God requires our Gratitude. Uzziah became a great organizational leader, a victor in war and conqueror of Israel’s longstanding enemies. And “he was a man who loved the soil,” with workers who care for his farms, vineyards, and vast herds of cattle. But when you own “the cattle on a thousand hills” and forget that it’s the Lord who really owns them, Uzziah seems to seek the eternality of Melchizidek, the priest and king who blessed Abraham. It seems that Uzziah’s hunger for everlasting power crowds out the thankfulness he should have for God’s generosity. Gratitude is the foundation of humility, which God always rewards with His loving presence.

My God-shot: I love the Word. A phrase keeps repeating itself as we read about these kings “…he did what was right in the Lord’s sight. Yes the high places were not taken away.” Many times in my life I have been following the Lord and hear the Holy Spirit saying “Well done my good and faithful servant…but there are still idols that need to be taken away.” I can’t speak for anyone else but even I serve God with love and truth I need to continually search my heart to remove idols. Sometimes I’ve been willing to do this and others not so much. Thankfully His grace is more than enough to keep me going. I love you Lord.

Pride will get you every time. King or common person, the minute we think we have a better way than God it will be our downfall. It amazes me that STILL the high places are not taken down. Ya gotta wonder why. They have to know it’s wrong, even the good kings. Was it so culturally difficult to break the patterns of others and idols worshipers? Kinda makes me think of how today in out culture sometimes Christians will side with sin as a cultural norm instead of Gods word. Sin is sin and His word stands forever to be true and right. We don’t like to be told what to do BUT as soon as we realize Gods love for us and His true nature it is EASY to obey because we can trust Him. Thank You Lord for allowing me to be Yours ❤️🙌

I agree. Every time I see the text say they did not remove the high places or asherah poles, I think - WHY??!? Then, I wonder what GOD is still teaching us (me)? What are the high places we / i haven’t removed? GOD is probably saying to me, “come on, tear those down already!!” 💜

It seems easy to get rid of the high places. But even today we still have them. While they may not be the “pagan” high places, the high places in our society reflect our hearts, TV, money, self-image, Facebook (likes/dislikes), influencing, etc. We are not that different. Whatever we do that takes us away from God, relationships, service to others may be our high place. Self-reflection is key. Repenting and Trusting Jesus is our salvation. I’m so grateful to only rely on Him. I pray for me and our communities to stay focused on Him when chaos is everywhere. Thank you Jesus. Thank you God for your salvation.

Are we sometimes arrogant with God, made confident because of His blessings and yet forgetting He’s the source of it all like Uzziah? I believe God enjoys providing for us and our right reaction is to want to praise and worship Him, but we should do so in humility not arrogance.

God sees our hearts. He is after our hearts. God, you know my heart gets derailed easily. Help me stay focused on You. Keep my heart true to You. Redirectme when I get too close to the line. Help us recognize when we are looking to ourselves for direction and discernment and recalibrate to our God and Father! God, You will guide us. Help us hear your instructions and follow You!

Every single king, including the ones in Judah who did what was right in the eyes of God, was very flawed. Uzziah did well until he became prideful. He thought he could go into the temple of the Lord and offer incense, but that role was strictly for the Levite priests. The Lord was actually merciful to him because He could have chosen to strike him dead like Nadab and Abihu (see Leviticus 10). Instead, he was struck with leprosy. Unfortunately, he lived the rest of his days with that disease, separated from everyone, and was no longer able to go to the temple. There is always a consequence to sin. Lord, forgive me when I become prideful and selfish. Thank You, God, for the gift of repentance and forgiveness given through Jesus Christ.

My God shot is in 2 Kings 15:12 - “ This was the word of the Lord which He spoke to Jehu, saying, ‘Your sons shall sit on the throne of Israel to the fourth generation.’ And it was so.” What God says He will do, He does! He is the One who is always constant and true! Whether it is a promise of good things or of discipline, He does it! I can trust in His Word!

King Uzziah was a multi-tasker. Water systems, livestock, agriculture, military preparedness, . But when he co-opted the responsibility of the priests, he sinned. Or maybe it was his anger at being corrected by the priests that was the greater sin.

Day 189 King Azariah is also known as King Uzziah. He is a good king. The word tells us he was helped by God. Sadly when he reaches success he grows prideful. He goes to burn incense in the temple in Jerusalem. This was only allowed to be done by the priests. The Bible says he was unfaithful to God.The same word, unfaithful translated to the kind of unfaithfulness that can happen in marriage. It was a big deal. The priest rush in to stop him. But the King was unrepentant. When he grows angry with the priests, God struck him with leprosy. The priest stop him before he can light the sensor to burn the incense. Even though the king does not commit to actual sin, his heart is still set on it. The motives of his heart are what he is being judged on. The priests rush him out so as not to defile the Lord’s temple as they see him break out with leprosy. From that point the king’s son, Jotham takes over/ co-reigns until the king dies alone in a separate house. King Jotham is considered to be a good king. Mostly walking in God’s ways. But unfortunately he did not remove the high places. In Northern Israel we see the rise and fall of 5 bad kings. Most of them were assassinated. This line of Kings is on the decline. We know that God’s promises are connected with the other kingdom, the southern kingdom of Judah, the line of David. We see God’s timeline being fulfilled.God had said to King Jehu because you have done what was right and carried out my commands against the house of Ahab, your sons of the 4th generation shall sit on the throne of Israel. So we see the Northern Kingdom diminishing. So many of God’s attributes on display. He is righteous, merciful, efficient and wise. He keeps His word. His ways are true and trustworthy.
