Very informative as always What is interesting with the Mosaic Law is that it is setup exacty like.a Suzerain Vassal Treaty of the Ancient near East. A suzerain Treaty is where a King would take on another nation as a vassal. The Suzerain or Lord would establish what the vassal would now need to do to please their new overlord in the form of stipulations. Then the Suzerain would include what blessings they would receive if they were loyal and what curse would fall on them if they were not. The Suzerain Vassal Treaty/Covenant has six Basic features: 1) a preamble that identifies the suzerain 2) a historical prologue that recounts the previous relationship between the parties 3) covenant stipulations to which the vassal must agree. 4) provisions for periodic reading and safekeeping of the covenant 5) witnesses to the covenant 6) blessings and curses should the vassal either keep or fail to keep the covenant. Here is how the Mosaic Covenant has the six Basic features of a Suzerain Vassal Covenant. 1. (Exodus 20:2a and Deuteronomy 5:6a) record the preamble that identifies Yahweh as the suzerain: “I am Yahweh your God.” 2. (Exod 20:2b and Deut 5:6b) Yahweh reminds the people that he rescued them from slavery in Egypt. 3. The covenant stipulations, or the requirements for relationship with Yahweh, are recorded in (Exod 20:3-23:19; 25:1-31:18 and Deut 5:7-21 among other places.) 4. Provisions for storing the covenant in the tabernacle and periodically reading it are recorded in several places (Exod 24:7; 25:21; Deut 10:5; 31:10-12). 5. Yahweh called heaven and earth as witnesses to the covenant (Deut 4:26; 30:19-20; 31:28). 6. Deuteronomy records an extensive list of blessings that accompany covenant faithfulness and curses that result from unfaithfulness to the covenant (Deut 27:11-28:68).[12] In sum, the Sinaitic covenant was a suzerain/vassal treaty between Yahweh and Israel. The Suzerain (The LORD)in this case took on vassals to glorify themselves and to make their name great. The Vassals (The Nation of Israel) were seen as extensions of him and what they did reflected the character of the Suzerain.

Unrelated to this video, but I love your channel and would love your take on a question I, and probably a lot of other believers have. I was blessed to be born into a family where my mom turned to Jesus and started attending church. Because of this, over the years, our whole family grew up in the church community, and are all saved Christian’s and believers active in the local church. What does the Bible say about people that were not so blessed? How will God judge someone born in the 1800’s in some remote village of some Amazon rainforest, having never in his life heard of the gospel. That person was just born and lived in some remote village, and died there. Does the Bible talk about people that have never had access to the word of God and how God will judge those people who never heard the good news by no fault of their own? Thank you!
@TheBiblicalRoots
@TheBiblicalRoots Жыл бұрын
That's a great question, PP! The Bible teaches that all people are accountable to God, whether or not they've “heard about Him.” God has clearly revealed Himself in nature (Rom. 1:20) and in the hearts of people (Ecc. 3:11). The problem is that the human race is sinful; we all reject this knowledge of God and rebel against Him (Rom. 1:21-23), and instead worship a “god” of our own creation. Which makes Jesus' great commission all the more important! As Christians, we're called to spread the Gospel throughout the nations (Matt. 28:19-20; Acts 1:8). This brings up an interesting question. What about those who _do_ come to a genuine faith in God because of His revelation in nature and in their hearts, but they don't ever have access to a Bible because no one ever shared it with them? I'm not aware that the Bible speaks directly to this scenario. But here I believe we can put our trust in the infinite love and justice of the Living God, who knows all men's hearts. He will do what is just and right with every human being. "The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance" (2 Pet. 3:9). Blessings, Rob

So I am probably going to post something on my Apologetics board against Seventh Day Adventism, because Adventism is really fixated on the 10 commandments (They actually believe they are God's Eternal laws given before the beginning of time to the Angels in heaven!).

You are right about that; Adventists have two golden calf idols- the ancient and abrogated weekly appointed feast of Shabbat, and a false investigator Jesus who has all Christians on probation and under investigation to determine if they are worthy of heaven. Adventists are not Christians. Adventists proclaim the Decalogue is the law of God- it’s not. The Decalogue was simply the executive summary of the entire Jewish book of law- the table of contents of the entire book. The law of God for Israel was a temporary law until the promise to Abraham appeared, and established a new and better covenant based upon better promises, and established a new and better law.

