I think my lemons get a little nervous whenever I watch you work on yours...and they should.

Thanks. I just pruned my lemon and kumquat trees yesterday and was gratified to know I wasn't far off in my choices. Thank you for staying unabashedly, unapologetically you. I have watched your videos for years and have a great deal of respect for your choices and content even if I sometimes have questions in the back of my mind. The proof is in the history of your trees. Thanks!!!

I really like that tree! I love how the bark looks on the trunk. It's getting thick now! My lemons are catching up to yours!! Mine are almost 5cm tall now!! 😄😂😂

Every time I prune my lemon tree, I ask myself what would Nigel do, say a prayer, cut and pray some more.

Super Cool Lemon tree. Don't worry. Mine are the same. Spring comes and the tree will be vibrant.

Thank you for this. I am new to citrus trees and pruning. I have 3. I am in the north UK. I have a mature tree in a tub outside and 2 small ones inside the conservatory. I am looking to prune and this had helped me greatly.

Brrrrrrr! Cold still in the North 40 by you, Nigel. Definitely a cup of tea tonight to take the chill out of the bones. Great way of getting rid of the mites.

I like the trunk on this tree also. The cuts are healing over. Looks good. Nice explanations on the pruning of the lemon. Hope you can get a lemon on it for a cup of tea in the fall.

Nigel don’t take this the wrong way you do very good work. I see you over pruning sometimes. You are an inspiration but there times when you should cut it all off at once because you’re going to end up there anyways.

Hey Nigel, after exhausting your video library during the height of the lock down I saw a playlist you curated with videos from other KZbinrs and documentaries on trees, one of those KZbinrs was “arborist Blair Glenn” I watched a few of his videos and later subscribed to his channel. As an arborist he routinely says to leave the branch collar when pruning as scars never heal they just get absorbed and hidden from sight and then shows cross sections of trees he’s cut down to demonstrate the damage from bad pruning etc. do these rules not apply to the bonsai since the growth rate isn’t the same as a tree in ground? Are you concerned about possible trunk rot/damage/hollows in the trees you prune flush? Have you ever cross sectioned one of your dead bonsai trees? I’m interested in your thoughts on this. Thanks!

I would like to see how you would graft a branch into one of your trees.

That would be very strange because he mentioned several times that he doesnt like the look of it. Its against the philosophy of letting the tree have a say of whats Happening to it. For the same reason he doesn't use wire.

As a total novice I'm wondering why you are doing so much pruning when you start out saying the tree doesn't look healthy and then find spider mites.
@Water48jks
@Water48jks 9 ай бұрын
Pruning allows the tree to conserve energy and focus on getting healthier. In colder climates like his, its very normal for the tree to drop leaves and look "unhealthy" until the weather gets warm again.
