Dear jc I have just got done watching your series on Back To My Roots, this series was by far the most heart felt and really tugged at my heart. it brought back memories of when I use to go to the woods and just listen there I heard nothing but silence save a few sparrows squaking. I understand why you live your life as if there were no tomorrow, because I have been through a life changing also. Your videos have inspired me so much that I want to go back and try to live just a simple life again. And true to your thoughts this world is really not as it was so many years ago. I to have been keeping a daily journal of everyday things that happened on my daily life. sometimes its a struggle to just get up and go. this seriefors made me smile it made me cry for all the lost loved ones that I have lost. And for the ones that still live that don't keep in contact with me. You are so fortunate to have the life you now live. if all the people would watch your videos there would be less slavery to the modern world and more going back to our own roots. You my guy have so richley inspired me and turned my thinking process around I'm greatful for this. And as always I will keep watching your blessed videos. May you always be blessed in all your accomplishments.

Hey JC! This video brought tears to my eyes. I lost my father when I was just 22 back in 1987, and my father was just 56 years young. Cancer took him in just six short months. You brought back a ton of memories when you speak of all the great times you had with your father. Your 100% correct as none of us know when our last day will come, but this video will light a spark in all of us working in the "Rat Race" everyday to purchase and own things we don't need to get along in life, yet work much harder than we have to, to have them as trophies in the garage, (new cars, boats, motorcycles, etc.). At the end of the day, all that "extra stuff" is just rented in life when your last day arrives. Great video JC!!!

I really enjoy your videos and the going Back To My Roots series . I went back to mine about 10 years ago and how things have changed , the woods that I used to squirrel hunt in as a kid have been turned in to a " subdivision in the woods " filled with total electric vinyl sided homes with rustic fronts . Ha , kinda like one person I met there that puts on the rustic front and calls his riding mower a tractor as he keeps his lawn in perfect Home Owners Association shape . I have since retired to the mountains in southern New Mexico and am slowly building my off grid dream on a few acres . I always look forward to your videos as they always keep me positive about what I'm doing .
@thebossoftheswamp10 жыл бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts Robert. Aside from some piss poor logging practices, the woods where this was filmed haven't changed much since I was a boy. All the wild places are slowly disappearing so I need to enjoy them all I can while I can. I thought buying large amounts of acreage was going to give me what I need but it's not filling the void. I'll keep my cabin and hunt and trap here but consider NY state my Home. Happy Holidays to you and best of luck with your dream home.

Thanks for the great videos. You are indeed a man of many talents and have lived a life that most would envy. I admire your perseverance through your tribulations and the fact that you continue to pursue the things in life you love most. My buddy, Smitty, told me about you and got me watching your work. He is, like you, one-of-a-kind and could tell you and the world stories that would have you rolling on the floor one minute and crying the next. He is always giving people stuff that is indigenous to his home. He lives practically in the shadows of the spires of Churchill Downs (home of KY Derby). He builds hot rods & motorcycles, paints some pretty terrific art, hunts whatever is in season, and loves to hunt down BBQ restaurants wherever he goes. He is also your biggest supporter. Keep up the great work!

Hi Boss. I had paragraph after paragraph to write after watching about 20 videoes, but couldn't quite sum up what I wanted to say. In the end I thought simple was best. Your life seems to sum up the real difference between a human "be-ing" versus a human "do-ing" . I know many days you put in a full or longer workday than most, but it is soul enriching to do it for yourself. I love chopping firewood, but if it was my job it would seem tedious. I fondly remember gathering , sawing and chopping each log I burn. To paddle my kayak is one of the most amazing thing to do. It's hard to seperate yourself for a bit from the world. Even on a trail Someone may come along. In a boat on a large lake, you cannot be surprised lol. I cannot be a worker drone and die a cog in the wheel. I am an excellent woodworker, and outdoorsman( though have never hunted.. I'm not against it... No judgement ... I may take it up) I gained great inspiration from your videos regarding baby steps... Just what I needed to hear at the time I needed it most. I just turned 42 and also wonder how many good years I have left. I aim to make the most of all of it. Thanks for your words and glimpse into you. Perhaps our paths may cross someday. I think I would enjoy meeting you. If not, at least I can say I admire what I have learned of you. Best wishes, and regards, Mike Sniedze, Vancouver B.C.

krenov72 Hello Mike. Thank you for the well thought out, well written response. It thrills me immensely that so many enjoy my videos and ramblings. I always tell people that they can have everything and anything that they want, and if they want a "simple life" well... that's the simplest goal to conquer. The problem is, most folk work in the opposite direction of simplicity. I'm starting a new series on life philosophies soon. I have A LOT to say about life my friend. All the best to you.

