I showed this balance training system to you about a week or so ago. And now that I have had some time to use it, I wanted to share a more thorough look at it.
The balance training system is a lunging system made to help your horse with stretching and balance. It is very similar to the Pessoa lunging system, but it includes so much more in the package.
I have been using it as instructed and in even just a week, I have noticed a difference in how my horse carries himself, even when I am riding him! I did have to add some different pieces and parts to make it work for my horse who is about 16.3, and very long. But if your horse is a little shorter, and more compact this should work just fine. Out of all of this type of lunging systems I have tried, this was the one I chose to buy because of what was included, and the cost. I just wish it came in different sizes.

Would love love to see videos as you progress with this system. I was literally looking at this system on Amazon last night. I love lunging and ground work exercises, because unlike with riding, I can WATCH my horses movements.

just encourages horse to tuck head behind the vertical and creates a whole new set of problems for you as a rider.

Yep exactly, I am working w a 6 yr old Andalusian that apparently had this done to her. It is like someone tried to force her into a quarterhorse frame while wanting a dressage look. Her hocks are weak, she short strides with her hinds when cantering (does not have these issues in a pasture free playing) and crossfires. She gaps her mouth as if there is pressure from a bit (this is on lungeline, halter and no other equipment). She flings her head as if anticipating pressure, then drops to an unnatural low headset. She was mentally spun out and reactive. Now she is settling in after 2 months of no artificial aids. I wonder how of this misuse of equipment is leading to horses w kissing spine and other soundness issues.

I have a horse I am working with that is an upright horse. It is evident that someone tried this with her. She short strides w the hinds, gaps her mouth and flings her nose expecting resistance and then carries it unnatural (for her) low. Doing this wrong is like doing physical therapy wrong and potentially damage horses in their physical development. Scary to think of this in the hands of amateur owners.

I came here to say this (this video showed up on my feed - I didn't go looking for it...) Please don't do this to your horse....there are other much better ways to balance and strengthen your horse - this is definitely NOT the way to do it....(among other things it does to a horse biomechanically, it shoves C6-C7 back into a damaging and unnatural place behind the scapula...)

I can't believe I missed the notification for this video. Great information! I thought I heard you mention that the cords were a bungee type which I assume meant that Frisbee can still lift his head but some of the ladies have mentioned that this device is cruel 😔 I guess I'll have to watch the video again and do a bit more research. I certainly wouldn't want to do anything that would harm my horses. I don't think any of us would. Thank you for sharing. I learn something new everyday 🙄

:Yes I found some of the same issues size wise. I just got this from Jeffers last week. My horse is very large; around 16H, long bodied. The breeching lines are way too tight, I'm going to have to make my own as you have done. Thanks for doing this video.

I agree with the other comments about not using this. If you already have a surcingle, I would send this back for a refund. If you have a blog post about this, later when I have more time, I can give you a more in depth, full blown explanation of why and how this isn't a training tool rather more of a gadget or crutch. Long lines are easy to make and you can get a better long term "fix" that fits any horse no matter their size and also allows for the time it takes for them to build the muscles and "work up to it" long term. I found the post I mention how to make long lines- showinstyle.blogspot.com/2016/08/long-line-work-part-1.html?m=1

is the rope stretchy or more of just a nylon rope? I tried the Pessoa system but there was too much bounce in the rope and it was pulling the bit. My trainer suggested I make one with elastic but was wondering if this one was already stretchy?

Please don't use things like this on your horse! Yes it says to use it for only 20 min, but could you imagine if someone told you to do the easy version of chair pose, for just 20 min, and we'll increase from there. Horses can only properly hold their frame for a very short amount of time before they start compensating. Usually that compensation happens by the horse dropping the withers down between the shoulder blades into a look a like posture, and then the hind end trails behind instead of flexing deeper and stepping under the way you want. It looks like your horse may have figured how to swing his hind legs around laterally to avoid this. People with the best in best intentions don't realize what is actually happening. There are no short cuts in life, and this is no exception. I still love you Lisa, but I had to give a trainers input!

Don’t use this system, it forces the horses head down instead of having the horse find relaxation on its own.

The system is loose enough for the horse to lift his head and not always go in a frame. I doubt Lisa would ever intentionally or not harm her horses. This lunging system in helpful for them to use themselves and build muscle without much interference from the rider. In fact, the picture on the box is set much tighter and at an intermediate level, so the horse there is doing more work that hers was. Would you rather have your horse figure himself out and balanced on the lunge after a few short sessions, or have him irritated with 100+ pounds on his back throwing him off and the rider possible stiffening his back without proper muscling already in place?? Lunging is beneficial when done in moderation with the horse actively working all his muscles he uses when riding. But if done with just a halter and no aide, the horse may not work correctly and hollow the back and only build the cardio system. Also, if the horse learns to go in frame on the lunge with a loose system, they should perform the same/closely when riding. No one should go out and lunge their horse (with or without and aide) for long periods of time, as it can wear their legs out and stiffen their bodies. Trust me, this horse is working comfortably and is building the correct muscles.

@@MicaelaGutierrez2004 have you ever heard of liberty The horse can have beautiful natural carriage of itself
@MicaelaGutierrez2004
@MicaelaGutierrez2004 4 жыл бұрын
Talla Tee That’s true. After the horse has muscled itself and learned it. I can swear that most horses don’t have efficient self-carriage at liberty. Liberty is more about working with the horse without a lunge line, it pays off by having a better bond. But no matter how strong the bond, it can’t provide the teaching of self carriage. Even the most experienced horses take a long time to learn self-carriage. Take Elisa Wallace’s 4star horse Johnny. She’s had him for a long time (around 5 years or more) and he’s just starting to get into using self carriage all the time, whether fully tacked or tackles jumping. I know Elisa used similar methods to teach him to stretch over his back and work on the lunge line in his training routine, and she probably still does. Again, I’m not saying self-carriage is impossible to teach, but it isn’t as simple as throwing them in the round pen and having them run in circles. Using methods like this certainly help, but they shouldn’t be used in excess. Just like any exercise, you do it at a moderate amount per day/week/month. Like jumping everyday, not exactly a good idea as it wears down the tendons without proper warm up and cool downs and rest periods in between. That’s why most people only jump once a week. But trotting piles on the other hand, you can do more often, but not excessively. You get the point. It’s possible, but can’t happen immediately and be expected.
