I'm not one for leaving long posts but: The guy was misdiagnosed for over 10 years, and told it was all in his head. He was given all sorts of serious drugs, antipsychotics, antidepressants etc, only to finally find out he had lymes disease. Usually if you get to it early you can fully recover with antibiotics. But for him it was to late, it caused chronic pain, auto immunity and brain damage. He's had stem cell replacements, a restricted diet, and is still getting on going treatment. A very sad story. Now a lot of his music is giving others with chronic illnesses hope and understanding. After 15 years of making music he's finally blowing up thanks to this song. Record labels now knocking on his door but turned them down and continues to be independent. He makes 90% of everything himself, the lyrics, beats, production, video ideas etc. A true inspiration.

Here is some additional information on Ren's story that I gathered from old newspaper interviews, articles, and Ren's public livestreams and posts. A handful of people frequently post an earlier version of my comment to various reactions that they copied and pasted verbatim, so if this is a repeat just ignore this comment. I keep editing the information, as needed, and have removed details about Ren that some found to be too personal, such as his full name and D.O.B. All the information here was gathered exclusively from sources Ren personally approved for public release. Ren is a Welsh musician/independent artist/producer, self-taught multi-instrumentalist. He pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, Ren began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures, which eventually caused him to discontinue his studies and return home. In addition, Ren was signed by Sony Records in 2010 and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point that he was unable to go on; consequently, his contract with Sony was dissolved. Ren would later relocate to Brighton. Ren's illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours daily. Ren was initially misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which led him to experience psychosis and develop PTSD. It would take seven years before a doctor in Belgium finally correctly diagnosed Ren with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and resulting damage to the brain, organs, joints, and PTSD. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure. Ren is in Calgary, Canada for at least six months (Summer of 2023), undergoing treatments such as IV therapy and other interventions five days a week, as well as surgeries (wisdom tooth removal and cavitation surgery). His Canadian doctor discovered that Ren also developed a condition called Mast Cell Activation Disorder (MCAD), which has affected the myelin sheath in his brain, his thyroid, and adrenals as well as his bones/joints. Hence, Ren is receiving additional treatments for this previously undiagnosed condition. He recently took a break from treatments and returned to the UK to visit family and friends, and to produce some very ambitious musical projects to be released soon. Let's keep supporting Ren as he undergoes his treatments. Check out and subscribe to his channel; if you are a content creator, ask your audience to subscribe to Ren. Ren's YT channel just surpassed 1 million subscribers. and his videos have garnered millions and millions of views. Listen to some of his earlier work, like and comment on his performances, and let's lift Ren's spirits. If you are a believer, pray for him. Ren is an artist with something to say to the world, and his work is important in these troubling times. Someone has finally created a Wikipedia page for Ren, so there is additional information available.

Love watching people hearing Hi Ren for the first time. At the start of the song they have the same look as you did, but they are soon totally engulfed in the “Ren Affect.” The songs he writes are all pretty deep but I feel weird calling them just songs because they are more like a journey. Next I would suggest The Story of Jenny and Screech, it’s also very powerful. This and his song Suicide hit deepest with me as someone who struggles with PTSD, Depression and Suicidal Ideation since becoming a quadriplegic. You have started a journey that is emotional, healing and occasionally you will get a smile from some of REN’s Music. #RENegade

