Gotta respect the dedication of laying down every single brick of the walls by hand. Incredible work!

This is just MAGNIFICENT. You have inspired me - I have materials on hand that I think I could do this with... And my hat is off to you...when you began matching the colors of the floors with the actual board, you took it to a whole other level, LOL !!! Understand, I also love HeroQuest...probably out of all proportion to how good it is, objectively, as a game. But I feel like you may have spent more time building this board, than the creator spent writing the original rules! (Just kidding!) I do have many fun memories of playing it with my son before he was really old enough to handle something like D&D. Alas, tragedy struck (the game, not my son...he grew into a full-size adult geek with his own shelves of games). You may want to sit down for this story. With my permission, he took it to a local "Boys & Girls" club, which had a collection of board games. It soon became the most popular game they had, and was played avidly every weekday after school by enthralled kids. My understanding is that the young Volunteers (mostly High School students or early 20s) who were there acting as kind of monitors for the kids, got some push-back from parents about the game having a heavy focus on slashing, chopping, and stabbing things until they bled out on the cold dungeon floor. After which the Volunteers introduced a video-game-like expedient that when you did enough damage to a "monster" they were just "banished" back to wherever they were summoned from, and disappeared, leaving no nasty mess, and without a bloody death to offend any delicate parents. But that was only Round One. At some point, a new Administrator came in, and she apparently felt that the game included a number of elements that were VERY inappropriate for children: Spells and Magic (I mean, hey, its got clear evidence of Necromancy, and that's illegal even in Kingdoms that are tolerant toward most mundane Magery). "Is that...a rack? A device of TORTURE?!?" And I'm sure the presence of the miniature that was obviously a DEMON didn't help matters, even if it wasn't one. Clearly, she was one of those people who look at a group of kids playing D&D and see something like this T-shirt: cdn.media.amplience.net/s/hottopic/11261916_hi?$productMainDesktopRetina$ I don't know if she actually crossed herself when she first saw the game, just as I'll never know if she ritually burned it in Holy Flame, or merely tossed it in a dumpster - but she got rid of it. Of course, she did this when there weren't many others around, without realizing that they didn't own every game on the site. I had been happy to let them use it on a long-term loan. I was NOT "happy" when I found out what happened to it. They were very sorry of course, and she hadn't realized any of the games were privately owned, etc. And then they offered to pay for a new copy, proffering an amount of money that might have purchased me a new copy of, say, "Monopoly". I just laughed, since the game was out of print at that point (this was long before it was re-released). So I showed them on the internet how much they could expect to pay for a copy, if they could even find one!

OMG! That is the most horrific HeroQuest story I have heard yet. I have been told several stories about lost games or games that parent's sold in yard sales and such. But that is by far the worst!

take a coffee can, put in some washed river pebbles and some jagged crushed road gravel, add your foam bricks, shake the can like a mofo, check the can and foam bricks for weathered texture, keep shaking to weather them more.

Do you need to use a special primer or does the modge podge pant mix protect the foam from the spray primer

No special primer necessary. The modge podge protects the foam.

So nice! I wonder though, when you put the furniture on the new board, isn't the furniture too small, now? Can you 3D print them [the furniture] to make them bigger? If yes, in what ratio? Because either (1) they won't fit in a wall-corner anymore, either (2) they will appear small compared to the floor squares or (3) too big compared to the miniatures...... ? Anyway, well done, it looks excellent! I want one now.
@EHeathRobinson3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I am glad you are enjoying the build. I thought someone might ask this question about the furniture. While it might be a little bit on the small side since we enlarged the board, truthfully, it hasn't been an issue when playing. It really hasn't come up. Maybe one day, as another project, we will make some HeroQuest furniture at 115% or 125% scale, but I would also want to upgrade the furniture in some way at the same time. Just building it a bit bigger would not be worth it to me.
@recowabunga72003 жыл бұрын
@@EHeathRobinson I agree with you. Bigger furniture would make the miniatures feel too small in comparison - and bigger miniatures means you want to increase tile size again... an endless loop of rabbit holes. Therefore I agree with you, KISS (keep it simple). Also, your gargoyle painting is beautiful!

@@recowabunga7200 I think the gargoyle is my favorite miniature I painted from this game. I think he came out great too.

In other words ! You have to be an artist to do that! Not everyone has this ability. Especially when you look at the tools it takes and you don't have any of that. You're not going to buy all this stuff just to try, especially when you've always known you have no DIY skills.

It was a very creative endeavor.

@@EHeathRobinson I admit, I'm jealous and I a little envy people who have this talent.😉 But I accepted a long time ago that I'm one of the losers in this category. When you don't have it, you don't have it! I'm nervous about DIY and I can't see the point of each step. Don't worry, it's due to a particularity of a disorder so I was diagnosed and I understood why I had more difficulty in certain areas than others.
