved Adam and Cain and even Judas, and I love you as well. For I have called you and you are mine.”

Those unimaginably blessed moments of grace! To be remembered, cherished, and shared with others (who may label you as crazy)! But Our God, Father, Brother, Advocate DOES speak to us in moments he knows our souls need a special touch. What Dad doesn't talk to the child he loves? What brother does not converse with his brother? What lawyer does not speak to the defendant especially one he loves? Our God is all this and more. So often we are too distracted and busy to listen. But in quiet times He can get through! In my whirlwind younger years God waited till I was in Adoration or in the shower!

Fr. Mike, the way you described your mom's passing hit me so hard in my heart. My mom died April 8, 2021 to pancreatic cancer, but she only had 3 months since we found out. From December 27th 2020 through April 8th 2021 felt like the longest yet fastest time in my life. She was blessed to have passed away at home, with all of her 5 kids around her, all 4 of her siblings, and all her grandchildren, her neices and nephews while we all prayed. Our was entire day of prayers. Two priests came that we are very close with from the two parishes she would visit daily, she had her anointing, we said the Luminous Mystery of the Rosary, the Divine Mercy Chaplet, the prayer to St. Joseph for a happy death, the prayer we always knew as "the prayer of the pope" which is called "Three Beautiful Prayers", the Ave Maris Stella, you name it, we prayed it. I had a reckoning that day. She was going to meet my dad, and Our Lord. Thank you for sharing your story. I heard the pain there ❤. My heart felt it.

I think some of that natural and early-founded grace from Fr. Tony was transferred to Fr. Mike so he would be able to do what he does now with such strength and humility. I’m watching this at 2 o’clock in the morning. I am up at the stupid hour. Because I am sick. In about eight hours. No now it’s six hours. I will be going to find out exactly what kind of cancer I have. Prepping for this event is not for the faint of heart. I haven’t had anything to eat in over three days. I spent a considerable amount of time in prayer. I receive the sacrament of the prayers for the sick. Had my most favorite priest in the whole world pray over me, I am anxious, overwhelmed and scared. But I know that the Lord is with me I know that Jesus is with me my best friend and sister-in-law is responsible for getting me almost an hour, away from home to go and get the testing and possible surgery done. I was glad I got to hear this morning. Although it is a little earlier than usual are usually start my day with you and I end my day with you I think my prayer streak on hallow is 114 days which may not seem like a heck of a lot excepted, but I came back to the Catholic Church after 50 years of being a lapsed catholic. I’m doing the Bible in a year I believe I’m on day 205. Yes I’ve been overachiever. I love to read anyway and I am listening to you as I follow along in my great adventure, Bible, and have learned so much. I thought I knew a lot. I’m an intelligent woman there were times in my life where I excelled at things that are usually things that men do but all of that doesn’t matter anymore. I can’t change the situation I can pray for a good outcome, I can pray and do for my dear sister-in-law, Julie, my mom is 86 and blind, my sister Lisa, and her husband, David, who take such outstanding care of our mother. They have sacrificed the last 10 years of their life taking care of mom. Yes, I have pinch hitter once or twice a year for just a week or two of the time. Mom doesn’t want me to take care of her. She wants Lisa and that’s a good thing. I pray for you to slow down so you don’t burn yourself out as much as I adore, you are ministry and I got a mass twice on Sunday won the 1015 at my church and then before the day is done I’ve listened to the mass, the one you’ve said for the day. We have a very young new like 18 months, assistant pastor, and he is the best and I kinda hope he grows up to be like you all thou we’ve never had that conversation and I don’t think we have a will.

@@gabriellejosef-marie2980 update it’s September 2. It’s been a long haul. I have Castleman‘s disease which is a disease where the lymph nodes go crazy and grow and grow and grow and grow and the more they grow the more they are destined to become cancerous. I have multiple masses throughout my body, so I’ve been taken care of now. Some are going to be taken care of later. There are other issues that we found along the way, but I am hanging in there and I came back to listen to this again and saw the comments and I wanted to take a moment to say thank you to all three of you and how wonderful it was to receive your blessings. I’m doing the absolute best I can, I’m in the middle of the catechism and started reading the biography on St. John Paul the second which I swear is as big as the Bible. Thank you for keeping in your prayers and allow me to return the favor.🙏🙏🙏🙏

So beautiful. Oh Father Mike my heart hurts to hear you speak of your beautiful Mom. My dad passed away from pancreatic cancer as well and I know what you and your family have been through. Your Mom was so very blessed to have you present not only as her son but as her Priest. My heart goes out your you all especially your Dad. My mom to has had to walk this road and it’s been so very difficult for her. She just wants my dad back. Very sad. Thank you Father for your love of Christ and your Priesthood. You have taught me so much My husband and I love your Masses and homilies. You have no idea the blessing you’ve been to us and my church group and so many around the world. God knew what He was doing when He called you to the Priesthood. You are in our daily prayers. I pray to meet you in person one day. Oh my, what a powerful interview. Both men lost their mothers. Today, I just happened upon a sweet older lady in Goodwill who was anxious to show me some bird figurines she had found. Then she opened up to tell me she was sad because her mother had died a couple weeks ago and now she felt alone and sad. I told her I felt sad too because I lost my mother three years ago-and am alone. God’s consolations come to us in such creative and mysterious ways. May all these mothers rest in eternal peace, and may those left behind be at peace.

