It's my first animated movie of 2016 with the Tron knock-off "Korean Tron" (1983)! It may not have light-cycles, but it DOES have a horny robot doll!

In Sweden, the old Cyborg 009 anime series was dubbed by just one person when it was released on VHS. This dubbing is legendary in Sweden. :)

With most non-anime movies and shows (and many anime too) theyd have a single studio do the dubbing for tons of shows at a time and with some movies they couldnt group together theyd get TINY studios do the dubbing so youd wind up with 1 or 2 people doing the entire cast and the studio may also be the distributor too, so they were rarely voice actors. I remember heading about some Philippino show where the american distributor was also the dub studio, and it was just a married couple so the translating, dubbing, and voice acting was 1 man, 1 woman, and 1 or 2 of their under aged kids. Theyd also sometimes do the dubbing in other countries where english isnt a first language to save money, so you'd get a japanese anime hiring a korean company to do English dubbing even though neither group had good English translating or speaking skills which explains both poor translating and flat deliveries or weird inflections

@@arthas640 There is a satellite station in Poland called POLSAT that me and a friend managed to receive in the mid 90:ies and the same guy did the dubbing for all the cast in all the movies and series that they showed. @@Henrik_Holst yah, but in Eastern European cultures it's more common for just one person to dub the entire movie. They're called lectors. It mostly applies to old cinematic movies, tv ones or tv series. They dub cartoons properly though.

Good guess, Brandon. The one-eyed pirate lady is lifted from a completely different anime: the "Space Adventure Cobra' tv series. In Cobra she is Sandra, leader of the Snow Guerrillas, all all-female group of Guild pirates. This studio must have done some of the animation for that show.

That annoying little wind-up doll robot queen lady thing is... actually kind of adorable? I think it's because she's both less irritating to look at than the rest of the "cast", and that her voice actress puts in maybe 10% of an actual performance, compared to everyone else's 0%.

I watched this video to get a good riffing of that old animated film, but one thing I didn't expect is that the American overdub is actually _way worse_ than the infamously sloppy Greek one we had to live with (believe it or not, some Greek overdubs are actually stellar, but there are so many horrible ones, especially during specific time periods, that they are a bit of a national meme - especially because they often involve not just bad voice acting, but also huge translation errors and bad sound editing).

20:21 - Though it's not shown, Black John's death scene includes a final memory of his childhood life on an Alabama farm and his wish to see his parents again. This suggests that he was a Human kidnapped and forced to be Not-Sark's enforcer, which also informs why he set up the fake 'rabbit hunting game' and teamed up with the hero so quickly at the oasis.

Listening to the English dub feels so weird... I'm used to the French version, which in some way is funnier (or maybe that's because it's my mother tongue so I can get more subtleties?). Basically, some of the voices are better at acting (still... not stellar, but a little more colorful) but because there's so many characters for so few voice actors, some feel weirdly twisted, like somebody pinching his nose while talking. The accents at the beginning are worse imo, and some countries are even mistaken for one another (the American diplomats-you know, the one with the Asia map-speak with Russian accents). And Keith is pronounced in a bizarre French way, sounding like the work "caisse" (keh-ss). Anyway, that's one guilty pleasure of mine. If you feel like checking out "le sauveur de la terre", it's on youtube too.

2:48 don't complain, Brandon, in Spain, where I live, the ENTIRE cast of FernGully was dubbed by one guy for no reason, and yes, that includes the feminine cast

Yes, more anime and "fantastic" knock-off movies! Seriously, I'd kind like to hear Brandon's take on "Tomb of Dracula," the "classic" anime where Der Count gorges on hamburgers!!! Hard to believe that movie was "inspired" by Marvel's classic 1970s horror series... NOT so hard to believe that it was followed up by an anime adaptation of "Frankenstein." Oh, there's so, so much there in the world of tackly, poorly edited, and BADLY-dubbed animated films that have fallen into obscurity in the $1 movie bins. Some are so classic they've only made out onto VHS 30 years past!

05:30. Dude, that's Space Invaders. What if the Earth was going to be invaded by aliens (like in every other Japanese Kaiju film)? That's virtual combat training right there? Maybe then the army can hit a Kaiju for a change? XD

Probably mentioned already, but the spaceship at 15:23 is clearly ripping off the Arcadia from Captain Harlock, and I suppose its pirate captain is ripping off Emereldas.

Actually, this sounds so similar to Dragon Ball's Speedy dub, where it was actually dubbed by a group of workers from Blockbuster-like video stores called Speedy from Malaysia.
