I think she is better live personally because she writes her own lyrics and its so meaningful to her, so she can really convey the emotions with her expressions and inflections. Its a gift, truly. She's a theater kid at heart imo.
@melissad8078 күн бұрын
When you ask yourself "how do I know this song already?" --- that, to me, is part of the reason she is so successful. She writes songs that weasel into your brain whether you make active efforts to learn them or not.
@ZATennisFan8 күн бұрын
It's more than that. To me Taylor is one the most prolific writers of what I call "eternal songs" that I've ever heard. By eternal I mean that her best songs sound familiar the first time you hear them. It's like the song has always existed and Taylor discovered it, unearthed it and gifted it to the world. But going forward every time you listen to the song it's new and fresh. Then on top of that her best songs never lose their impact. You know what's coming, you prepare your defenses but the song slips past your defenses and pierces your soul again. Not many people can write those types of songs and almost nobody has done it as often as Taylor. She is able to tap into something both profoundly personal and universal at the same time.
@TheBlackSpeed7 күн бұрын
I think a lot of it too is that we have to give ourselves credit as well. I hear amazing writers all the time, it doesn't mean the song sticks with me. I think WE allow ourselves to be open to new things, new sounds, new ways of viewing music, and if it resonates and hit that sweet spot, there is nothing like it. I give Taylor credit for writing a song that resonated with me, but give myself credit that I allowed it to sit in my spirit. You know? We're just as impactful to her as she is to us. :) How I keep the power when it comes to artists that leave an impression on me haha.
@TopNotchWatcher878 күн бұрын
Yes, Taylor’s a master as her writing, but she has also become an amazing singer over the years IMO. She’s no Adele or Ariana, but her range, those low notes, how she sings, her grit, her emotions she uses with her singing more than make up for it.

All of Taylor’s songs sound good acoustic because that’s the way she writes them. Most of her songs are also better performed live because they switch up the production for the live shows and it’s usually 🔥. Because she writes all of her own songs they are all deeply personal to her. It’s why so much emotion comes through, and a big reason people connect to her music.

I’m a new Patreon subscriber and really enjoying your videos! So appreciate your positivity and willingness to expand your perspective on Taylor and her music! I suggest any of the Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions on Disney Plus are worth watching even if you’ve reacted to the originals. ESPECIALLY: This Is Me Trying and Epiphany…. the backstories mean everything to these songs. In all honesty, This Is Me Trying got me through the hardest year of my life before I was even a fan of Taylor at all. The lyrics cut deep and mean so much to so many for different reasons. That’s what’s amazing about Taylor’s ability to not only write introspective time capsules but also look outside herself and empathize with others’ struggles and validate feelings about so many different issues. She is an amazingly powerful artist. She really has proved throughout her career how much her fans mean to her. Even looking back to her earliest interviews, she’s always known what a priceless privilege her fame would be and has been, and she’s never once taken advantage of that selfishly. One thing I always like to ask my friends that haven’t explored her music history is have you ever heard one negative story about her interacting with a fan…? The answer has always been no. I’ve never heard of one negative interaction of her with a fan, which is saying something considering how many years she has been in the spotlight and stalked by paparazzis. She is a truly wonderful artist, and she has always been mature beyond her years.

I appreciate a musical artist's actual artistry more than their singing ability. Most of my favorite artists are not great singers by any traditional standards. I rarely hear comments about a man being a better songwriter than he is a singer or that he isn't a great dancer, such as the obvious examples of Bob Dylan, Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, Bruce Springsteen. I mean, I also get that those examples aren't pop stars while female pop stars are expected to be able to sing, dance, and be sexy instead of just being great artists in whatever way that manifests. That said, I love Taylor's voice and this performance is probably my favorite vocal from her.

There is generally a very big gap between what radio wants and what an already fan wants. If anyone isn’t familiar with stickiness, the tracking says that if a song is too different from what a station “normally plays” then listeners will leave the channel/station. The longer they stay the more money the radio station makes. A fan of the artist doesn’t care about that as much because they are likely to stay on the song regardless but radio stations appeal to the masses because that’s where their money is.

That, exactly! Her writing is really empathetic. And smart. She’s very humble for being as huge as she is and she seems to really want to learn about how to perform different genres without seeming like she’s trying too hard to be something she’s not. The live version is usually better because production usually cuts down on imperfections which humans love, and also usually has waaaay more effects which affects the levels and can almost sound more "one note". they need it to be "user friendly" so like... you wont see as many volume changes. Notice how in this version there are pretty large volume gaps, very soft then very dynamic, it really adds to the drama... but you dont want people scared in their cars 😂

I wanted to chime in with regard to your feelings on why artists often make a studio/radio version and then a live recording such as this one. They record an original version because they know it’s what the studio, stations, charts, expect and want. Mass market craves want they can produce and sell and they want the same quality shit as usual. So artists have blanket control over what is released and what it sounds like, until recently. With these live session albums give artist the opportunity to create unedited music, versions of their own songs how they feel they should be performed. Making the songs richer in sound, more personal in feeling, and truly authentic in production. The LPS album gave us an unfettered sense of what she wanted folklore to fully convey.