WOW!! Lot's to comment on, in this video. Your father was a true American hero !!! My Uncle was a WW2 pilot in the Pacific theater. Next to my father, he was the toughest man I ever knew. They truly were the greatest generation. Frankie sure was a cute puppy, LOL........I was sick also back in the 1990's with some weird brain virus that almost killed me. Took two years to recover, to the extent that I can recover......It seems we are never the same after going through something like that. Great video Boss !!!!

Thank you my friend. I wonder if my dad and your uncle ever crossed paths because he fought in the Pacific theatre as well. He retired as a Major so he was in for a long time. Our past illnesses and experiences make us who we are today. I take nothing for granted now because of them.

Really great video Boss.....I waited to watch all 4 parts together. Excellent! You've been given a "gift" from God in regards to your passions, videos, but even more so the messages you share. Part 4 got me a little emotional (as I can see from your other comments, was the same for you and others). I have lots of pictures of my grandfather, dad and my dads brother (who I hunted with when dad was not home). I miss them, but know I'll see them again someday & we can relive our stories right down to my uncles red/black wool jacket. Thank you so much for opening up and letting us into your life. God Bless.

WOW!! that was very touching brother! now i understand why you wear that old red and black jacket! I always thought, I'm sure he has the money to buy a jacket that the sleeve isn't torn out, so why wear that one. but now it all makes perfect sense.Those are beautiful stories about your dad. I'm saddened to know this series has ended, but i certainly hope you will not keep us waiting too long for a new one. Thanks so much for sharing such intimate moments of your life with all of us. you certainly are one of a kind my friend. atb. Tony

It is so hard to slow people down now days. The life of working for someone else takes it's toll on every part of us. I have to remind my daughter to get out of the apartment and enjoy the life and beauty around her. She calls me after each adventure telling me how wonderful she feels, like a weight is taken off her shoulders. It's cleansing to get into the woods. My heart breaks each time I remember my dad. An artist and inventor and he could make you smile just to look into his eye's he had so much love for everyone and the tiniest details of nature would stop him in his tracks from any chore he was doing so he could show us the wonder of it all. Ahhh if I had not lost all my journals in the flood of hurricane Andrew in 92, wow I'd be happy about it too. I keep having flashes every now and again of things I've forgotten and write those recovered memories in my journal today. Your so blessed to be able to have yours at your finger tips. Thanks for sharing your life with us. ATB Louise :)

I enjoyed this series very much, As most who know me well will tell you. He missed his calling by 150 years. I still do what I have to survive in this world. But If I could step back in time it would be before all this electronic world took over. I keep journals of all my adventures for past 20 years. I wished I had started at age 5 tho instead of 25. They will pass on to my son when I feel the time is right. He is 5 and as soon as he is writing. He will get his 1st journal. And be shown all of mine so he can see the importance and the memories. Thanks again for the series. Will check out others and be waiting till spring 2015.

Nothing like growing up and going into hunting camp on Friday nights. We used to rush home from work, get our stuff ready and race to camp. And the beer would flow. Now a days, lucky if we can even make it in but 2 or 3 weekends a year. and now we don't drink, lol, go figure. I wish my son could enjoy hunting camp . He has allergies really bad and cannot even go there with us. If we are lucky, on Thanksgiving day he makes it to the land where we hunt for a drive or two. He is a Senior in High School Football right now. So I am enjoying his last year and not sure when I will make it in. His team won their Division, so not sure how far they will make it into the playoffs, but they have a good chance to go to the Syracuse Dome. Which would be his dream. Thank you for sharing your video's. They are very good and you have a nack to get us to chuckle. Thanks again and good luck hunting and trapping this Fall.

Stop..I can't...too many feels... Great stuff, its always good to look ahead to what's next, and always slow down a little to enjoy the now, and fun to look back at how we got to where we are. Sometimes it feels like we can't go on...then sometimes it seems like everything's perfect and can't get any better...it works itself out. Love to watch your videos, its like seeing an old buddy and catching up with how things are going.
