The comments on this video do NOT pass the vibe check. None of us know these peoples' whole lives by a ~30 minute video. Stop being so quick to judge, not everything is going to work for you and your family and that's fine! Miko is working with THEIR individual family. Watch the video, use some tips if it applies to you and move on.

The military member can go to finance and change their pay to monthly instead twice a month. Also military pays for all moving expenses, you can even request your DLA (dislocation allowance) in advance. This Real Life Budget was super helpful, both my husband and I are both active duty military, so this was very similar to our budget. Thanks again Miko! Edit to add: They might be able to pay for their kids college by transferring GI Bill benefits which would cover basic living allowance. (This depends on if they qualify).

“All Moving expenses” but you are still going to have to pay new deposits for electricity and water, if you rent in town a month or 2 for that, if you rent you may have move out expenses. I’ve never had a military move not cost me 😅

GI bill can be passsd down to the daughter but it sounds like one of these has another kid due to child support ( could be it being irr see d for that one ) or she used it for school.. military while they do pay for moves things still come up where it is good to have a buffer ie shipping pets not covered having to ship a 2nd car not covered, you only allotted a certain amount for dislocation/ Move when you first move.. and deposit and new plans depending on where they go as well and take into consideration of the possibility of her income loss

Also if he’s been in for 15 years, he will likely retire at a point where he would receive retirement pay and he probably has a tsp fund already coming out of his pay so the college fund numbers and retirement amount can definitely get a second look.

I don't feel Christmas is too big a thing. But maybe A gift is ok, not several. I grew up poor and we had maybe A gift. And when I went to school everyone had several gifts. I knew we were poor. And it made me appreciate what I did receive. It made it more special. I'd rather raise my kids knowing the value you receive when you work save and purchase your own. You feel great doing it on your own. But morals and values are better. Not that you can't do both give several gifts and teach moral and values. But the extra money can buy you time to spend time doing things with your kids. You and your kids remember those moments, more than gifts. For a child, your presence is more important than presents.

I learned that more money coming in doesn't make you richer than someone else. Most of the time it just means they have more bills. In effect making them poorer than you are. If you make (for example) $3000 a month but have no bills, you have way more money than they do making $10,000 a month and 15 bills!!! It is all relative.

Exactly!! I was thinking the very same thing. They make 10k/month but what are their expenses? Single income households like ours make significantly less and ((hopefully)) have less expenses. Then I see the prices for renting/mortgage and I wonder how single income households “do it” and well... sadly most of the time - they don’t! Living buried in debt and still trying to keep up with the Jones’. What a horrible way to live.

Budget Mom you are the highlight of 2020 for me, number 1 on "great discoveries" for 2020, a "turning point", or however you want to call it when looking back at last year in the beginning of a new year. Thanks to your YT videos I finally understand how to budget and save money. Found you in July 2020 and now, first time in my life (I could be your mom, age wise) I have healthy looking bank accounts. No more head in the sand, "oh I'll see to that later". Later is now, no time to waste etc. ;-) Thank you very much for sharing your insights and keep up the good work. Happy new year!!

Our plan is to do January and February to make sure we know what we are doing and haven't messed up. Then in March, we believe there will be enough let to completely pay off one of the debts. The wife says she want s to go to school could this amount be for her and not her daughter? Also while they are paying off debt the variable spending needs to be reduced. The eating out, the allowances, the beauty and home budget can all be reduced as well as the phones there are much cheaper plans on the market. My guess is they upgrade to the latest phone which is an expense they do not need.

While we're not military and my budget is smaller, you have some tips on here that I'm going to implement. I use a calendar as part of my budget binder to help me figure out what gets paid when, and color coding the bill, rather than the date look smuch easier to visiaulize (I'm very visual and spatial, so little picture had to fit in the big picture). We had to put about $1300 onto a card for much needed car maintenance/repairs. It's much cheaper to take care fo the car you have than to try to buy a car you financially can't handle right now. We were lucky that my hubs family gave us the money to cover the credit card bill, but it's important to me that we pay it back. So I'm budgeting an amount (higher than the minimum) that we will pay each month back to my inlaws.

