Hey guys, I realized that LEUCOMELA was incorrectly spelled on the front image tag. Don't know how that happened but I changed it and should be good to go now. Thank you for those that brought it to my attention.

there's actually an s on the end too, dendrobates leucomelas :P
@ianmckinney10533 жыл бұрын
It’s still wrong, it’s leucomelas regardless of singular or plural

Honestly this video just explained that bioactive vivariums have gotten more complex at home. This is awesome, I love all the potential for the best of the best healthy environments for these types of animals. Good job.

I was contemplating raising dart frogs in the new terrarium in my classroom, but I had no idea how to accomplish a healthy bioactive vivarium. Now that the 2 of you spoke nerdy to me, I am convinced this shall be my next pet project! Loved all the biology vocab y'all taught to your viewers too! 💯 A+

Great video guys! I've watched this a few times. One question I have is how many 6 quart bags of Hydrogrow v2 do I need for the 18x18x24 Frogs & Co tank? You had it already in the black bucket and didn't mention it. Thanks!
@mellewedin82212 жыл бұрын
The plants alone will also filter the water in the tank as well. I have been learning a lot about vivariums terrariums and such. Lol I think though I am going to go with a pack man frog. They seem less complicated to care for. I am not lazy, just never owned a land dwelling frog. I own and breed fully aquatic frogs. African Dwarf Frogs.
@reageerbuisje53913 жыл бұрын
Great tank! Although IMO you should try and cover the whole substrate in a nice thick layer of leaf litter, and no ground covering plants. Everyone has different ideas though!
@TheBioDudeJoshHalter3 жыл бұрын
Great idea. I do agree with you. I could have added more leaves on the base and not just mixed in.

I'am about to have 14 tad-poles kliming out of there water basket and they are standing in terrarium off 45 cm×45cm× 60 cm high. And I have only spagnum mos on the bottem. When I see your movie I think I do have to make a drainage layer. But your story is all in English. The baby frogs will be very tiny and get lost in those leafs. The are Dendrobate Auratus ElCope. Whit's layer's should be (on top) for this baby's ? ? Beginner have never had baby's going on land. I do have 2 little plants.❤❤

Needs way more leaf litter.
@TheBioDudeJoshHalter3 жыл бұрын
I should have more on the top, TBH! I mixed a bunch into the soil etc but you are right, the darts love a hearty layer on the top to create feeding opportunities and retreats.

is there anyway to use this type of terranium to capture fruit flys that may be in the house for the frogs to eat?
@TheBioDudeJoshHalter2 жыл бұрын
IF ONLY! what a good idea it would be to get rid of them lol ! there would be parasitic issues to worry about from the wild flies as a food source. There seems to be a few reasons as to why captive breeding works best with flightless fruit flies as a food source for the frogs.

Hey there, due to the dwarfs (also called claw toed frogs) being high carriers of the chytrid fungus, we avoid them as much as possible to minimize risk. it would be a good blog post idea!!! **adds claw toed frogs to blog list** lol - Support

so weird , mine Selaginella keeping dying off , dont they like humid set up ?
@TheBioDudeJoshHalter3 жыл бұрын
They need good airflow. They dry up = not enough moisture. They turn black and rot = not enough airflow/too much moisture. Its all in the balance : )

Email our customer care team and they can do their best to see if they can assist, but we always recommend having a relationship with a veterinarian that way when you have questions you have someone with an established relationship with your animal that can help you out. Either way, feel free to email us and we will do our best to help you out! CustomerCare@theBioDude.com
