That was excellent, thanks for posting. I like the line "I even like crashing." And it is interesting that one rider mounted--and got away with--a 24" front wheel. It is curious that the 24" wheel size didn't become the standard--it seems like the perfect size, not too big for the tight tracks and not small like the 20" wheels for the tall riders--and lots of guys were tall and yet still on a bike sized for a seven-year-old. But it was what it was, as they say, and no complaints from me--I enjoyed it all back in the day and I am thankful I was one of those California kids on a Sting-Ray in the Sixties and Seventies.

@177aj Utah we were poineers i raced for 5 summers and won 4 bikes..becouse we were in Utah you never herd of us..raced on a 1973 StingRay..first BMX race in Utah was in Sandy Utah..i have the original news paper from the race that first summer..i was sponsered by a local Yamaha dealer but would not ride the Yamaha bike..started at 13 and than got in to desert racing ...Scott Roberts

yeah the Yamaha bike..saw it in the shop..wanted it but got a orange kawasaki bike..the shocks bottomed out easy and was heavy the ride..but the Yamaha was a total tank..but looked so cool

Had the Moto-Bike. Fun but too heavy for racing. And crappy cotter pin cranks. Got a CYC for racing. I did put Schrader valves on my Moto Bike fork though.😂

I was there that night. I was 15. Those Yamaha bikes were junk. I remember they had guys with rags drying the fiber glass berms with rags after the water jump. Guys were slipping out on it. At 15 years old I thought it was A pretty lame event.
