Do you have to use the tuning slides when you play this scale?

It helps with better intonation. The more you practice using the slide on things like scales and arpeggios, the more it'll become second-nature to use the slide while you play actual music.

Tuning slide have always been apart of the trumpet since I started. The 1st and 3rd valve tuning slide make playing in tune a lot easier so we don’t have to physically “lip” certain notes…thus reserving more energy to play trumpet with less effort.

You can do two things: 1. Learn how to reserve the air that you use. One way to do this is to play softer. 2. Strategically place where you’re going to breathe in the music so that your breath doesn’t interrupt the flow of the musical phrase.

A trumpet is tuned to Concert Bb, so a C major scale on a trumpet would have to be transposed to Bb flat in order for the pitches to be the same on say a guitar or piano (which are both tuned to a Concert C).
