There are 257 picks in the NFL Draft and the Jet have #10... that's DRAFT GOLD, that's "Starting Quarterback Territory" not Tight End territory. If the Jets took one of the top two or three Wide Receivers I guess that would be debatable, but a TE? I don't see it.
@andrewjacobson37589 ай бұрын
Great video! Need more vids like this! I would rather go OT for the salary reasons/ depth issues with injury concern but this kid can ball. Wonder if the reason TE’s look so good out of college is because they can expose matchups with bad coverage LB’s as opposed to just CB’s like receivers do. Regardless, good work Buffalo 🫡

Gronkowski was drafted in the 2nd Round. Kelce was drafted in the 3rd Round. Kittle was selected in the 5th Round. LaPorta was selected in the 2nd Round. Taking Bowers at #10 overall in the 1st Round is an incredible reach historically speaking.

@BillySBC9 ай бұрын
@@TheBuffaloJetFan Well I think you really want a Kelce or a Gronk or a Tony Gonzalez, and that is clouding your view of just how high a pick we're talking about here. A Top 10 pick in the draft is "Starting Quarterback Territory" and we're gonna go TE way up there? It would be a historical reach, it's hardly ever been done, and I don't see the Jets doing it really.
@hawk10939 ай бұрын
I sat, I listened... I considered everything you've said... Brock Bowers is not worth a top 10 pick to the NY Jets. Not this year, not with this team, not with this OC. I would rather have Garrett in the slot and Mike WIlliams and Odunze or Brain Thomas JR on the outside if we're going to go weapon... but we shouldnt go weapon, if we have to pick at 10 and cant trade back, pick 10 should be the best tackle available even though its not the flashy sexy move. If we trade back, tackle should STILL be the first pick and take a day 2 WR. There is no scenario where the Jets should take Bowers at 10 and then be waiting to pick 72 for Oline. Can't do it. Run through some mocks and see what happens, it decimates the draft every time. NO NO NO NO NO! Team needs: OT, G, WR, S TE isnt on the list and it surely shouldnt be spending our best pick on one in the best tackle class in 5 years.

I'm all about getting a TD machine with our 1st round pick.....and, getting veteran insurance as the swing tackle as opposed to that insurance being a rookie. Easier said than done regarding veteran insurance at T. I say all this because of our specific situation....which is WIN NOW! Otherwise, I believe we would be in a trade down situation to get another or two top 100 picks. The thing about Brock Bowers that kinda scares me is he is unique and doesn't fit in just any scheme...he would need to be used uniquely. That takes unique coaching. We all know better than to have confidence in our coaching staff to use a unique weapon correctly. If we find a way to acquire one of those top 3 WR's that works too. If you recall, A Rodgers is on record saying he never had 1st round WR's to work with during his time in GB.... Our #1 pick is gonna be Bowers or a WR because of our situation. The prudent thing would be an O-lineman or trade down, but we're living in the moment with this squad. It's about right now.

@kgordon88349 ай бұрын
I'm all aboard with Bowers. He's a weapon in the middle that Rodgers will pick defenses apart with. He's a mismatch for most linebackers with his speed and too big for nickel corners to bring down. He basically makes defenses have to run a 3 safety set, and I like guys who can dictate a defense. Besides, Rodgers needs another weapon. Williams is coming off an ACL and everybody is just assuming he has Breece Hall/Adrian Peterson healing power, but the average athlete usually needs a year before feeling like themselves again. We don't know how explosive he is going to be off the line this year or if he's even going to resemble what we saw with the Chargers. I know I'm in the minority, but unless it's Alt, I don't want to spend my #10 on a guy who's riding the bench when the team is at full strength. I'm ok with Bak on a 1 yr deal playing the backup swing tackle role.

