Part 5: For this Chinese elm bonsai informal upright style, after the repot, I decided to do one more final pruning to reduce more leaves. Also, check out the baby pictures of this plant.

When your branch target length is say 6, you need to cut back to 2 and then grow out again to 8 then back to 4 then grow out again to 6. This gives you the ramification effect instead of one thick long branch as you have now. A ramified branch is a feature of an aged tree, a single thick branch with only secondary branching is an immature image.

I'm surprised that you left the branches so wide. Wide branches give an image of a juvenile tree - it looks relative younger now than when you started. Personally I would chop all the branches back to 1-2inches/3-5cm and grow new ones.

I realy do something with the tronk to apex is so unshaped and to straight ... i put an end to the third branch.

I have a chinese elm 1.5 ft and it died in a heat wave apart from one branch that started growing from an exposed root ( 1 ft tall ) Any ideas ?

it depends where you live, i just looked on kaizenbonsai and he is selling one a little bigger than this for £75 but in the states bonsai stuff is so cheap, i watched a video where this guy buys a azalea for $5 thats like £2.40 but if i buy an azalea same size it would cost me £25 .....