There are honestly too many songs that I would recommend for your next reaction sooo I'm gonna give you a mini list of my favourite live versions, in case you wanna see more of Taylor singing live: - Out of the woods, I knew you were trouble, I know places - from the 1989 tour - I did something bad, Ready for it?, Don't blame me - from the reputation tour - Cornelia street, Death by a thousand cuts - live from Paris (also anything from the Eras tour but I'm trying to keep the list short 😭) Loving your reactions, thank you!

On all the long pond2 session songs she does a little interview before each performance explaining the writing process of that song

Once again, love how honest you are with your opinions - I feel like a lot of reactors try to be less honest for the sake of the views and their subscribers. Also your voice is so clean, that mic is insane.

Ok, but there’s a longer version of this where she talks about her songwriting process before singing. Still long pond sessions!!!

Thank you! I obviously have preferences, but to be honest, I don't give a rats ass which of Taylor's songs you do, but I absolutely suggest you choose live versions where possible, her Tiny Desk acoustic set is ace, as is her Grammy Museum set from 2015. Seeing her sing them as she wrote them (acoustically, on guitar, piano [or banjo] you get to see her emotions, she has a very expressive face and watching her "tell her own lyrical stories" adds another dimension. Now I'm waffling. You know what I mean. All the Long Pond sessions are definitely worth watching. Christmas love from Annie, in Cornwall (‘cos I live here)🙂🌸🎄

Enjoyed this reaction as well. I gave my recommendation on the video. I can’t honestly think of a song I dislike by her, just varying degrees of emotional connection. Glad your videos are doing well and also enjoyed your sample!

I was thinking you should do a review of Shaboozey’s “Good News”. It has the deeper, emotional lyrics that you seem to like and a wonderful melody.

You must react to the long pond session of Taylor singing the song Exile it's so good. Sounds so much better then the cd the way they do it in the session is so much better .

Your intros are just perfect. People are stupid. Taylor’s gift is the power to deliver a performance that connects with the audience and makes it feel safe to feel whatever it makes you feel. There are so many singer songwriters out there who are not considered power vocalists but they are loved and respected. I don’t know why people endlessly attack Taylor for not being Adele or Mariah when she has never pretended to be that kind of singer.

Haha I appreciate the nice words. I don't have any plans on changing who I am lol. So thank you. And yeah, no reason for Taylor to be anyone but herself. Her style is what got here where she was. It works.

Heyo! ☺️ I gained a lot more respect for Taylor after Folklore. I love the album. Def a fav. I know a ton of Swifties here were asking for the Long Pond Sessions, and though they are beautiful, a ton of the tracks on the album are already mellow (chill) when you're comparing former tracks so for me - I prefer the studio versions of Folklore. I'd love for you to do a vid listening to the studio version of Mad Woman. It's one of my all time favorite Taylor songs! 🔥 I adoooooore the part where she sings, "And women like hunting witches, too. Doing your dirtiest work for you. It's obvious that wanting me dead has really brought you two together .." You really feel the angst lol. The Cassandra, Mad Woman & I Did Something Bad mashup on the eras tour was EPIC!!!!

Great reaction! Since you loved seven so much, I highly recommend listening to the long pond studios version of it. Just for yourself even if you don’t want to do a reaction. It’s not everybody’s favorite, but since you liked the sax in False God, you might like the horns in Forever Winter. It has a very different overall vibe than False God though. Happy instrumental with sad lyrics instead of sexy. Outside of Taylor, anything by RAYE, Kelly Clarkson, or Faouzia would be great. CHEMO was very good. Thank you for being vulnerable with your listeners, I know that couldn’t have been easy.
@TheBlackSpeed6 күн бұрын
I really appreciate your suggestions and I definitely plan on doing more of course. :) And thank you for the Chemo love. I really appreciate that, and I'm glad you respected and liked it. It wasn't easy, but important I felt.

I think her acoustic versions are better because so many of her songs are lyrical masterpieces and many tell stories. It’s just easier to pay attention to those things without a bunch of production. With Tortured Poets, the lyric videos are almost necessary… the songs contain so many metaphors, double and triple meanings, hell, she even has references to Greek Mythology (the song “Cassandra”, about the faux Christianity and hypocrisy of the Kardashians), and ancient poetry (“The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner” in the song, “The Albatross”). That album gets better w each listen… she wrote it when she wanted to run away from everything (“Florida!”) was sad about the end of a long relationship, pissed off at a toxic rebound (for being toxic haha) that ghosted her when there was public criticism, pissed at the media and even some of her fans for the way she’s judged for every move. There’s a lot of emotion there, expressed in an impressive display of songwriting. The production on that album adds to the emotion. I’d definitely join your Patreon if you do more/longer Taylor reactions there!

I appreciate the connections and context! I get a lot of that haha but it's always helpful. And yes, I'm still learning and growing the Patreon, so we'll figure that out together on this journey. I already have the uncut, raw Taylor swift stream on there and I'll be adding more videos earlier than KZbin as time goes on!