Do you have any suggestions on how to handle a Hebrew Roots follower that says the words in the Bible that are in parentheses were not there originally and therefore don’t have any real weight to them? They basically discount anything that is said in parentheses. Which unfortunately quite a few points that combat their thinking on keeping the law they disregard since it’s in parentheses. For example, Mark 7:19 they insist Jesus is only talking about hand washing and without the parentheses it’s difficult to insist he is speaking of food. Then as you mentioned Paul saying he himself is not under the law in 1Cor. 9:20. I see if even without the parentheses, but this person refuses to. Another issue is Bible version road block. She uses the Complete Jewish Bible. When speaking about Colossians 2:17 her Bible says “These are a shadow of things that are coming, but the body is of the Messiah.” ‭‭Her bible version does not say “these were a shadow of things to come.” It makes no sense! These crucial points taken away from the text makes it very difficult to get a point across without a blockage. Your help would be much appreciated! Thanks for the awesome videos!

Hello, Isaac! I am actually not "Torah-observant" and I teach that followers of Jesus are not required to keep the Old Covenant laws. While the Torah is a beautiful and fundamental part of the Christian faith, _Torahism_ is the unbiblical misapplication of the laws of God. In a nutshell, Torahism is any belief system that teaches that Christians are required to keep the law of Moses and not doing so is sinful and disobedient. Torahist teachers include Jim Staley, Monte Judah, 119 Ministries, David Wilbur, Steve Moutria, and others. Blessings! Rob

@@TheBiblicalRoots Hi Mr. Solberg. With all due respect, I don't believe for a second that you're a lawless one? Surely you observe the Torah of God as given to us through His Son and our Master Jesus Christ. Perhaps it's the idea that God's Torah is strictly contained within the first five books of the bible that caused the confusion, I apologize for not being clearer. I appreciate your feedback and if I am understanding Torahism better, it's not people/organizations that teach salvation and righteousness are obtained by Torah observance (we all know this to be false) but rather Torahism is anybody that teaches that the Torah outlined in the Old Covenant still holds the authority of God?

Hey there, I enjoy your content but wanted to follow up regarcing Acts 10. Acts 10 is referring the the Gentiles being grafted in? Not about food? This was about Peter no longer viewing the Gentiles as "unclean." Let me know your thoughts. Take care, God bless you in Jesus name, Amen.
@TheBiblicalRoots
@TheBiblicalRoots Жыл бұрын
Hello! There are three big problems with the idea that Peter’s vision in Acts 10 was only about Gentiles and had nothing to do with food. First, the vision was _literally about food._ Jesus told Peter to eat the animals. Second, on what basis are we willing to allow for a change on the issue of people but not food? That’s arbitrary. Third, if the vision of the food was solely intended as a metaphor for the Gentiles, then Jesus was using a false analogy. He essentially said, “Look, I know in this vision I’m telling you that all food is now clean, but that’s not true. It’s just an example to show you that you can hang out with Gentiles now.” But God does not use false metaphors. Food and people are tightly linked in the Torah (See Lev. 20:25-26). This is how Peter knew (without being told) that a vision that was _only_ about food signaled a change in the status of people as well. Blessings, Rob

Hold on ……. The manuscript controversy is deep stuff. The new, more ancient, manuscripts are not necessarily reliable. The King James Bible is based on manuscripts attested by the church all along the line, whereas the new old ones were in the rubbish dump because they weren’t used and so did not wear out. The ones that were used wore out and new copies made. So the new ones were the old ones on new scrolls, or books. “Truth in Christ” has some great videos on the numerical patterns in the KJB, as evidence that it is inspired by God, and other versions are not. Well worth watching.

Hi Elizabeth. That's actually not the case. The "new old" MSS were not in the rubbish dump and only preserved because of lack of use. Where did you hear that idea? Even if some "rubbish dump" MSS were found, the process of textual criticism weeds out such inconsistencies. The new, more ancient, manuscripts used by the vast majority of biblical scholars are certainly reliable. Best, Rob

At 5:43, the video says Jacob went to Egypt and worked for Pharoah. I think he means Joseph. Well, I wasted my comment on that. I was going to finish the video and then ask my questions/state the issues the people argue with me. Such as laws given before Moses and the fact thst the disciples still kept the law, how does the new covenant come into play with gentiles, etc. But I wanted to watch the whole thing first in case they were answered. I need a better way to communicate what the Bible says. Oh, well. Back to watching the video. Side note: at 15:30, the video shows that it says God sent his son, but then at 16:11, he states that the scripture says God became flesh and shows the verse saying the word became flesh. So, was Jesus the son of God, or God? For we know God is not a man, nor son of man (Numbers 23:19). Of course Peter says he is the son of the living God (Matthew 16:16, John 6:69). It just struck me weird that the word, "word" would be changed to "God", seemingly taking the definition of "the word was God" rather than "the word was with God". I know people debate this, but I also find it weird that Jesus prayed to the Father, and not himself. Now I have to back up the video and re-watch the parts I missed.

