Local Post and Courier writer Ashley Cooper used to say Charleston is where the Ashley River and the Cooper River combine to form the Atlantic Ocean.

Marine puck galvanic isolators will fix the problem with tripping power on the new power pedestals. I have an 86 trawler that was doing that. We installed the marine pucks and have had no problem since.

Congrats on using the boating/Loop network to track down a good electrician who got your electrical gremlin fixed! Sure looks like the superb crew of Sea Shine is settling in to a good routine and starting to really enjoy the experience. Just remember, a calm sea never made for a skilled seaman. With all the challenges Sea Shine and crew have faced, and conquered, you are all turning into fine seamen!

So true!!! Experience is the only way to gain skills and we were gaining new skills at a very rapid pace 🤣

I had a similar issue on my boat, turned out to be DC side on the Fridge. I unhooked that and it works fine now. I can only run my fridge on shore power or generator now, but I can plug in anywhere. Glad you found the issuse

That’s good intel for others struggling with the sensitive new power pedestals. Thanks for sharing!

I ran across the old Cooper River Bridge for the annual Cooper River Bridge Run with my U.S Border Patrol Academy Class in 1998. Visited the carrier and war memorial park too. Great memories. Thanks for sharing.

Your boat, your family and the loop are the reason for a higher education... great post
@TheBoomershines6 ай бұрын
Well it certainly took a highly educated electrician to find our electrical gremlin LOL. But we are big believers in higher education for sure!

So... the electrician said the ground was tied to neutral in the washer dryer... unless I missed it... you didnt say how he fixed it.... ?? Let us know... we're all learning.... Really enjoying the videos of your trip!
@robhowen6 ай бұрын
Great video as always. I particularly liked the electrical issue because I'm wondering if I could be impacted. In a house, it is not uncommon to have neutral and ground connected. However, that does not mean you should. But, is it on a boat? Clearly it was on yours. Gosh, is it on mine???? Continued safe passage folks.

Our washer and dryer came that way. Guessing it was the factory standard 🤷♀️

Mark & Cinda, Your channel is so much fun to watch. Thanks for sharing all your family adventures. I have a few insurance questions, if you don't mind. I was wondering if you had previous boat ownership/experience and how you were able to insure a 56 foot yacht. I have no boating experience other than driving a boat during the summer when I was little for 5 minutes here and there. I've read insurance articles that say the underwriters would rather you start with a boat under 40 and upgrade 10 foot every 3 to 5 years. I want a boat like yours, so 50 to 55 feet. That would take me over 10 years starting now and I'm 51 and don't have the money to start yet. What was your experience getting insurance?
@TheBoomershines5 ай бұрын
Mark and I grew up boating on lakes. We both had a ton of experience with small boats and have owned some sort of boat for 30 years. When we wanted to explore more on bigger boats, we went to the Chapman School of Seamanship for a week-long course. Then we chartered boats to gain more experience. I always say, where there is a will, there is a way. I've heard of insurance companies requiring you to have a captain aboard for a certain amount of time before they will insure you to operate your boat without a captain. You will want a captain anyway if you are new to boating so that seems like a great way to do it. Hope that help!

Neutral Tied to Ground is always the problem. Ask me how I know 🤣 @boatingwithnautiagain

We'd love to hear your story! The challenge is finding THE neutral and ground. Did it take you two days also? LOL

I understand your concerns, but i think your anxiety level would make me want to give up on the trip. As a "captain" worrying about everything, having someone echoing all that would push me over the edge. running aground would definitely suck, but i don't think it would be life threatening under those conditions.
@TheBoomershines6 ай бұрын
Thankfully the captain and I usually worried about totally different things 🤣. I was focused on navigational hazards and he focused on internal hazards aboard the boat. It all worked out for us. And you are right, running aground in the ICW wouldn’t be life threatening but it could certainly be expensive and time consuming. Neither of which is ideal.

Haven't really watched many OLOH videos, but one popped up a couple days ago titled Hell Gate. Watched, but turned out Hell Gate in East River NYC. At one point talked through starting engines. "Starting port engine, starting starboard engine. Sorry, we don't have cute names for our engines. Boomershines!" Lol. Thought that was pretty funny

My wife says when we’re done cruising turquoise water, we MIGHT consider dirty rivers. I’m inclined to agree. The historic ports are the real attraction of the loop. There’s a lot of history in the Caribbean too.
