I was struck by the fact that Saul was cowardly and hiding (almost forced to take kingship) in chapter 10 and the contrast to his reaction in the next chapter when "the Spirit of God rushed upon him". How true is that even for us? While we don't have to worry about the Spirit coming and going from us now, we still have to take heed to His promptings and direction. When we do things in our own power and knowledge, I think we can often look like cowardly Saul. But with God, that fear turns into action!

“Have mercy on me, a sinner” (Lk 28:13). God and Samuel have told His people that they have sinned in rejecting God as their king, and yet (1 Sam 9:16), He “looked down in mercy on [His] people and heard their cry.” God is not One who says, “Obey Me or I’ll punish you.” He says, “When you sin, I will have mercy, show you your mistake so that you will repent (see the thunderstorm at 1 Sam 12:18), and tell you to stop going back to worthless idols that will never help you (1 Sam 12:21).” As Samuel reminds us, “Fear the LORD and faithfully serve Him. Think of all the wonderful things He has done for you” (1 Sam 12:24).

A 100 days! I'm so happy and I thank the Lord who has carried me through this path. Every day takes me closer and closer to Who He is. I love getting to know more about him, and I feel so loved on the way. This amazing God cares so much about me, about us. What a gift and joy. When I first started this reading plan I was afraid it would be hard, or that it would be a slow and difficult reading every day. But it has been the polar opposite. This is my happy time with my best friend. Congratulations to us, brothers and sisters

Wow. That God Shot is what I really needed to hear. I have been given some bitter news about a family member and I have been devastated and slowly spiraling. And then I wonder "was I ever genuine ? Does the Lord still forgive me when I knowingly sin? Am I going to hell?" I am thankful to know that God still loves me. There's one thing to know it and another thing to be reminded of it. ❤

1 Samuel 9-12 Today is our 100th day in the Bible this year! God tell Samuel he is to appoint a king. He tells him the man he is to make king is on the way to meet him. God arranges the circumstances perfectly so that everything goes as planned. Saul, to be king, is a Benjamite. He was from the tribe that caused Israel’s first civil war. They were not viewed highly. Saul’s appearance and height cause him to stand out. Probably about 6ft 3. Samuel invites him to a feast and then to sleep on the roof. The roof was the more desirable spot bc of the breeze. Samuel anoints Saul as king as they are walking. He gives Saul three separate incidences that are to happen in the future to confirm this. Samuel tell Saul to go to Gilgal and wait for him for seven days for instruction. All of Samuel’s prophecies came true. God’s power comes upon Saul. Samuel then gathers the people and calls for Saul. Saul is hiding from them all. He is brought out and anointed as king. Saul is filled with righteous anger at word of danger for his fellow Israelites. He requires Israel to fight together and they are successful. Saul wins the people over at this success. Samuel implores the people to continue and follow God. In verse 22 it says God was pleased to make them a people for Himself. These people who try and test God all the time. They reject Him repeatedly and He still loves them. Wow! Consider the heart of God who adopts sinners and loves them regardless. He is pleased to call them ( and us ) His child.

•The Lord hears our cries and remembers us (acts), although when He gives us what we ask for, although it may not be what He would want, and we may be out of His will. I don't want that, so I pray for His will for myself and when in intercede for others. •I always pray to not be afraid or angry when I feel it coming on in a situation, but God does use our fear and anger as motivation, so asking for discernment is critical. •When we sin, we shouldn't turn away from God but draw nearer, worship Him faithfully, and repent. Everything we try to gain is pointless without Him. He IS everything! •It doesn't matter who the leader is, what title they hold - judge, king, president - because the Lord is all powerful and everything is His. If we don't put Him first, His hand will be against us.

