I find this very confronting. I now realize after a lifetime of being a Christian that I don’t fully understand or appreciate the gifts of baptism. It’s good that a blind spot is illuminated. Once asked our former Episcopal Minister how she could justify condoning homosexuality using the Bible. Of course she couldn't but after the 3rd request, she countered with; "well, even Jesus sinned". When asked how, she pointed out Luke 6 and harvesting grain on the Sabbath. A full fledged episcopal woman minister told me this. I am enrolled in RCIA now. Thank you Father Mike.

Jesus did so much for so many and today we hear He did so for John the Baptist to keep him believing in Him though he was in prison. Disbelief comes to most men in prison because they hope to be released especially when they had done nothing only politically locked behind bars. It is there we often wonder about the people who we embraced but have turned on us. It is the most helpless feeling of despair. And darkness becomes your only companion.

Going deep for a second here, a number of years back, I experienced what can only be called a spiritual depression. It was a physically weighted emotional pain so deep that it felt like it was crushing me. It lasted for months, it last for like 15 months. I don't remember exacrly how many. It got to the point were I started begging God every day to pls help me. It was like I was able to see all of the seriousness of the sin in the world and felt the weight of Christ's cross every single day. Through that period of time I began begging Him to help me I started questioning whether I was actually experiencing the full weight of His cross. I got the answer that no it wasn't. Sometime later I started wondering if maybe it was a third of the weight or some portion of it cause it was so extrodinarily painful. He then lifted the pain and I perceived what it actually was, it was the weight of the sins he carried for me alone. The sorrow for my unworthiness, I can't even explain it. Yeah, He loves you and hears your pleas.

What an incredible blessing. I believe the illumination of conscience is what you experienced and our Lady has told us we will all experience this as an event in the future. I haven't read the book so I'm not familiar with the meaning for the "illumination of consciousness" within that context but I will say that it's like a reverberation, like an awareness of being the butterfly in the Chaos effect. You become so explicitly aware of your will and it's effect on both the internal and external worlds that it becomes weighted and crushing, is the only way to put it. It has the affect of making you want to only follow the will of God, to align yourself so closely with God that your will is God's will and not your own/ego driven. Pray for it to occur sooner than later for yourself and in so doing prepare yourself for pain, emotional, mental, and physical. It feels like how Hieronymus Bosch's Hell looks.

Sounds like the illumination of conscience or the dark night of the soul..either way, it's a sign that you're very important to me Lord and this happens to those who he loves and are going to do great things for the kingdom of God here in our broken world. I personally have experienced both of these and only after several years have realized what God was doing to move me in a direction that made us closer..hopefully this helps and I'll pray for you 🙏

The Centurion's servant story is interesting as Jesus said he had 'great faith' now Jesus also said this about the Syrophoenician woman's daughter miracle, (Mat 15) the common denominator here is that neither of these recipients were Jewish. They had no knowledge of the law, they simply were very Jesus conscious, accepted him for who he was.

I thought that St. John the Baptist received the gift of the Holy Spirit by Jesus when they were both in the womb, at the Visitation, and that John's mother Elizabeth was also filled with the Holy Spirit when she exclaimed "Who am I that the Mother of my Lord should come to me?"

Mount Angel Abbey in Oregon was one of the most magnificent experiences of my adult life. I literally felt God when I stepped onto the grounds. I don’t know how else to describe it. Many years ago I took a class on this and the teacher told us that Luke’s audience was Greek … and Greek mythology had their gods on mountains… to distinguish the true God from mythological gods - Luke changed the setting from a mount to a plain.

November 11, 2023 Round Two Please, I am looking for people to take a moment and pray with me for Souls in Purgatory. Can you help? According to tradition, St. Gertrude the Great was told by Our Lord that each time she piously recited the following prayer, it would release 1,000 souls (or a vast number) from their suffering in purgatory: Eternal Father, I offer You the most precious blood of thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal Church, for those in my own home, and in my family. Amen. In her account of another vision, St. Faustina describes Purgatory as a "great crowd of suffering souls" undergoing purification. Further, she says that the souls are "praying fervently, but to no avail, for themselves; only we can come to their aid" (Diary, 20) Father I need your grace again because I am not the witness I want to be.
