As the skies darken and shadows fall across her bookshelves, Alice wanders from shelf to shelf, and the books whisper "it's winter, it's our time......' 😊

Quintessential winter with creep factor = The Shining. If you just want an entertaining light thriller, try The Sanitorium by Sarah Pearse. The book I really enjoyed last winter, though, was The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon. Very atmospheric winter vibes. Historic. Character driven with a relatable plot.

Oh yes, I really need to read The Shining!!

@TheBookCastle Winterwood by Shea Ernshaw is a very atmospheric vibey book, too, if you haven't read it. I think you would like it.

- Between shades of gray by Ruta Sepetys, a beautifully hopeful story in the middle of harsh winter in siberia when soviets occupy Lithuania. - Silas Marner by George Eliot, to read next to a fire during a snowstorm - A Christmas Carol and Oliver Twist by Dickens - Frankenstein by Shelley with its glaciar and snowy Alps

Every time it gets wintery I get cravings for Winterwood by Shea Ernshaw. That's how well it does wintery atmosphere. A new classic that I think everyone should read around Christmas is Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan. I would almost say it's the new Christmas Carol.

I read Jane Eyre and Legend & Latte last month, I think november is perfect time for both of this book But I guess it fits for winter too. I'm maybe gonna let myself be tempt by Anna Karina, seems great for winter indeed. I will go for audiobook though. For december I recommand A christmas Carol obviously, Tim Curry is reading it on Audible 🤌 I listened to Oliver Twist it was great for the season aswell. Right now I'm reading Babel and It's soooo good ❤ I also listen to Illusions Perdues/ Lost Illusions by Balzac For this winter I plan to read after : Cry to heaven by Anne Rice and Le Grand Cahier/The Notebook by Agota Kristof. And gonna listen to The Master and Marguarita by Bulgakov.

Hi Alice, greetings again from Toronto 🇨🇦. Another memorable video! Of special interest to me are Bear and the Nightingale and Silent Companions, although I did find a few others for my TBR notebook. My library has some other Katherine Arden novels that I can put on hold, so I will check them out as well. Misery is definitely a winter read, though not a pleasant one! My winter re-reads are Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol, Stephen King’s The Shining, Ursula K Le Guin’s The Left Hand of Darkness and Peter Straub’s Ghost Story. Have a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Good reading to you!

The Winternight trilogy is the perfect winter read! I could feel the cold as I was reading it. Katherine Arden's writing is stunning! ❄️ Emily Wilde was also a nice cozy winter read , the setting & the fairy lore were my favorite parts. I've added legends and lattes to my tbr! 😊

I have Winter Tales! I should read it soon!! Also I totally get what you’re saying about The Secret History: definitely not for everyone but those who love it really love it! I also associate it more with autumn even though it is also technically a winter book. I like Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” and even though I’m not a huge fantasy reader, I did like Naomi Novik’s Spinning Silver ❄️ ⛄️ 🥶

I love reading books by season lol I just finished Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo and I'm almost done with the sequel, Hell Bent, and they are SO wintry and I love it. But snowy settings are my absolute jam! Some of my favorite wintry books are Who Goes There? by John W. Campbell Jr., Dead of Winter by Darcy Coates, and Krampus by Brom. I actually have a shelf on my goodreads just for books with snowy settings lol Some of your recs are on my TBR, and I think I'll probably read at least Emily Wilde this winter because it keeps appearing to me and it's starting to feel like a sign haha

❄️ Most of these are already on my Goodreads tbr, which is a good sign. For me, there are many winter book recs, mostly cuz I read them in winters, but yeah. - The Christmas Guest by Peter Swanson (short novella, mystery) - Nevermoor Chronicles by Jessica Townsend (middle grade, series) - The wizard's guide to defensive making by T. Kingfisher. (Cozy gory mystery) - The Ickabog by J.K Rowling (prettiest book I have, middle grade, perfect for winters) - The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern. (Idk it just has dark cold wintery magical vibe)

You have the talent to create such an attractive atmosphere in which I want to stay as long as possible. Your image really lifts my spirits. Thank you for being such a nice, stylish and very interesting person! By the way, I finished reading the book "The Cat Who Saved Books" by the Japanese author Sosuke Natsukawa - the first few pages are quite difficult emotionally, but then a real masterpiece for book lovers opens. Thank you once again for the intellectual and aesthetic pleasure and greetings from Ukraine!

Great selection of books! Anna Karenina is a favorite of mine and I re read it every few years during the winter. I don't have a winter here in my part of the U.S (Miami, Fl) so I like reading books that give me the winter vibe I'm missing. I need to get to The Bear and the nightingale this winter !

I love listening to your vlogs and your thoughts on all the different books. 📚Krampus The Yule Lord by Brom is very good for winter, the cover looks scary but it’s not. Now it is rather dark and check your trigger warnings. It has a Nordic feel to it and a retelling of the Santa Clause behind the story. Very good read. Another is The Old Magic of Christmas by Linda Raedisch it is another dark and just a little scary book 📕 but very good for this time of year.

Hi Alice! I've just finished two books on my autumn list and I really think you'll like them: A dark and secret magic by Wallis Kinney and The Crescent Moon Tearoom by Stacy Sivinski, they're both on the cozy side and both are about witches and the power of sisterhood, in the second one the house is also a character... And I've found It fascinating! I think soon I'll try to read The secret history because I Just have to try now😂 Happy Yule month!

the unnamed midwife sounds similar to The Street by Cormac McCarthy. I read it as a graphic novel by Manu Larcenet and it's also about a dystopian world were very very few people are still left and what's left is quite brutal. People kill and loot for survival and the book is about a father and son trying to make it in this world. It was kind of depressing honestly, I don't like dystopian stories very much but I still really liked it for what it was so if you like those type of stories, give it a try. It also takes place in a snowy environment, they are trying to go south to warmer regions, so I guess perfect for winter?
