Oh you are making me well up again, yes we need to fight to keep ourselves on track, it is so easy to take our eyes off God, anyway now for a bit of frivolity, well it is the silly season! On the bus the other day when it was dark and cold (now when I say cold I am British so I mean -5, chicken feed to some hardy souls on here) anyway Covid means sometimes the windows are open, it is like travelling in a mobile igloo. I decided to take my mind off the cold and write a verse or two, so here we go. ONCE IN NOT SO ROYAL MINNESOTA CITY. Once in Minnesota City, Stood a priest called Father MIke, He is tasked to read the bible Every word he will recite, Listeners pay attention please, Because this goes at mighty speed. He talks on 'bout earth and heaven, Who is God and Lord of all, He is someone who is able, To articulate and call Us dear friends the meek and lowly, Tis our want to be more holy. With our eyes we may not see him, But the voice we know and love, For this priest so dear and gentle, Calmly gives our faith a shove ! And he leads the faithful on, To deeper love for Gods own son. This passage in Timothy about taking care of family truly hits home for me. My grandpa and dad always took care of me, their love was unconditional. But in 2011, they both died and I was blessed to survive a brain stem stroke. However, everyone in the family was in shock and refused to help when I couldn’t work and pay my bills. I was homeless while waiting for disability income! The biggest trial of my life, I thought I’d lose my mind. Only Jesus brought me through. Loving money really is the root of all evil. Turns out my uncle was jealous of me because his dad, my grandpa, told me he loved me. Jealousy is sinful too. God bless all who’ve been hurt by someone who loves money and not God. It happens at all ages and stages.

My father left my mother with 4 young kids. He had so much money, so rich, and thus, had so many women. My mother worked 20 hours a day to put food on the table, to send us to school, to put clothes on our backs. We hardly saw her; she was always working. Us kids, we looked after each other while she worked. It was the perfect storm. We grew closer to God, and stronger as individuals. My father passed away this year, broke with no friends or family. The 4 of us buried him and paid for everything. At his funeral, I couldn’t even cry. 3 months after his passing, I felt so sad thinking about the life he led, how he died alone, broke and old. The 4 of us forgave him. I’m not angry, just disappointed I guess. He didn’t do his duty. “Lord, have mercy on my father’s soul, forgive him his sins, and bring him to everlasting life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.” Thank you Fr Mike, thank you for teaching me to forgive, and to LOVE as Jesus did. God bless you. Always..

@@roknrone I have to confess I had to look up Stevie Ray Vaughn, I am coming to your party! I knew the name, but I love that blues sound. I had a hard time coming up with names actually, I like jazz Ella Fitzgerald, Eric Clapton, Eagles, my dad was a big music fan, Gershwin etc, however I have a brother who was into heavy metal and Hendrix, so had lots of influences. Never going to get to meet Fr Mike, but he has cast new light on the Catholic faith for me and has certainly given me lots to think about. He really is a good advert if you like for the faith, and funny that helps!

With a tear in my eye I write this, your passion for God is so moving, trying to get the ' good news' across is hard, sometimes, at work I hear " I just don't feel Christmassy" and that is because there is a God shaped hole in their lives, however today I was so touched by a nurse who is one of six nurses who came over from India during the pandemic ( they have left behind in some cases husbands and children ) this particular nurse bought a present and card for all the staff on the ward and Admin office. On each card she had written bible verses, and the love Jesus has for us. I was blown away by this as I don't really know her, it touched a lot of hearts on that ward today. Her witness was heart warming. This weary world must know that Gods gift to us is priceless.

December 25, 2023 Please, do you have just a moment in time to pray for Souls in Purgatory with me? According to tradition, St. Gertrude the Great, was told by Our Lord that each time she piously recited the following prayer, it would release 1,000 souls (or a vast number) from their suffering in purgatory: Eternal Father, I offer You the most precious blood of thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal Church, for those in my own home, and in my family. Amen. In her account of another vision, St. Faustina describes Purgatory as a "great crowd of suffering souls" undergoing purification. Further, she says that the souls are "praying fervently, but to no avail, for themselves; only we can come to their aid" (Diary, 20)

Father Mike, that was so powerful and convicting. Yes, I too fell on that trap. When things got better in my life, I became cold and distant from the Lord. It took me 10 years to decide to come back to the Lord. I felt remorseful over it and that's when I went back to the Lord God. Thirty years later, I am still walking with the Lord.