Just an additional note unless they plan on doing a ditty move which is means they move the military will pay them for that they also pay Perdiem for food as a travel it’s extremely high so there really won’t be any out of budget cost for moving and if the military moves them since I was moved before the military pays for the entire packing moving and transportation as well so the Perdiem again is high there they’ll be no moving expenses most likely just from my experience since I’ve done this before

Yes the military pays for it but it’s nicer to pay in cash rather than on the military credit card and still have to possibly pay that before getting reimbursed. We also had moving in costs that’s not included ( if they live off post they have to pay deposits, or pro rated rent ) Also they could have more weight than allowed and do a partial so they don’t have to pay out of pocket and could still go over what the government pays

As a college kid I can say $50,000 is about a years worth of college or 2 if you stay in state. $50,000 would be doable is she utilized 2 free years a community college. (That’s what I am doing. Not sure if all states have it. I’m in NC so public college is relatively cheep.) I would save $100,000 to $200,000 to cover college. My parents have 2 accounts for my college. One is a stocks account. My grandpa gave a guy $10,000 when I was born and he’s played with stocks my entire life. The second account is one made for education so the taxes are different. (Idk what it is) my grandparent put $5,000 in it every month since I was born and are still adding to it as I’m in college because my career requires a year of unpaid internship. My parents have put anything in my account themselves but if you have $10,000 up front and $5000 every month. It’s completely doable. This is just what worked for my family. We’ve done it with 4 kids. All of the grandkids are debt free and educated. My grandparents one both sides of the family are obsessed with us being debt free.

So I noticed in the video that Miko talks about getting rid of the debts, but what she doesn’t talk about is how much the minimum debt payment is on those debts and once that is paid what is left over for the extra payment. Am I correct? Or did I miss that part? I think that would change how soon they are able to pay off those debts.
@hopegate9620

The minimum debt payment is in the bills . Extra debt payments are anything that aren't included in the minimum debt payment, thus they are in a different category
@randaray24
@randaray24 2 жыл бұрын
Right! Those 8 debts minimum payments added together would be a nice chunk to throw at the rest of the debt or add to savings. Of course she said snowball method so I assume that was part of her calculation for the next month.

Definitely not for the money unless you’re going in with a Bachelors degree. My husband is enlisted and makes about half of that in base pay on top of about $3k/ month for housing. Her husband is probably senior enlisted or an Officer.

she makes good money as a pharmacy tech too! im a pharmacy tech in nyc and we literally start at min wage and you have do do and know ALOT. im in nursing school now so im really hoping this lady makes the jump to up her income! also the "not working while going to school" is dangerous. i worked so much during school i had to stop going to school for 2 years bc my family literally said "ur on ur own" after highschool. and i dont blame them. i would contribute to my child's tuition BUT i would end it there. having a part time job while in college is VITAL. unless your kid is in an accelerated program or medical, dental, something so rigorous they cannot work. but ur kid should def be working a part time job while in a normal standard 4 year college.

I hope they see this comment, they should see if they can get SCRA applied to some of the loans and lower the interest rate and get it credited back to you. Many companies ( synchrony and possibly Others) go above and apply this to after the date of joining! There are some Facebook groups with getting this applied to the account

Hi i am Brian, my wife Kris is disabled going back to hospital as very scary situation in order to stay alive since i haven't had my job opened that works around Kris's docs and hospital stays. Yet for a year except one month getting only the unemployment paying us $1100 a month and was a RT yet had to wait tables once Kris got disabled and down to nothing yet thanks to couponing stuff free and money gotten back yet need to pay of debt. Are you still selling your budget binder, the large one? As Kris has to go back to hospital on Fri as want to order as if we get miracle after we pray they get hospitalist attending in charge after her surgeons and other chief docs outside all found out Kris was in and none of them called in to keep Kris alive. Yet sent home. we don't want to lose out on getting one of your budget binders with the rebate money she has earned, as if all goes well Kris will be in hospital for a while.Thank you as i pray my wife/soulmate gets help as does all her chief specialists in shock that she can't see residents outside hospital yet after we asked s. worker as must advocate for yourself due to prior bad experience earlier i year we still had them assigned to wife as she is a paraplegia, paralyzed suffered lying on broken ankles, and more. Love your channel as pray you all get to follow your dreams as so much changed in our life so fast. Kris got disabled after taking care of her mother who passed away from MS. As she had to put her clothing line then was going to start business with father as i was finishing med school. Yet overnight inherited disease and now its been very rough as we both never got to have our careers. Kris has to go back into hospital, believes she is still alive to help others about healthcare especially after what just happened in hospital with docs harming her as i am sllowed to be with her 24/7, not any of her critical stuff taken care of, not any of her chief specialities called in that need to do many suegeries. When no one was even in covid hear. She is blessed to of found your channel so i can see how you can get debt paid off. As a quote sais prior to this last hospital admission she did believe and so many problems this year yet sais has to believe as you show and since 2006 that a quote we have with little at times and then the amount made that, Nothing is imposible, the word itself sais i'm possible." by audrey hepburn. You all sound like kind people and may all of you stay safe and healthy and have a better year!!! Sorry for the long post as just pray you all your dreams come true staying healthy as everyone deserves the best in life.Thank you-Brian Kris's husband