Rev 21:27 "and nothing unclean, and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into it (New Jerusalem), but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life." If we have been taught that the ceremonial laws have been done away with, how is it there are still unclean aspects of obedience relating to the Scriptures in the end times? Doesn't the Scripture say eating pork is an abomination (Isa 66:17b)? I see nowhere in Scripture where the Lord divides his commands into ceremonial and moral law, but he only divides them up into commandments, statues and judgments and tells us to obey all of them. Why are we taught to do it differently and disregard some?
@TheBiblicalRoots
@TheBiblicalRoots Жыл бұрын
Hi, Flyguy! I teach and believe that obedience is God’s “love language.” Jesus said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments” (John 14:15). And I'm sure you would agree that not every command that God has given applies to every person at all times. Some of His commands only apply to certain people (i.e., men, women, parents, Levitical priests) or for certain times (i.e., building an ark, gathering manna, while in exile). And I'm sure you would also agree that we are each only expected to keep the commands of God that apply to us. The NT teaches that the ceremonial commands given under the Law of the Sinai Covenant do not apply to Christians today. (ex. Repeated blood sacrifices for sin are no longer required (Heb 10:18).) We still serve God and obey His commands, “But now we are released from the law, having died with Christ to that which held us captive, so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit and not in the old way of the written code” (Rom 7:6). @@TheBiblicalRoots Rob, I will be blunt. We might agree on a few things, but you are not following the Elohim YHWH and His Son of the Jewish Scriptures in the OT through NT. You don’t practice Shabbat and you eat abominable animals according to the Jewish Scriptures. The savior you claim to follow in the Jewish Scriptures never practiced what you teach and do. YHWH and His Son both commanded you obey them if you love the One True Elohim. YHWH records that He does not change, that is elementary to the Faith, yet you teach that He has changed in how he judges man. The Protestant church is still following the false Catholic god and worshiping at its polluted feast. Quoting Scripture to support things Yeshua never did is disinformation. Again, if Jesus declared all foods clean, why 30+ years post resurrection did his disciples still not eat unclean? More importantly, why was Yeshua not rightly accused of violating the dietary Torah at His Capital trials, but only falsely testimony was used and recorded for eternity? Any good Jewish lawyer would have used convicted Him of eating unclean and leading others to instead of the false testimony. Please check the spirit that you are teaching and following. On another note, we saw your friend Tovia Singer at Zion Square in Jerusalem this last Sukkot. You did an incredibly great job in your debate with him about Yeshua being the Messiah. Shalom Martin

If you are feeling guilty about being a sinner you don't have to worry anymore because there is no such thing as sin, it’s just a method used to make you feel guilty, it doesn't exist and you can now go about your life free from feelings of guilt, anxiety, paranoia, unworthiness and fear. Sin is a concept dreamed up by the purveyors of religion, its purpose is to keep you under control, make you fearful of a terrible future after your death, but most importantly sin was devised as a method of keeping you tithing to the parasites who have been keeping you in fear, the more money you paid them the less guilt and fear you felt. Laws are devised and legislated by Governments for the welfare and protection of their constituents, they are the only laws we need to observe. The multitude of religious laws called "sin" are not recognized by our Courts except where they are duplicated in common law. Laws that govern our citizens are not there because they have been written into that old contradictory book called the bible, they are there because of our needs for natural justice, they are debated and voted upon before being legislated or changed. If our laws were based on the concept of "sin" each and every one of us would spend a good deal of our lives in prison, thinking bad thoughts would be punishable by the State, looking at people of the opposite sex with desire would make us criminals, Etc. etc. etc. etc. So now that you are free from all those guilty feelings there is no need to give any more of your hard earned money to parasitic Preachers, Priests, Pastors or any church, you can keep it all, then you can begin enjoying your life doing all the things you were warned about by religious fanatics, you are instantly free of all their nonsense.

Very interesting, Lili! Let me ask you this: Do you always behave in exactly the way you should behave and always treat other people just as they should be treated? Or do you sometimes have "human" moments and, for example, say something hurtful in anger, or talk crap about someone behind their back and they later find out what you said, or lie to a friend, or not address a situation when you know you should have? And in those human moments, do you feel a little guilty or remorseful? If so, you know what sin is. Blessings, Rob

No, Christians by their very nature are the most judgmental, intolerant, hate filled creatures on Earth, only rivalled by their equally fervor driven religious fanatics, fundamentalist Muslims. They are full of hatred for anybody or group that doesn’t conform to their concepts of morality or what they see as right or wrong according to their interpretation of their discredited book of lies and fairy stories called the bible. Their hatred extends to all non Christians, the LGBTQ community, Family planning centers, Different branches of their own religion, Women’s rights organizations, Schools teaching evolution instead of superstition, The separation of church and the State, Alternate religions such as Buddhism, Wicca or Paganism, in fact everything they are suspicious or afraid of. Their concept of Utopia on Earth is one where there is complete and strict control of the whole population such as we see in Iran and Saudi Arabia. The problem is they’ll have to wait until they reach Heaven themselves before they can experience that ideal. @@TheBiblicalRoots

At the END of it ALL, after ALL the JIBRISH, the LAWS are STILL with Us, especially the COMMANDMENTS including the SABBATH. FEAST DAYS, supposedly too, as YAHSHUA did NOT COMMAND Us to CELEBRATE Christmas, Easter, Good Friday, January 01st.

