Iverson man that dude broke every mold. Single handedly got the Sixers to the Finals. In HS he was an all state QB too and unlike Bryce Young I believe homeboy could have handled the NFL punishment. The " practice" interview was the iconic bit of the 2000's. Also Shaq, btw this podcast is up there with the Kelce's, was absolutely unstoppable force of nature and if Riley said that the powers that be should take his coaching/GM card away and burn it.

The current science confirms that stretching before exercise is not necessary. And the importance of rest for players who play a lot of minutes during the season is understood now, especially for 7 footers who put more stress on their joints like Shaq. So the irony is that AI and Shaq were right, and the expert opinion and old school coaching in the 90s was wrong.

100% on not stretching before exercise. I always just walk for like 5-10 minutes and that’s the best thing ever
@jakestine4753
@jakestine4753 8 ай бұрын
Stretching prior to warm ups is actually dangerous. Warming up is important. Don't just jump into sprints. Walk around a bit, get your heart rate up, THEN hit the sprints. Stretching? Only positive effect it has is help get your heart rate up, same as walking or light shoot-around. Stretching has no other benefit, and has risks because it can cause small tears in the muscle fibers that don't have a chance to heal before gametime. The ONLY good time to do stretching is AFTER the game - when your goal is to break up muscle scar tissues and generate blood flow to clear away lactic acids to aid in the recovery process.

Shaq “yeah I never stretched either” Chuck gonna have a field day with that comparison. 😂 PS. Let’s be honest tho. What could Shaq have done to Zo if he did have that kind of conditioning and could hit free throws? That was Kobe’s gripe. He has the size and ability to be the best ever, but settled with being below that….which is fine. He’s still a great, and as MJ said “their is a cost that comes with being the best”. Some gifted players realized what they had was enough and didn’t feel the need to sacrifice anything else…then there are others willing to sacrifice everything to be the best they can be. Some undersized under athletic guys had to train that hard just to make it into the league. That was their best….but Shaq’s best version of himself was limitless.

Shaq's point was the exercise and off season work to get shredded would have shotened his already limited career. 7ft tall humans put a lot of wear and tear on their bodies and rest is the only way to repair some of it.
