If you know the backstory this is actually based on reality. Many of the people that worked at ABC at the time hated the direction the show had gone in after Urkel became the centerpiece for the show. Well documented

Like "Good Times" before it: It was fine until they changed things with J.J. and his catch phrase, which I HATE hearing to this day. Seriously, whenever I watch it, I mute it. It's like glass being shoved into your ear. And when James left, it was just bad.

Granted, Family Matters got goofy after Steve Urkel showed up, but there still are episodes that focused both on the Winslows & other serious issues, like gun violence, Harriet reconnecting with her absent father, and racism. 😉

Touching on their partnership as a duo, Keegan Michael-Key said Jordan Peele did 90% of the writing/creating ideas for sketches, and Keegan just bounced back with a few ideas to perfect the skit. It makes sense after seeing Peele go into directing and producing films, especially when they weren't even comedies. Meanwhile Keegan has only had a few roles in some sitcoms. Not that he's not talented, but it's clear Peele was the main creative mind, and he had good chemistry with Keegan who could perfect their comedy sketches together.

Well it wasn’t just Peele. They had a whole writing crew. Plus Keegan was just in some sitcoms roles. He had two ensemble main character roles. That’s nothing to just oversee.

The best moment ever in family matters was when James Avery made a cameo during the end credits and Carl Winslow completely broke character and busted out laughing and so did James. I won't lie, I cried a little bit because I didnt discovered that clip until a month after averys passing.

There are so many people out there who hate the things that made them so famous, and well maybe I understand the pride of an artist wanting to put their art forward, a family sitcom on ABC was never going to be the place where that was going to happen. Everything is going to end up being kind of corny oh, and the actors that and embrace that did well during the TGIF decade that happened on ABC. I feel lucky to be somebody who was a kid and a teenager during the height of this because TV is not the same as it used to be and it's not as special as it used to be. When you only had a handful of networks and everybody got together on Friday night to watch TGIF there is something special about it now it doesn't even matter what anybody's doing and it makes me sad. But if the same time I realize that things can't stay the same forever and my kids when they are 40 will have the same Nostalgia for things that I don't even understand right now LOL😅

Even though this was a kinda over exaggerated version of what happened behind the scenes of the show but there was real tension at times during the tapings of family matters due to the over exposure that Steve urkal character was getting.

The difference between Family Matters and a show like Seinfeld friends and Everybody Hates Chris is that Family Matters were supporting failing almost dead end actors from the father to Jaleel well Everybody Hates Chris gay but jumping on point as well as the other shows or these actors. That's why Steve in this kid's not wrong for saying all you have to do is take the money cuz that was what was keeping the father and the rest of the family relevant it was Steve he took control because he brought the views
