This is Part 4: So I removed the soil and exposed more of what used to be the old trunk, and it is now the new trunk. There were lots of healthy roots growing, had a tough time doing root prunning. Tree looks great after the repot, one of my favorite trees.

Chinese elms are my absolute favorite. They're so kind and easy to take care for. I have them all over my garden.. shade, sun.. love them!

I'm amazed how much that trunk system thickened in a year

Great video! I really love the pot that you used. Have you thought of putting the cracked side facing the front? You could put another stone in that space with kanji engraved in it (if you have names for your trees haha). I think even the jagged stone now is a beautiful accent at the base of the tree. Looking forward to another update on your willow!

I have learned quite a lot from your videos! Thank you. Question: How does one determine which roots are important? This part of bonsai still scares me.

I will look into ebay and nurseries in search of Bonsai pots. What's a "good" price for pots? I know it varies from size/depth etc. just want to get a ball park pricing. I will do some research myself on different types of soils for different plants, I've noticed that you make your own soils. Maybe i'll look into that as well. Again great job! You are an inspiration! If you are in SoCal I hear there is a Bonsai Convention in Costa Mesa.

Hi there!! I would like to say first, that i love your videos, they are very interesting and educational, I've learned more from your videos these past few weeks, that i did from others in months...Now i am thinking of getting into bonsai, and i absolutely love maples, and i actually found a place near my house that has a great diversity of Japanese maples, but the problem is they are a bit tall (between 19, to 22 inches)...can they still be turned into bonsai effectively? Thank you very much

This is very intriguing! Keep up the great work! I enjoy the videos very inspiring! Thanks to your videos I have done 3 more bonsais, a Japanese Boxwood, Green Mound Juniper, and a Variegated Boxleaf Euonymus. Question though, where do you suggest to go to purchase bonsai pots? Also would Bonsai Mix soil ( the ones you can purchase from nurseries) be suitable for all if not most bonsais?
