FROM CROATIA: Dear, I lack sufficient words to express my enthusiasm for the information on your channel, nor do I have enough gratitude. The quality of the video and your presentation is truly the best I could find, and for that, I congratulate you. I have worked in the education system for almost 30 years as a teacher and as a principal, I have a PhD in pedagogy, but I have rarely met someone who coordinates all the performance details so well. I have similar visual difficulties as you described in your case, and therefore, I am thrilled with the aids you represent, especially with the Envision Glasses (although I also like the Aceseidhe VR from Zoomax, where language is not important to me). I am interested in whether there is support for other languages in Envision Glasses, besides English, for example, the Croatian language? With utmost respect, Marijan Madunić

Hi Sam, I'm incredibly grateful you are able to learn how to use different technologies like this so you can share different devices for us like this. Since I've lost so much vision, I've also experienced some impairment of my cognitive abilities and I am still learning how that has fallen out for me. I'm also still getting used to how much slower using adaptive tech is compared to just having vision. Sigh. Sounds like for my level of vision, I'm still best off using the OR Cam I got after a lot of thought. I'm also part of a peer support group for my region that meet twice a month online, and I have mentioned your channel a couple of times already. :) We are in Canada, but so much of your info is relevant to us. Sounds like this device, the Google glass one, still has a ways to go to be reliable enough in all situations. I'm not a fan of the need for wi fi or a hotspot.

@@JazzyCat007 I have owned and OrCam read for approximately one year now and have found it quite useful and effective. As far as the durability is concerned, I have dropped it a few times but it has not seem to be any worse for the wear. It still works fine. It takes a little bit of adaptation or time to get used to using it properly but it’s not that difficult at all. Overall, though it seems a little flimsy. It is actually fairly tough. Of course, anything can happen to any piece of equipment but for the most part I have had no real difficulties with it. I did have initially some problem getting it to connect to Wi-Fi but I’m told that it has been made much more easy with the current software updates. Again, I think that you will find it quite useful especially if you have someone train you with it initially. If anyone has any more questions, please post them here and as a user of the OrCam I will definitely try to answer them.

Nice review Sam. Informative as usual. I have been very interested in the glasses for sometime. However, I don't think the features justify the price since the app performs the same functions as the app. I would like a feature that would better describe a scene as I am out wandering around streets. I occasionally get turned around on walks and it would be great if it could sync with google maps that can assist with getting around. Also I'd like it to help identify cars, bikes, and people and dogs walking by me on walks. I've had some close calls while crossing the street as I can't always hear a car.
@LUMENMK2 жыл бұрын
The app is actually more functional, as your phone is always online. The glasses are notoriously of-line when you need them the most. Making a hotspot out of your phone is not a reliable solution, because your phone can decide on it’s own to shut down internet access for the device.

I don’t know if this helps Julia. I have The or Kim. This device seems to me does a lot more. It finds objects. Also has an object Explora I don’t know exactly how good that works but it seems to me this device has more features. I do like The or Kim but sometimes I get disappointed when it only describes maybe tables chairs in the door and that’s it. Also I think this device researching it has a wider lens it’ll read text better. I’m going to get this device and try it out for 30 days you have it free for 30 days and then you have to either send it back or buy it. I don’t have to have something that reads better but also going outside if it knew there was a car in front of me besides my having my cane this would be great or going somewhere it seems like it describes people even better than the oar camp does.

Thanks for the review Sam, I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on the envision glasses vs. the Orcam glasses. They seem to be really similar in many ways.
@macadamiaowl97023 жыл бұрын
I have both: Envision Glasses are having 2x battery life and faster charging, lower price, more languages, video calling, more updates 1 every month, you get app Envision too, you can export text, call your Ally a support person, there's scene description and handwriting recognition - you don't have this with OrCam. It's light rain resistant but not waterproof! With Smith Optics Frames you can put on custom lenses but they cost 300$ extra still feel cheap plastic sadly no other options. I wish they could build in SIM card slot or eSIM that would resolve connection issues, i don't want to kill my phone battery to use it as hotspot or buy extra little modem and data plan for Glasses only :/ OrCam can be placed on almost on any glasses and any side you prefer. It has full offline functionality, much better text people recognition accuracy but it's limited to only 3 predefined languages you can't switch or choose - it's defined by region you buy it. Battery life is max 2 hours, it's smaller, more comfortable, performs much better in low light and has LED light which it can use automatically if needed - Envision Glasses sadly don't have no light if there's to dark they won't work they won't even warn you it's too dark. OrCam is bit more polished: tells you if you're holding text upside down, if some text was unrecognized and where, tells you how to fix it by moving your head to right position or text and guides you with that. It has Point with Finger for fine navigation what you point it will be read to you. It's drizzle resistant but not water resistant.