@@TheBlackSpeed This was the UK so it was not about money. Unfortunately the health system failed him over here where they just said: nothing is wrong with you. Here is the cons of a public system: it costs money so they have to be sure there is something wrong to order a test. In a private system its profit and greed so its just the rich and people who have insurance that can obtain this whenever they request it. The lad spent one year in bed as he couldn't move. They guy was desperate for anything that could help. Tried everything. The pain was so much that he ended up getting proper psychosis. He kept going for 7 years before finally hearing about something that had similar symptoms and got on a plane to Belgium from the UK, told the doctor everything and he was like "we will run the tests but i can guarantee this is Lyme disease. So then when he had hope he realised that unless you catch it early it messes up your body and brain. So his memory is trash apart from if its song. There was experimental treatments in Canada and he had a health blog that he made as he didn't think he would be alive much longer and wanted to leave something behind that might raise awareness and some kind of legacy. One of the Canadian scientist leaders of the experimental treatment saw the blog and told him if you can get to Canada we will give you it for free the first time to see if it helps. He did and it did and he is still in treatment. He will not be able to tour ever as he will live with some form of difficulty forever. This is to make his life at least liveable. It hurts in my gut to think that to get this amazing genuine person who is so talented, he had to go through the worst life. I believe no one else would have held on through what this artist went through. - btw i found all this out by watching reaction videos and interviews. Only found out about him through the Hi Ren song yesterday. This song will be used for mental health to educate (build support) and to help people going through it (not alone).

@Meyliassa Жыл бұрын
The sad part is that there *is* a cure for Lyme, a basic course of antibiotics can cure it when it's caught early enough (within a few weeks to couple months of infection). The longer it goes on untreated the more it devastates the body and immune system. And as long as Ren went undiagnosed and untreated, its now done far too much damage and can only be managed/treated. And most of the management at this point is not for the Lyme itself but for the secondary damage that was done to his body from the autoimmunity that Lyme causes.