MOSES DOES NOT HAVE A COVENANT ; MOSES IS THE MEDIATOR OF THE COVENANT BETWEEN THE FATHER AND THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL . MOSES IS THE MEDIATOR/HUSBAND/COVERING/PROTECTION FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE COVENANT WITH THE FATHER : AS THE HUSBAND , THE SIN SACRIFICE LAW OF ATONEMENT CAME THROUGH THE MEDIATOR , UNDER A PRIESTHOOD ; WHICH WAS THE LEVITICUS PRIESTHOOD . THE LAW OF MOSES IS THE LAW OF ANIMAL SACRIFICE AND OBLATIONS . WHEN THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL FIRST WENT INTO THE COVENANT WITH THE FATHER , HE DID NOT GIVE THEM THE LAW OF ANIMAL SACRIFICE AND OBLATION FOR SIN ; IT WAS FOR OFFERINGS ; WHICH HAST BEEN FROM THE TIME OF CAIN AND ABEL . JEREMIAH 7:21-24 , ' 21.Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Put your burnt offerings unto your sacrifices, and eat flesh. 22For I spake not unto your fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices: 23But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you. 24But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward. IT WAS ONLY AFTER THEY STARTED TRANSGRESSING HIS LAWS WITHOUT REPENTING BY FAITH ( AS KING DAVID DID ) , THAT HE GAVE THEM THE ANIMAL SACRIFICE & OBLATIONS FOR SIN ; FOR THE FLESH/BODY ; WHICH WAS OF WORKS , NOT OF FAITH . GALATIANS 3:19 , " 19.Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator. JESUS IS THAT SEED THAT WOULD COME TO DO AWAY WITH THE LAW OF ANIMAL SACRIFICE & OBLATIONS OF WORKS . JESUS IS THE LAW OF FAITH ; THE SEED IN GENESIS 12:3 ; TO BLESS ALL FAMILIES OF THE EARTH . TO BE FORGIVEN OF YOUR SINS OF THE HEART/SPIRIT , YOU MUST REPENT OF YOUE SINS , AND BELIEVE THE GOSPEL ; WHICH ARE THE WORDS OF THE FATHER ; WHICH IS YOUR FAITH . THIS IS THE DIFFERENT OF THE COVENANT THROUGH MOSES , AND THE COVENANT THROUGH CHRIST . HEBREWS 7;11-16 , " 11.If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron? 12For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law. 13For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar. 14For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood. 15And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest, 16Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life. Although David wasn't your best example of faith and repenting. He wasn't initially going to repent except that the prophet confronted him about what he had done and warned him that he had better repent or else.

@@jeremiahh.3383 2 SAMUEL 12:1-14 , 1.And the LORD sent Nathan unto David. And he came unto him, and said unto him, There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor. 2The rich man had exceeding many flocks and herds: 3But the poor man had nothing, save one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished up: and it grew up together with him, and with his children; it did eat of his own meat, and drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was unto him as a daughter. 4And there came a traveller unto the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man that was come unto him; but took the poor man's lamb, and dressed it for the man that was come to him. 5And David's anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan, As the LORD liveth, the man that hath done this thing shall surely die: 6And he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity. 7And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul; 8And I gave thee thy master's house, and thy master's wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things. 9Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon. 10Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife. 11Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun. 12For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun. 13And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die. 14Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die. PSALM 51:1-19 , 1.(To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.) Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. 2Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. 3For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. 4Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. 5Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. 6Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. 7Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. 8Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. 9Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. 10Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. 11Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. 12Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. 13Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee. 14Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness. 15O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise. 16For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering. 17The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. 18Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem. 19Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar. DID THE PROPHET NATHAN SAY : " the prophet confronted him about what he had done and warned him that he had better repent or else " ? DEUTERONOMY 4:2 , " 2.Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you. "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. Therefore the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath." This is a clear reference to the making of the Sabbath on the first 7th day in Eden. And should be used as a clear argument for the diety of Jesus. But because people don't want to affirm the Sabbath as a creation ordinance, they neglect this beautiful truth. Maybe gay marriage and the Sabbath are strangely connected. What is the Sabbath, it is "union between one God and one particular day". Oh you want to change the day? Why can't a man just change the partner?