As a blind person, I could see a lot of drawbacks with the device. It takes a while for it to be able to identify things with peeping and recognition. I’m hoping in the future they have something that will be more direct. Another words tell you instantly what’s in front of you and then the fact that you you had to be on a Wi-Fi that I was so it’s another deterrent to it and it is expensive so But you know for some people it might work I don’t think it would work for me though as a blind person

You do you wear glasses when they don’t help you see I understand the adaptive technology glasses are important but, why the prescription eyeglasses?
@macadamiaowl97023 жыл бұрын
Or sunglasses if you're too sensitive to light. There's option without lenses too. The advantage: you have both hands free to use walking with cane, cooking, doing any activity requiring one or both hands. Glasses/frames are sitting nicely on head no need to hold anything. There will be voice commands in future. When using phone both hands are needed to hold, point and swipe and other complex gestures even while shopping it's much nicer with those Glasses. Now i have shopping bag a purse in one hand, a white cane in other - add a smartphone to that! That would be so uncomfortable! Yes i can take shopping cart but i will bump with it onto many stuff and people. Not always i can ask someone to assist with shopping.

@@Hannahorse715 Sam's not completely blind, he's legally blind. He has a large blind spot in his central vision but does have some usable peripheral vision. Sam doesn't usually wear glasses actually, but he does own a pair because he has astigmatism. So he does use glasses from time to time.

@@ikylilgrl oh I see thanks for clarifying that matter for me I have bad astigmatisms as well that’s all I have but, I wear my glasses all the time except for doing close up things

@theblindlife3 жыл бұрын
I’m pretty sure that most of them do. You would just need to consult the manufacturer to find out if the particular device you’re interested in would support that language.

Not everyone has unlimited hotspot on their phone and this can be a bad thing? The other thing is that spending so much money on these it's nice that you can call your family or friends but it would be nice if you could connect these glasses with Aira and Be My Eyes services as well not only in your home but in the real wide world? They need to since the glasses are app-based it would be nice if they could make it so the app that runs the glasses could use your phone's internet connection or your phone's LTE or phone signal like other apps would use? A big one would be that the glasses neeeeeeeeeeed to be so much cheaper in price??? That is very high priced for something that you can't work in a real-world situation without wifi? I do wear glasses and it would be nice if there was a special bracket that could connect to my glasses so I wouldn't need to purchase frames that I will have to go and get new lenses fitted to just to end up spending more money than I don't already have to begin with? These are nice but I think that there need to be some major improvements? I do have some eye vision but there are some things where it would be nice to find where dropoffs are and to help locate curb-cuts and sometimes find the traffic light color and or the walk signal etc. Reading the headers on trains and buses and other things like would be helpful with these glasses? There are some areas that are painted with the hashtags showing that there is a ramp in an ADA parking spot but sometimes there is not a ramp off of a sidewalk but a dropoff instead. If these glasses could detect things like that and could help tell people where the real ramp is and how steep it is that would help me out the most? Now I do use a pair of wireless headphones and it would be nice if the glasses could connect to my phone and the sound could go over my pair of headphones so I don't have to switch headphones to use this device? It almost sounds like the same app that runs these glasses is the Seeing AI and that app is worthless. It was telling me on my phone that my CPAP was a car when there was no car in the shot real or fake or a toy etc?

Sure, it's nice to have it on your glasses, but $2500 for functions that basically any smartphone is capable of?
@HOYSINSATION3 жыл бұрын
The thing I hate about these is that they are only for the right eye. I'm blind in my right eye so a potentially helpful piece of technology is worthless for me just because you cant switch sides
@ikylilgrl3 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's really for a certain eye. It's not magnifying anything for you. It's reading things out loud, so it doesn't if you're totally blind or blind In one eye.
@theblindlife3 жыл бұрын
It only displays basic information on the screen, what menu you’re in, etc. As I said in the video, I can’t see the screen either. But it doesn’t matter because everything is read out loud to you.

you americans still use cash? Here in Canada hardly anyone uses cash it's mostly credit or debit cards in all the stores and shops I have walked into for the past year during the pandemic. personally, these glasses are way over-priced for what they do. It would be easier to just use my iPhone and run these functions on it. Thank you for the review!
