I decided to get my lashes back on for a couple of vacations we have planned in the final months of 2024. I love that I don't have to bring my mascara or worry about it dripping down my face when I get in the pool.
In this video, I document how I paid for my lashes when it wasn't in my budget.
I also wanted to note that it may seem like my morning routines take a long time or a lot of time. It doesn't. If I wasn't recording or explaining my steps, I only spend about five minutes a day on my finances!

That's how my miscellaneous category got messed up. I'd take money for something and dump it all under Miscellaneous, but it was a combo of medical, clothes, subscriptions, or gifts.

I am the very worst about borrowing from other envelopes. I give myself 200 dollars every 2 weeks to split between personal spending envelopes and sinking envelopes. I give myself about 20 dollars on average for each envelope, (spending, misc, hobbies, clothes, beauty/hygeine, etc) - - - i keep it the same paycheck after paycheck, and sometimes i need to borrow from one to pay for another category, and it makes me feel bad. I should make my envelopes more variable, but this is what I have been doing for years, and it has more or less worked out. I get overwhelmed whenever i think about switching it up. and my budget is so tight between bills and such that there's not much more leftover to play with.

If it helps anyone, we do our envelopes as “grocery/food”, “car/gas” and then an “everything else” budget. Idk if we’re going to want to get a coffee or if the kids will need something for school. We kind of categorize each transaction as it comes while still having a budget to stick to if that makes sense 😊

It happens that you may have to pull money from other categories- I do it. It’s just on the monthly budget closeout in those other categories like Misc etc you would mark as 0 spent and in beauty 121 so the numbers all add up at the end of the month. Great video as usual. Are the BBPs shipping early?

My 4-year-old son kept interrupting me when I was watching (😂), so perhaps I missed something, but I'm confused about how you recorded your lashes expense. You explained it's important to monitor where money is coming from to notice patterns and habits, but on your Expense Tracker, you only wrote down the 1 category of Beauty. How do you remember that you "stole" from the other two categories in your book (other than just writing it on the actual envelopes)? Thank you.

It’s more important that you record the transaction accurately and that you used the money you had (instead of going into debt) then that you “stole” from other categories. Because you didn’t “steal” anything you just changed your plan and decided that buying xyz was more important than abc. Your budget is a made construct, it’s not real and you can change it as often as you like.
