Steve Vai says his fabric top JEM's are some of his best sounding guitars and it makes sense really....if you make the body out of maple the fabric will cut out some of the natural high end of the wood causing the tone to set really nicely in beautiful mid-range. That's in theory anyway...I know this guitar sounds good and Vai attests to the fabric tops so I can't wait to get my project started!...Hey everyone please leave me some suggestions on color/hardware combinations I'd love to see what you fine guitar players will suggest....right now I'm leaning toward a shiny silver fabric with black/silver sparkle outline burst with all chrome hardware and matching headstock. What would you suggest everyone?

Derek, don't be so hard on yourself. If your spray gun malfunctioned it is not your "screw up". As they say, we all make mistakes (or have things go wrong). The difference between an amateur and a pro - a pro knows what to do when it happens! You managed to produce a beautiful instrument DESPITE the problems! Well done!

you are the best at making these type of videos. Just an pour on trick... put your resin (not the hardener) in a hot water bath for about 5 minutes before you mix. This makes the resin loose and it mixes better with the hardener and creates less bubbles bc of the lower viscosity. I usually take a plastic container filled with tap water and heat it in the microwave for 2-3 minutes - then leave the pre-measured cup of resin in the hot water for a quick spell... most of my pours are with dollar store cups that transfer the heat pretty well bc they're cheap and have thin walls. Cheers.

This is hands down the most beautiful Telecaster I've ever seen, Big D you know I feel way I've told you that...my first build will be my Les Paul, and more than likely my second build will be a Les Paul as well but, when I build my set-neck Tele I'm definitely doing it this way.....the green was amazing I can't wait to see a millennium silver with black & silver sparkle aaccoutrements and two humbuckers "bridge and neck" I'm thinking Fenders Tim Shaws? We will see!!.....I've got a feeling that guitar is gonna be legendary. I'm not gonna lie I'd almost do anything to have that Metallic Green Paisley Fabric Tele. One more thing Steve Vai had a floral and black fabric run of his Ibanez Jems and he said that the fabric guitars were the best sounding guitars that they (Ibanez) ever made for him look it up on his Premiere Guitar rig rundown he said the fabric guitars were the best sounding guitars that he had and I believe him I believe, they do just cut out just enough high end while rounding the remaining high end out to more compliment the mid range of the highs I can't wait to do this.

Derek, your creative genius never disappoints, wow man you're one gifted luthier. So this video inspired me combined with another video you made a while back. Admittedly this adds a lot of technical challenges but here goes. Your tobacco/honey fades are world class with honey in the center fading out to the edges with dark brown or even black. With that fabric effect, I can imagine it being used on the body sides with you blk/brown dark transition to the honey/ice tea fade on the top, except that the gold paisley kinda ghosts through on the guitar sides.

Can you recommend a combination of a sealer, paint, & clear coat if you only have access to rattle cans? Dupli-color which offers the best range of metallic colours is acrylic and most sanding sealers I can find (here in Australia) are oil based.