I wrote this introduction to Ren as well as some background information when I first discovered him earlier this year, as there wasn't a Wikipedia entry for people to look him up prior to March 2023. I have posted this info to every "Hi Ren" reaction I have come across since, and I hope it will be of some use to the uninitiated. Ren is a Welsh independent artist/singer/songwriter/busker/producer, living in Brighton, UK. He plays multiple instruments (acoustic, electric, and bass guitar, piano, melodica, drums), has impressive vocals, beatboxes, produces all his own beats, is an excellent storyteller, and is quite the philosopher and poet. He is considered by many a modern-day bard; he calls his music "bardcore." Ren's music videos are frequently recorded live, often in a single take, although not necessarily the first take, and from various camera angles. In the case of "Hi Ren," it took four takes, all live in the room, to get the footage he wanted. Someone commented that Samuel Perry-Falvey who filmed "Hi Ren," talks about the production of the video in the comments of Jonathan Hiller's (Filmmaker Reacts) reaction to the song. According to him, this video footage is not a one-take per se, but the audio was recorded live in a single take. Ren's release, "Sick Boi," is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren" and appears to have been filmed in the same room. "Hi Ren" is the song that put Ren on everyone's radar since December; it went viral and has garnered over 18 million views since its debut. Ren recently released a video of an older live stage performance of “Hi Ren;” it is worth checking out. However, Ren has been creating great music for more than ten years. Many of Ren's songs resonate with people because he addresses struggles that many others face every day. Ren's earliest recordings on KZbin are from his time in a band called "Trick The Fox," consisting of Ren and his buddies Charlie and Tommy. Unfortunately, the band performed only briefly due to Ren's onset of health issues. They are very talented. A fun clip to watch is "The Mash Up." Here is the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJDcc4OheL5phc0 Ren's trilogy "The Tale of Jenny/Screech/Violet" has been likened to a Shakespearean tragedy and is a prime example of his genius; it is a master's class in storytelling and also showcases his guitar skills. The three acts are haunting, and the conclusion will catch you off guard. The trilogy needs to be watched in the order given, as this is the flow of the storyline and is best watched as a whole rather than piecemeal. Ren's Hip Hop/Rap style songs are worth checking out if you enjoy this genre; unfortunately, sexual innuendos are pervasive in hip-hop and rap, and Ren makes such references in several of his songs. Check out "The Hunger," "Genesis," "What You Want," "Losing It (FISHER rap retake)," "Right Here, Right Now (Fatboy Slim one shot retake)," "Life is Funny," "Love Music (Parts 1, 2, 3, and 4)," "Crucify Your Culture," "Power," "Hold On," his recent release, “Down On The Beat (feat. Viktus),” and his latest song, “Masochist,” just to name a few. Ren's collaborations with Chinchilla ("Chalk Outlines," "How to Be Me," "Sexual Healing," "One Dance/Drunk in Love") are beautiful and showcase his singing voice. His live music videos are especially impressive. Ren's personal reflections are threaded through many of his songs; "Insomnia," "Depression," "Diazepam," "Penitence," "Dear God," "Heretic," "Dominos," his "Freckled Angels" album, in particular his song "Fire," just to name a few, all deserve a listen. His song "Money Game" (Part I & II) is another recommendation, although it is less of a personal song than it is an indictment of greed and the resulting injustices in this world. Ren is about to shoot "Money Game Part III." Ren's performances with Sam Tompkins ("Blind Eyed," "Earned It /Mans World / Falling," "Walking on the Moon/No Diggity," "Feeling Good/Trouble So High/Masterblaster (Jammin')," "Latch," "Wild Thoughts/Crazy in love (Live Session)," "Same Old Situation (Live, feat. Ren)," "Improvising Around Stevie Wonder," "Live in the Streets of Brighton, UK," "What Went Wrong" Part I&II) are definitely a must. Also, his collaborations with Eden Nash ("Humble," "Ocean"), Bibi ("Crutch," "Ahiahiaoha"), Molly McKinna ("Penitence"), Orlean ("Jessica"), his former bandmate Romain Axisa ("French Song"), are all great. Last but not least, Ren's busking sessions with Liv Sangster are awesome. I recently discovered that Ren also recorded a cover of "Can't Help Falling In Love (Elvis Cover)," which is simply beautiful. "The Big Push" (Ren Gill, Gorran Kendall, Romain Axisa, and Glen Chambers) busking sessions, concerts, and live recordings all are amazing and well worth checking out. All but the drummer sing lead vocals at times. Ren, Gorran, and Romain all play multiple instruments. Ren plays acoustic, electric, and bass guitar, piano, and drums. Gorran plays acoustic, electric, bass guitar, and harmonica. Romain plays acoustic, electric, bass guitar, ukulele, and piano. They are each incredibly gifted artists, and their solo work is completely different from each other. Well worth checking out. Their covers of "I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop," "Wade in the Water/Nina Simone/Trouble So Hard," "War Pigs," "Roadhouse Blues," "My Generation," "Paint It Black," "An Englishman in New York," "Bongo Bong" are excellent. On "These Boots Are Made For Walking'/Satisfaction/Everybody," "Praise You" (Fatboy Slim Cover), and "What Kind Of Woman Is This," all three take a turn singing. The songs "Oh My Woman," "Swan Song," "Sweet Little Lady," "It's Alright," "Dignity," "Watch Out," and so many others are equally impressive. The band, at least for the time being, performed their last official busking session and gave their last concert in September of last year (2022) due to the fact that Ren was leaving for Canada to undergo specialized medical care and surgeries for his multiple health issues. In anticipation of his stay in Canada, Ren prepared some music ahead of time to be released during the time he expects to be gone. He released "Sick Boi," "Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve retake)," which is another masterful work, "Illest Of Our Time," and "Animal Flow," which is out now in two versions, a full-production music video, and a live, one-take acoustic version. Ren also premiered the official music video of his song “Murderer,” and followed it up with a newly recorded acoustic live version that is phenomenal and my favorite of the two versions. His release, “Love Music Part 4” and “Masochist” recently came out, and his newest release, “Lost All Faith,” just premiered. Ren’s “Money Game Part 3” will be released soon, and his new album is due out October 13th, if I am not mistaken. Ren's recent release, "Su!cIde," was difficult to watch for me to the point that I was not able to watch or listen to it again for a long time. I was not even able to watch a single reaction to it. It is a sad, haunting, gut-wrenching tribute to Ren's friend Joe who took his own life. Ren’s follow-up to “Su!cIde,” "For Joe," is also sad and emotional, but strangely enough, it has had a healing effect on me and has given me a sense of closure. Even the lyrics that "gutted" me in "Su!cIde" that are repeated in “For Joe” impacted me differently this time around, and I am now able to listen to both songs without completely breaking down.