I’m excited no matter who we get, so long as its one of Bowers, BPA at OT, or Odunze. My PREFERENCE is to trade back, grab an OT and WR in the 2nd, but we can’t control whether or not some GM wants to trade up to 10. If we can’t trade back, perhaps we can use our two fourth round picks and/or our third to trade back up into the second. If we do stick and pick and go the skill route though, I think I prefer Bowers to Odunze. Odunze is a freak athlete with an exciting highlight reel, I get it, but his route tree is limited, his route running is sloppy, he doesn’t get consistent separation, doesn’t get consistent YAC, and for a dude his size he can get bullied off his path within the first five yds too often. His contested catch ability is INSANE, but from what I’ve seen, contested catch WRs always seem the most likely to bust at the next level. I would argue Bowers has shown to be a better WR than Odunze in every aspect of his game besides the contested catch.

WR's and TE's have markedly different utilities. It's not analytically sound to use raw yardage to compare the 2 and discount TEs because TEs/Bowers especially in 12 personnel allow the qb to dictate terms to the defence because pass/run are both viable, in ways that WRs can't. He even allows 11 personnel because he's deadly from the slot. In the playoffs you need to own the middle of the field as well as open up the deep shots (play-action). He'll also be able to see the field straight away whereas OL pick or even Odunze wouldn't start over what we already have. In a win now season we need results straight away on the field not on the shelf saved for later. Jets can get depth in the mid rounds, sign Bakhtiari. hey BJF , i would rather jets fill an immediate glaring need , not tight end , and have not been on the bowers train @10, his blocking is not great , but i will say this ,neither 49ers kittle ,nor kc's kelsey's run blocking ability was great in their first years, they both got better at it, and have not heard a word about their blocking problems the past few years. bowers is about same size also , so the question would be ,, is bowers such a huge difference over our current tight ends , that he would change the outcomes of games if he were in the game, and we'd be eternally regretful if we didn't draft him with our first pick @ 10.

I wouldn't mind Brock Bowers, I think he's going to be a very good player. But what I think to myself is - Odunze > Bowers, Brian Thomas Jr. & 2nd round OT > Bowers, Troy Fautanu & 2nd round WR > Bowers. If Odunze is gone, and we can't get good value to trade down then sure, go for Bowers. In 2023 seven TEs in the league had 800+ yards, one had 9+ TDs. Look at receivers - 27 of them had 1k+ yards, six of them had 9+ TDs. I just think the value of a top WR or the combo of an OT + WR outweighs the value of even an elite tight end more often than not.
@jdunlap8509 ай бұрын

@@jdunlap850 Well that's why I was saying if Odunze was gone and we couldn't get good value to trade down, then go for Bowers. A pick doesn't have to be a "1 pick for 2 picks". If we're trading down in the teens, It could be something like a team trades up, gives up a 2nd, but also swaps picks with us in the 3rd or 4th to make it a little less lopsided.

@@maristoldboys5466 I see your point but I'd argue that Odunze would see the field immediately as Garrett Wilson can play all 3 receiver positions and last year Mike Williams was used in the slot with great success - albeit with a small sample size . All 3 of Wilson, Williams, and Odunze showed they can win in the middle as well with the caveat being that Odunze is much better lining up on the outside but has no issue working deep and intermediate routes that go towards the middle. Hackett eventually adjusted the variety of offensive looks to cater to Zach Wilson who seems to be much more comfortable with 12 personnel than he is with 11 but before that, we were running 11 personnel to a high degree with 3 receivers because that's the offense we had for Rodgers. The OL and Odunze preference is because 1. Tyron Smith will inevitably miss games 2. Both tackles are on a one year deal 3. Mike Williams is still recovering from an ACL and even if he's ready to go by game 1, he won't be 100% and 4. Williams is on a 1 year deal as well. We can call it an "all-in" year but grabbing Odunze or a tackle is valuable for both this year and next year. I like Bowers but to me that seems short-sighted when next year you'll again be looking to replace both starting tackles and a wide receiver in a season where our cap situation will be much worse and we have to start negotiating with Sauce, Garrett, Jermaine and possibly Breece regarding extensions to their contracts.
@Axt3r9 ай бұрын

With the injury issues of the OL, the Jets desperately need a swing tackle. Bowers is interesting but you take him only if you can get that player some other way, either later in the draft, free agency including late cuts, or trades. Much of the NFL is seeking left tackle help so it is risky to hope to resolve it later. You really can't say the same thing about tight ends. So I go offensive line.