@@theyliveyousleep8965 well, I did see her a few weeks afterward. She was still looking for her pretties. She had given away the birds she had gotten as Christmas gifts. I do hope those who received them hold them dear and don’t cast them aside. Aside from her innate good taste, I saw something special in her. I cannot quite put my finger on it. She may have some mental health issues, which make her all the more endearing.

Thank you also for the podcasts you share. I am currently going through the Bible in a Year with my husband, who is not Catholic but attends church with me every week. It is a wonderful experience for both of us.

As a mom thank you for encouraging me and supporting me as I pray for my kids and my family. Fr. Peffley preached one Sunday, “you want to get your kids and spouse to heaven? Pray the Rosary everyday for them and have faith.” And so I can recognize with Fr. Mike’s mom, a fellow prayer warrior mom.❤️Thank you for sharing such a powerful, humble, completely relatable and normal story Father-I saw myself in a lot of those stories. It was humbling and so full of love. God love ya and continue to guide you on this awesome journey of life.

I'm not Catholic, was raised Presbyterian, I don't attend church...ever (long story) but every day I sit down with Father Schmidtz and listen to his Bible in a Year podcast. I'm 145 days in and for the first time THE...BIBLE...MAKES...SENSE. It's not at all what I thought it was--which is probably why it suddenly make sense. I have found so much within the pages that I did not know was there, and so much I expected to find is missing. Of Fr Schmitz I would say "the spirit of God is strong within this one."

Oh dear heaven how I absolutely lost it at that point. My husband's 2nd Anniversary of his death was December 1st and it does hurt. Oh gosh, I was so fine until I heard Fr. I live in the diocese where SOLT is headquartered, and I grew up around the community. Its really bizarre hearing the names of people I know in this interview, lol. My sister in law and my brother have both worked as missionaries in Benque, and i went to college with a guy who had attended the Mt. Carmel high school there (his parents were missionaries). Fr. John came back to headquarters once he retired, which he did when he was too old and sick to serve anymore. Very sweet, joyful man, always said something kind to me when he saw me. In another weird twist of fate, the Catholic college I attended in Oklahoma had a previous life as a Catholic boys' high school...that Fr. John had graduated from.

At 3:21, the timestamp you mention praying, inviting Jesus into your life, is Catholic, not just a protestant thing. I've struggled with this. Not realizing or believing it really is, that simple. Thank you. I follow you both, and you both have taught me so much. Fr Mike, when you spoke about your journey with the church of opposing some of their teachings. I really identified with that. I've been asking questions for years never really got a great answer on until today. I also say Catholics are at different levels in our faith journey. Some rules we struggle with are the ones we haven't had answered yet, or our eyes have not been opened to the truth. Today, God showed me the answer and gave me the words to help pass the teaching on to others. ❤ God Bless you both!

Fr Mike you are such a gift to the laity, and I am sure other consecrated people as well. What you've done to touch the hearts of so many thousands is truly... well, I don't have the words. My yes to the Bible in a year and now the catechism were a direct result of your yes. The fruits that these yesses have produced are changing the world and unless the Lord returns in His glory, these fruits will continue to bear for generations. I am a changed person through your ministries. I can only imagine the spiritual warfare you encounter. I am sure Satan wants to take you down more than most of us. The way you exude joy through it all is just so inspiring. I don't know how you even find the time to do all you do, much less the will. I am grateful to you. I'm praying for you. Keep the faith and keep fighting the good fight. May God's grace abound in you.

I have had the privilege to know a few priests over the years and there have been two or three who have been labeled (in good humor) by some as always being late for one thing or another. These were the priests who stayed late in the confessional, visited longer at the hospital, consoled family members over the loss of their loved ones. It took as long as it took. They were truly the shepherds of their flock. They always were ready to seek out the one. We need good, holy priests like these saints. I hope when its my time to die that if there is no priest at my bedside its because they are selflessly tending to another sheep who needs them.

Although the thought of having Fr. Mike as Pope, the reality is we need priests like Fr. Mike in the community. Look at Pope Francis, he has to deal with some American Catholics going after him. Unfortunately our Pope is too busy warding off all of the attacks ;I am pretty sure he [Pope Francis] would much rather be administering to the community. I would hate for Fr. Mike to be attacked in the way our Pope is being treated.