From Location and Video Directing Worthy of Tarantino or Spielberg, to Lyrics Shakespeare would have been Proud to have Written, To an Emotional Performance on par with Marlon Brando or Morgan Freeman and the Musical Prowess of Jimmy Page or Eric Clapton and the Vocal Chops of Robert Plant or M&M! He can reach right through the Camera and Grab the Soul of his Audience and hold it in the Palm of his Hand! Ren really does have it all!

Trust me, I've gotten more backstory on him than I think I have on my own childhood, I'm good! Lmao. But this was really sweet. I hope you come back too and we are definitely going to do a Live one day! Mark my words.

I really loved your reaction to this gem! You seem like an introspective, thoughtful kind of guy, which likely means you are in for an enjoyable ride with Ren! I haven't looked at the other comments yet but I'm sure everyone will tell you that he has a very loyal fan base. I imagine, like me, many will subscribe to see you go down the Ren rabbit hole. They'll tell you that he is extremely talented - he can sing, rap, act, and beatbox. He is a storyteller, a poet, a lyricist, and a multi-instrumentalist. He makes his own beats and produces his own music. He is witty and bright while being deep and kind of dark. He is not afraid to bare his soul and show vulnerability. His music reflects all of that and there is something for absolutely everyone. You never really know what to expect from him which is a good part of the fun. He was ill, in pain, and suffering for many years until he was finally accurately diagnosed with Lyme Disease. He had stem cell transplants that helped him a lot but still suffers the long term effects of the damage Lyme Disease did over the years he was misdiagnosed. He has been in Canada for treatment for months. There are some great Ren interviews on KZbin with Black Pegasus, Justin Hawkins and Knox Hill. You can learn a lot more about him by listening to them. I'm excited for you - enjoy the trip!

He has had adhd, bipolar, and chronic fatigue diagnosis (or misdiagnoses)over the years, along with pharmaceutical treatments for those and on top of the side effects from those treatments, he suffered years of misdiagnosed and so, untreated, Lyme disease (autoimmune disease spread via tick vector) in his late teens and early 20s with intense pain and inability to eat much at all. During those years he had some psychotic episodes. Several years ago he finally was correctly diagnosed and treated for Lyme Disease and began to have more windows of feeling functional. The years of untreated autoimmune response, with his body attacking itself, have left him with a lot of residual damage (including Mast Cell Activation Disorder and PTSD), to his mind/body and he is continuing treatments for those, most recently in Canada. His talents are varied, and range from producing tracks, directing video’s, writing/acting/performing/singing/rapping/beat boxing in his video’s to playing guitar, bass, and piano.

Ren was born in 1990 in Wales, UK and currently lives Brighton in the south of England. Presently though, he is in Canada receiving treatment. He is a multi instrument musician, songwriter, singer, rapper and poet who covers multiple styles and genres. What's remarkable about this song 'Hi Ren' is that it was recorded in one take and played live using several cameras, then the 'views' edited later. He said it was done over three days with rehearsals (including the flashing lights and camera angles etc.) and getting the one take he was happy with. He contracted lime disease when younger and was misdiagnosed for a number of years. He got brain damage caused by the lime disease and not helped by the wrong drugs administered. He suffered mental illness as well as his physical sickness due to this (this is also why his distrust for the medical world). Originally signed to Sony records who dropped him when they found out about the lime disease, and because he could only write songs, performed and recorded when he was able (no money for them in that I suppose?). As far as I am aware, he is now a self published artist and has his first album is due out soon. He was with a band a few years back (The Big Push) and has a few duets with Chinchilla and some other collaborations all very much worth a listen - especially some of the live street performances. He has done quite a lot of interviews with a number of KZbin channels (mostly reaction channels such as your!). He is articulate, intelligent, yet quite down to earth and humble - an all round nice guy to listen to!

