LECTURE 02b
Here, kinematic relationships are derived for the polar coordinate system. A third dimension is also added to expand these relationships to 3 dimensions. The concepts of Coriolis acceleration and centripetal acceleration that arise from this derivation are highlighted, named, and explained. An example problem is demonstrated involving a car trying to pass another car on a helically ascending ramp. Cylindrical components of velocity and acceleration are found using the equations derived in the first part of the lecture. (Please accept my apologies for the mix-up of diameter and radius in the example problem that had to be corrected using overlays.)
