eleanorkerby, My hub & I built our woodland home three years ago. I was 65 and he was 71. We are fairly experienced, being from farm families, but still lots of challenges in this economy. Great lifestyle! We save by burning wood primarily & using propane and contracting local help whenever possible. I just saved a bunch by using our town yard sales. And don't forget JC's Mall :-)

diane...I am not a coach purse kind of woman. I love second hand anything and have visted the "mall" here locally and left things and took things left. I would rather save there and have the funds I have go to something else. It is as he says backwoods logic. my son said I will be eaten by a bear. he is fearful for me. I joked saying it would be a better story to tell then this cancer taking me out. I don't mind hiring what I am not physically able to do. our cabin is 384 sq feet and no lofts. It will be tight, but not at all afraid of that. Thanks for that word of inspiration. It is a good time in our lives to do this, no kids and we have his pension and two ss checks starting end of year as long as it holds out and if it doesn't well it is a race of time anyway

Hey Boss, just a quick thank you. I just returned to the house after a week of rescue operations from Hurricane Florence. Last weekend was wading in chest deep water, pulling a little johnboat, to get my family out of the house and to shelter. Water came within an inch of coming over the porch and into the first floor, so we were blessed that we had no significant damage. But what I have seen this week was unbelievable. My neighbor lost everything, and I have spent days on a boat, sleeping a an hour or two when I can, pulling people out and getting them to shelters. Any how, as stressful as it is, was able to get my pipe and enjoy catching up on your vids this morning. They really are pleasing and I thank you for taking the time to post them. A little bit of silver lining in the clouds. I am not a religious man, but spiritual, and I hope God blesses you on your upcoming surgery, and pray you have a speedy recovery!

I am sorry to hear that you have to have surgery. I am a person of faith and I believe that our maker has a plan for each person's life. My prayer for you will be that the creator of life will guide the surgeon's hands and mind and that you will have a great outcome! I missed seeing our special Frankie and his little companion Tildy. I am sure she is keeping everyone in the house busy! They are like having a little toddler in the house. They are always lively and playing with their toys. She probably makes Frankie tired at times, but I think he probably enjoys her. Lots of hugs and kisses and treats to them and enjoyment for you. My best to you and yours during this difficult time.

We 'lovingly' call that surgery the 'Van Gogh procedure'. My husband had it done a few years back. Now, it looks like our teen son is going to need the same surgery on both ears. I am not at all happy about that. But he is willing to do whatever he needs to do. Prayers for you, Boss.

Just read through the comments and love not only how many of us are having coffee with your video, but mostly all the prayers coming at you for your upcoming surgery - including mine. Being away from medical help is one reason my husband and I didn't buy near my uncle's former farm and I sometimes regret it because I live in a nice development, but you can't even dry your clothes outside (who knew there even was such a thing - not me!)

Bought a pair of those loppers a few months back, and you’re right they’re the best ones I’ve ever owned. We used to set up a couple of mouse traps very similar to yours at our camp, they work better than anything you could ever buy! Good luck with your surgery, we’ll keep you in our prayers....
