This film is a beauty. Kids today simply have no idea how great it was to grow up in the 1970s.

I slung Des Moines Registers for a year to save for a Schwinn Sting and slowly built that bike from the frame up-- polished 7x's, Phil Wood hubs, Red Line flights, and in early 1981 at an indoor race in Des Moines, my Sting gave me the courage and walk up and say "hey." to Iowa's own factory rider, Mark Driscoll. And he was so cool.

It’s not true that all the parts were made in Chicago. Frames and wheels were made in the factory in Chicago but some hubs, brakes, and pedals were made in Europe.

It is a shame what has become of Schwinn today, in 1970 we were building our own bikes from Schwinn frames at age 10 I respoked my own rims drilling out my hubs and putting in thicker spokes

We use to take a girls Schwinn frame and weld a crossbar on it and it would be stronger than a boys Schwinn frame. #70schild

I went from a Sting-Ray to a CYC Stormer and I bought the Stormer through a mail-order ad in Dirt Bike magazine--either Dirt Bike or Motocross Action, but I think it was Dirt Bike. And kudos to CYC for making a tough bike at an affordable price, complete with first-gen Skyway Tuff-Wheels. Pity that Schwinn wasn't in the game early and they should have been--the Sting-Ray was the best bike for jumping and racing at first--the only bike, really.