He was one of the rare few people who contracted Lyme Disease from a tick in the UK. Because it was years ago and so rare there, he was misdiagnosed over and over. Lyme Disease can cause significant neurological damage, leading to a lot of his symptoms. He found a specialist in another country, got an appt, told them everything, and was finally correctly diagnosed. He’s now been in Canada receiving LOTS of treatments and is starting to make some progress. He’s an absolutely brilliant writer and musician. When I watch him I feel like I’ve just sat through a 2hr movie rather than a 5-10 min music video. He transports you. Try the trilogy of Jenny and Screech along with Violet’s tale. Like and subscribe, and pre order his Sic boi album now, which is coming out in a few weeks (no, I'm not his manager, just an appreciative fan.

Yeah someone else told me that that he's a big fan and supporter of reactors and I think that's just amazing. The one day in life I can monetize videos, I'd be happy to do it with his songs, especially with you all there! We all get to eat. :) I'm going to have to look up his feelings on reactors, I love that attitude. And yeah I had a feeling it was one-take! That is just damn impressive. He really is an amazing talent, artist, and person.

My recommendation to check out with Ren is literally everything. I''ve been on this train since last March now and have listened to most of his stuff and in that time I've heard one song that I wasn't all that keen on (Love Music 4), not saying it was bad, it just wasn't for me. Everything else I absolutely and wholeheartedly love. Enjoy the journey. Oh and wait until through Ren you also discover artists like Chinchilla, The Big Push, Sam Tomkins and many other super talented people he surrounds himself with, it's an absolutely mind blowing well of creativity and musical ability.

He isn't mentally ill. He had Lymes disease which was misdiagnosed for years as mental illness. He was forced into over medication which causes psychosis in and of itself. Of the one thing I would tell you about Ren is his heart, his honor and his deep caring for other people. I think a great example is his King Dota dis comeback. Watch that and you will see who Ren is.

I have been listening to Ren for months and had a random one pop up on my playlist, Dear God. The lyrics went past my brain straight to my heart and I stood there bawling until someone came into the room and I came back to 'reality'. There is something really special about Ren.

Wow a cool reaction!!! The RENegades I see are here already!!! Jens comment already gives u the background of Ren which sums things up perfectly. Keep going and react to sick boi as it sort of follows Hi Ren. Do a livestream Renathon, give people some warning and I'm sure a few will come in the chat to take u on the journey!! The guy is immensely talented, his songs have meanings, references, some are sad, some are funny, some spread across 2,3,4 genres, some he sings and some he raps. It's a rollercoaster nothing sounds like a previous song. Another new sub here

Jesus. Christ. Hahaha. They definitely are. And I'm loving it and here for it. I won't be able to respond to comments for the first time ever at this rate haha. Sick Boi will 100% be next so thanks for that. And that's not a bad idea at all! Maybe I should do my reacts first and go on my own personal journey, and then go through them all in one sitting and have that 'Renathon'? Haha that could be kind of cool! Really appreciate you being here, Malcolm!

This is just a tiny glimpse into the Juggernaut of Diverse Talent that is REN! Prepare to be blown away each and every time. Yes, some of his work is self referential, but lots not. He is a master lyricist, a composer, actor, script writer, producer, singer, guitarist and so much more. He has also put the 'Bard' firmly and uniquely into Bardcore. At core Ren is a powerful storey-teller and social commentator. Enjoy your 'Renification'! 😊

Always love finding a reactor that has a small channel and finds Ren's music and does the reaction because it was requested and they have no idea what they are going to find. Subbed for the Ren Rollercoaster! You will find other amazing artists the more Ren you listen to and Ren's fanbase is loyal and support anyone helping to spread his music. Liked your reaction and that you really paid attention. A lot of Ren's music has a lot of deep meaning and the first rapper that I've heard do quadruple entendres and possibly even 6 meanings in 11 words. Anything you choose from Ren is worth listening to. The tales (Jenny, Screech and Violet) are the only ones we will want done in a specific order, preferably in 1 reaction.

