Thank you Doctor! The advantage to being 64.5 years old is that I have simplified my skin care regime and kept it constant. Not bragging, but I constantly get stopped at Costco - wondering why I am trying to crash seniors hour.....🤣

I've always kind of done cycling as I rotate between retinol day, exfoliation day, sheet mask/hydration day and then a day where I use Korean niacinamide and propolis serums and faded topicals. Morning is always the same though, where I use Vitamin C as my treatment, and then Korean Galactomyces products

To me, it would make more sense if you made the gap day in between the two treat products. That way you can see if/which ingredient is too irritating and cut back as appropriate. Feel like we all do some form of skin cycling, as it’s not easy to figure out what is the proper pairing of each product/ingredient

I've enjoyed other derms' videos on this. For the most part, they've said that people have already been doing some version of skin cycling on their own.

I'm happy to hear a few dermatologists recommending not using retinoids daily! Some youtube dermatologists have criticised the skin cycling idea and think you should always aim to build up to nightly use, increase to a more concentrated product and preferably switch to a tretinoin. As someone with very sensitive skin (the CeraVe SA cream burned so bad I almost cried washing it off) that doesn’t even feel like it’s in the realm of possibility. Do you have any more tips for anti-aging routine for people with sensitive skin? Especially what retinoid derivative would be best, how high of a dose and what frequency should we reasonably try to build up to? Just, the whole anti-aging skincare routine from the perspective of someone with very sensitive skin.

I had super sensitive skin prior to perimenopause (only good thing so far to this change in life). I started on Adapalene (Differin) over a moisturizer every third night on my chin and forehead. Worked up to rest of face and nightly. I now use a retinol nightly without issue even in drying winters of Minnesota.

Love your videos and looking forward to part 2 on skin cycling. I’m wondering about toner and where it fits in with daily routine. Use or skip if you’re following this skin cycling process?

I have the same question. I love using toner and would like to know her recommendations.

That would be interesting. Not all derms believe toner is necessary unless maybe you're using it as a treatment toner like the ordinary glycolic one, for instance. I believe Dr Shereene Idriss has a video on toner.

I'm about to adopt your alternating skin cycle. I've been using lots if actives and my skin looks in good condition. However, I'm upping my retinal intake and therefore I want to have that "repair" day. Can I use peptides on day 2? What do you suggest? I'm not new to peptides. Thanks!

Hi, Dr Maren! About your version of skin cycling. For each treatment nights, can I use vitamin c in the morning? Like for example, I will use vitamin c in the morning then the treatment night #1. The next day, in the morning vitamin c again then the treatment night #2?

I am currently ramping up my Tretinoin for a big event at the end of June, using Dr. Sam Ellis’ Tretinoin routine. So this week is Monday/Wednesday/Friday- Tretinoin. Is it safe to do Tuesday/Thursday-Exfoliation and Saturday/Sunday-Recovery? Or is a Recovery Night *required* after Night 1 Tretinoin, Night 2 Exfoliation?

What is wrong with layering products?
@TheBudgetDermatologist
@TheBudgetDermatologist Жыл бұрын
I personally do not layer products - i think it increases risk of irritation, skin barrier disruption, and can potnetially interfere with product efficacy. i'll never say never for that...but i *usually* dont! however, if you layer and it works for you, thats great! i always say if you have a routine that works, stick with it!

Skin cycling schmicycling. These trends are absolutely ridiculous. Why? Idc about this. Wash, moisture, sunscreen. I don't have time to worry about something like skin cycling nor does it interest me. I'm glad some dermatologists don't do this. Being realistic is going out the door. 🙄

@@lucyclark1301 xylitol also kills dogs but is a praised ingredient in toothcare in multiple countries and has been known to prevent cavities. Just because it kills coral reefs doesn’t *automatically* mean it’s bad for humans. That said, the ingredient that kills coral reefs (oxybenzone) does happen to be allergen and is suspected to disrupt hormones in humans, so it would be a good idea to avoid it to protect the nature and yourself