I just can’t wrap my head around keeping cash in envelopes. If your house burns, your cash burns. If you keep it in your purse and someone snatched your purse they get your cash.
@FannyGodMother
@FannyGodMother 3 жыл бұрын
I would think a few thousand dollars in cash burning is the least concerning thing when your house burns down. Also, people who keep large amounts of cash can probably just put it in a fireproof safe. As far as purse snatching goes, you aren’t carrying around thousands of dollars.... it’s just your variable expenses so it could be a couple hundred dollars but people know their own neighborhoods and know the risks so I’m sure they will plan accordingly.

I still do her methods but through my checking account. I use the wallet but I have the cashless spending categories. It’s a little harder because you have to keep up to date along with income and transferring money to sinking funds accounts but it still works great 🙂 our home has been broken into previously and our vehicle so we don’t feel comfortable with money being left in a hiding spot in our home.

Miko keeps her cash envelops in a fireproof safe. Most of her sinking funds and her emergency fund is in the bank. Most people just take out a couple hundred dollars per week into the cash envelops. If they loose a couple hundred, its definitely frustrating but not the end of the world. You should have an emergency fund in the bank for in case the house burns down.

A lot of people who grow up poor end up having habits like these when they get better paying jobs/get money from insurance or something. It took me years to stop overspending even after I got out of poverty. I just wasn’t used to having money and always spent it.

I wonder why they want to save for retirement when the army has retirement...
@Nick-ei8lt
@Nick-ei8lt 2 жыл бұрын
Also I would like to add the military moves you so they don’t actually have to pay anything you can either choose household good movie free of charge they even pack your stuff for you or you can choose to move it for yourself in which case he use the government travel card and provide the receipts also when you do it that way you’re awesome entitled to a large chunk of change back. Next as far as retirement when you enlist into the army you can sign up for an IRA or thrift savings plan which most military members do they also offer something similar to a 401(k) retirement he’s already good for also she could’ve set up an IRA as well she just chose not to. So I’m really not sure what you mean by they need to save for this move and so they don’t have to stress about it when that’s absolutely not how it works it would behoove you to next time doing a military budget tippers know what you’re talking about and how the expenses break down. Also you can absolutely go to finance and get your pay period changed to getting paid once on the first of the month therefore you don’t have to have it on the first and the 15th you see we’ve gone through finance briefs every time you enter an in process a new installation so there’s been many times that the service member in this scenario has been told that. And yet I literally mean if he has been in for 15 years he has had to sit through several two hours long finance briefs that usually happen across a two day. Therefore anything finance related he will already know so I’m not entirely sure what you have to offer here.

We are saving for our kitchen. And we want to save for out home. And we are on a low buy year. And i want to save each year 600 dollars for her education. But we get child money from the goverment. And we pay the health insurance. We live in the netherlands. So We get a little money from the goverment. But my husband earns now a little amount from what he gets when it is spring. So he gets lets say 5000 and in the high season 9000. SO we need to pay some depts we have from the companies my husband buys his stones plants and platforms for the gardens. So we will see what we will do with the rest of the savings. I can start stuffing envelops within 10 weeks not sooner. So we have a hole in our monthly income. The depts are a small amount