Probably mentioned in ten or twenty other comments, but yours is the first I've seen to cue him in on The Tales. TY! Also, for Money Game: It's the live video Money Game 1, the LYRIC video for Money Game 2. And sooooo excited for Money Game 3! If Ren's impressed with it, you know it's gonna knock some socks off.

This song is one of Ren's musical masterpieces! It's a brilliant performance and means different things to everyone! For me it's about the internal struggle between our positive and negative selves, and acceptance of both! This song was an awakening for me, a renewal and it opened my mind and heart! It also renewed my love of music because of the artistic way this was presented, along with Ren's rap, vocals, musical skills and how he shared intimate details about his own struggles! Enjoy your Ren journey as you discover a wealth of music and talent as well as a wonderful humanitarian and spokesperson! I'm a big fan, and can't wait for his new album Sic Boi to come out in October 😊🎉

There are three channels to find his work. Obviously the Ren channel where you will find most things, including the tracks on his album, Sick boi out in October. Then there is The Big Push, that is the band he was in until recently, they do some original stuff plus wonderful covers, and busking (Street performances). Lastly there is Trick The Fox, this was the band he was in 12 years ago when his illness halted his career just as he was starting out. There is more very powerful stuff, but there is also joyous fun stuff too.

The first time I saw this, I saw it as more of a "performance art" piece, or micro "opera" kind of performance. It is absolutely LOADED with emotion, and thought provoking lyricism. The whole sequence with "Some people know me as hope. Some people know me as the voice that you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope" is in, and of itself , such strong mental imagery. And the part where he says " I was made to be tested and twisted...I was made to be broken and beat...I was made by his hand, it's all part of his plan, that I stand on my own two feet." Is such a commentary on faith, and perseverance, in the face of adversity. His talent, and life experience is made evident through his choice of words. He suffers from lime disease which affects the immune system, and causes extreme fatigue, and frequently a great deal of pain. But the major problem was that he was misdiagnosed for a long time, and wasn't getting the treatment he needed which took it's toll on his mental health. His perseverance has brought him to the place he is today, fighting the darkness, and negativity inside, enabling him to bring us this heartfelt, honest, visceral look into his struggle with his own inner demons, and the, often persuasive, voices that we ALL hear telling us that we're not good enough, and we should just give up. I became an instant fan. So many emotions.😂😢😮😭🤟😎❤️

Welcome to the multitalented genius that is Ren ❤ This masterpiece is just the tip of the iceberg, my friend. Ren is a singer, songwriter, rapper, multi instrumentalist, producer, beatboxer, director, storyteller, and an inspiration bringing hope to people in the darkness. I trust that other #RENegades have filled you in on his background and probably recommend following this up with Sick Boi to get a better insight into his frustrating journey with his health issues. I will add a suggestion for one of my personal favourites: Crutch feat. Bibi. It’s an older song from before he finally got correctly diagnosed and was written after a breakdown following multiple emergency trips to the hospital. It is heart wrenching but absolutely stunning. Some other favourites that I highly recommend are The Hunger, Illest of Our Time, Lost All Faith, and Heretic. Honestly though there are no bad picks. Nothing but greatness from this man. Hope to see you deep down the Ren rabbit hole with the rest of us 🐰🕳️

This was wonderful! Ren fans are rabid soooo welcome! I’m happy to see you’ve reacted to Sick Boi. Hope to see you react to The Tale of Jenny and Screech which is 3 songs but is best viewed in one go because it’s an interconnected performance. Ren is musically and lyrically wonderful, he is also an excellent performer which I feel like you can tell from this video but The Tale of Jenny and Screech feels like the perfect encapsulation of all the things I like about him. I’d also love to see you react to his duet with Chinchilla called Chalk Outlines. I’m sure you’ve been told many times by now that he performs all his music videos live. Lastly, I’m autistic so I really appreciated what you said about your child. Sometimes it’s just a case of attuning to the rhythm of a person and realising we’re more similar than you might think.