Whoot whoot🎉❤🎉 Today is 100 days😊 I am so overjoyed to have made it this far. I'm amazed at what I've already learned and in awe that I still have 56 books to go 😮 I can actually imagine now how much better my walk with God will be when I complete my 1st time through His entire bible. I have missed days here and there, but I no longer allow guilt to eat me up and try to hide from Him as I always did before. That has been 1 change that I've noticed, and I'm beyond grateful 🙏 I've also noticed that I think of Him daily but not as I used to. I want to be in His word, and I find myself honestly excited for the next day's reading. I'm using along with The Bible Recap, The Blue Bible app to help me understand parts I struggle with, along with The Bible knowledge serious, Old and New Testimate, and it's helped so much. You know, I wonder what kind of man Saul was before The Spirit of God changed his heart. Although he was tall and handsome, he seemed to think lowly of himself since he was found hiding in the equipment. I'm thinking that God gave him a bold heart since he prophesied and threatened all Israel if they did not come and fight against the Ammonites. Only God can do it! Glory to His name. Now here is the king you have chosen, one you asked for; see, the Lord has set a king over you. “Do not be afraid,” Samuel replied. “You have done all this evil; yet do not turn away from the Lord, but serve the Lord with all your heart. Saul of Gibeah, son of Kish, from the tribe of Benjamin, which is the smallest tribe, is chosen by God as king. In God's devine providence, Kish loses a donkey. Kish sends Saul along with a servant to go find the animal. They go as far as the land of Zuph and can't find the donkey. Saul is ready to turn back and head home, but his servant tells him that Samuel, the prophet (or seer), lives there and that they should consult with him. When they arrive, Samuel invites them to a feast and seats them at the head of the table. It just so happens that the night before, God tells Samuel about Saul coming into town. Samuel has the choice portion of meat brought out for Saul. They eat and enjoy. Then, Saul and his servant stay overnight. The next day, Samuel sends the servant ahead so that he can talk with Saul alone. Samuel tells Saul that his father's donkey is safe and that God has chosen him to be king of Israel. Samuel takes a flask of oil, anoints him, and kisses him. Then, he gives Saul 3 signs that will happen as he makes his way to Gilgal. The last sign is that he will meet a group of prophets who are prophesying. The spirit of God will rush upon him, causing him to also prophesy. After Saul was officially made the king of Israel in front of the people, Nahon, who was king of the Ammonites, besieged Gabesh-gilead. The people of Gabesh-gilead wanted a treaty to be made between them and the Ammonites. They were willing to be servants for the Ammonites, but Nahon wanted to make an embarrassment of them by gouging their right eyes out. Gabesh-gilead requests to be given 7 days to seek help from their neighbors. When Saul heard the news, the spirit of God rushed upon him, and his anger was kindled. He rallied the troops in a very unusual manner. He dismembered oxen and sent their body parts throughout Israel. The dread of the Lord fell upon them, and they came to Saul, 300,000 men of Israel, 30,000 of Judah, and they defeat the Ammonites. After that victory, they gather in Gilgal, where they declare Saul king before the Lord. The people sacrifice peace offerings before the Lord, and it is a great celebration. Once Saul is established as the king of Israel, Samuel gives a farewell speech. He tells the people of his integrity before them and challenges them to say whether he did or did not act honorable all of his days as their priest and prophet. The people agree (give witness) that he has served them well. Samuel does let them know that they have added to their sin by requesting a human king. Israel was supposed to be set apart from the other nations around them because the Lord was to be their king. And, the Lord gave a sign to let Israel know that what Samuel said was true. I am thankful that the people had a right response. The people say, “Pray for your servants to the Lord your God, that we may not die, for we have added to all our sins this evil, to ask for ourselves a king (1 Samuel 12:19)." Samuel's response is my God shot for today. Samuel says that he will continue to pray for them and instruct them. Samuel is no longer a judge, but he is still their prophet. He tells them not to be afraid. He reminds them that God has not forsaken them because they are His chosen people and that they are to fear Him, love Him, and obey Him (12: 20-25). That's our gracious heavenly Father. He keeps showing us mercy. What an amazing God!

Yet do not turn aside from following the Lord, but serve the Lord with all your heart. [21] And do not turn aside after empty things that cannot profit or deliver, for they are empty. I'm watching this today, knowing that I have had a bad day at work, and I feel stupid for being mad or angry at people, mainly women & couples young and old holding hands, yes I still yell and lash out at them, who want to rub it in my face, that I don't have a wife or girlfriend or kids. I'm closer to 40 than 30 years old, still a virgin, and still living with my parents. I stink like I haven't showered or bathed in weeks, that I'm creepy and pathetic and that no girl or woman will ever flirt with me EVER and I'll just grow old and die alone and Besides having a speech disorder, I think I might have or have a higher chance of having PTSD, the 4th and 5th forms, Uncomplicated and Complex. I just wish that there was a bucket of ice cream or chicken or a dozen containers yogurt, 12, that I could eat right now at the moment. At least it's better than thinking about committing suicide, jumping off the bridge into the river at 16 years old, months AFTER I was embarrassed at a Red Robin on my 16th birthday. I honestly still blame all my problems, all the bad stuff that happened to me since day one on my 2nd grade teacher, Mrs Dalton, how she ANGERED ME 😡🔥! That & I'm also an introvert, and I haven't had a first kiss from a girl & I feel like people or the world has turned against me, don't care about me or my feelings or that I'm sweating or burning up outside while at work and I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHY🥺💒🙏✝️👍🤟🙂👦👧❤️💋.

Back in in Genesis Jacob told Judah the scepter would not depart him. Saul is a Benjamite so did Samuel not understand any king should come from Judah? He didn’t seem to question that at all. Or was Saul chosen just to show how bad thins King deal was going to be? But then we get David who is of the tribe of Judah?
@antoinettehereford8180 Жыл бұрын
1 Samuel 9:15-16 Now the day before Saul came, the Lord had revealed to Samuel: “Tomorrow about this time I will send to you a man from the land of Benjamin, and you shall anoint him to be prince over my people Israel. He shall save my people from the hand of the Philistines. For I have seen my people, because their cry has come to me.” According to the above scripture from today's reading, Saul was indeed God's choice. It may have been so that the people could see what having a king would look like before David is chosen as the 2nd king, but can't say for sure. But, God had his reason for choosing Saul.
