Paint or stain rafters black then fill in between rafters with light pine or cedar you would need to nail some 1” nailers to put the light colored boards on to cover the insulation. This way you can make a mess on the insulation when painting or staining rafters. Definitely leave the attic open. It already looks nice and clean. Cedar always looks amazing and it smells so good.

I would break the room up. Your idea of using galvanized metal in a waynescotte on the short walls is good. 7:12 Use a large enough chair rail to use as a small shelf. The back wall could be done with vinyl plank flooring that looks like hardwood flooring. That may be cheaper than natural wood. I would “mud” the front wall and paint it. The ceiling needs to stay open otherwise your room, as small as it is, will feel too closed in. Let me know if you have questions.
@SteveRoyer-t6e9 ай бұрын
Forgot to mention that you could use the barn wood as base and casing. Ripped down to 1 1/2” strips you would trim out the top and sides of your back wall. The chair rai above the wainscoting should be barn wood as well. You build it in an “L” shape for support. Another suggestion would be to build wall plaques out of the barn wood for a select group of your European mounts our just the antlers without skulls.

In my opinion, barn wood is pretty played out. I think T&G blue pine is a classy look and the light shade won't make the room feel small. A fresh coat of paint and wainscoting is a nice look too. I was happy to see you uploaded a new video, nice to see you.

I did an accent corner at an old house I used to own. We used cedar pickets from a local box store (cheap). It's worth it to stand at the chop saw and cut the dog ears off... I'd get about 4-6 pickets at a whack. One piece of advice I can give you is leave them in the space for a while, as they DO shrink quite a bit. Also, paint the walls matt black before you install the wood. It helps hide any inconsistencies in the joints between the wood. I ran mine horizontally and it looked really nice. If you want an even cooler look (did this too...) grab the ole BurnZomatic propane torch and char it a bit. Brings out the grain of the wood and gets rid of some of the stringy bits left by the saw mill. We sealed ours too, but use a water based sealer or stain, otherwise it's going to stink... For. Ev. Er. Ask me how I know.......... Have fun!

I designed and built my own pool house bar. I found plenty of barnwood that people were reallly proud of. After looking around ,I found alot of people giving away old fence boards. After a few swipes with a wire brush, it looks like weathered barnwood.

Here in ky weathered barn lumber is the honey hole. Tobacco was a main cash crop and these barns housed it. Its gotten so bad that its getting stolen. Give a crackhead $1000 and they will deliver with metal. 😂 I just done my sun room/deer hut in white pine 7" tounge/groove. Still needs a ceiling and can not make my mind up on what I want there. My dad done popular saw mill cut with fairing strips. Looked aewsome. My buddy done his office in T111 siding 5' and old barn metal 3' on the bottom with a cover strip. You be you. We only look at it temporarily in videos. You look at it every day. Just a FYI the barn lumber out of ky was mainly red oak. 50yrs later its like drilling concrete. Nail gun doesn't want any of that smoke, trust me. What I've installed i had to predrill the screw holes. BTW if you need bourbon barrels. I live in the capital of the world of bourbon. Pedestal mounts on barrels are pretty common here. I can load up and do a turkey hunt all in one trip. 😮

I wouldn’t paint the ceiling black man unless you want to add more lighting. Also if you painted the ceiling black it makes the room feel smaller, I’d go wood on the walls maybe just do one wall in wood and paint the rest.

Dirk - I just did this in my garage and found an outfit here in Boise that supplied me all the cedar wood pre-coated to look like barnwood for less than a buck a foot. I went vertical rather than horizontal after many hours of debate....I didnt want the seams and I'm really pleased how it turned out. Let me know if you're interested in more info and I could even send you a few pics of how it turned out.

It looks like it's not very big in there. I would not do a lot of dark because it will make the entire room too dark. One wall with the wood would look really good. Can't wait to see what you do.
@gregs91879 ай бұрын
If you put barn wood on the wall it will make that room way darker. The usable light will get robbed. Expect to add more lighting. Buy flat black paint to paint the walls behind so any knots or gaps will look like shadow. I wish I had social media to show you my place. I rusted my own tin for around the base of my house and I have barnwood walls and barn doors made out of the same wood for my office. We ran out of barnwood so we used old cedar fence boards to finish the laundry room. Both options are awesome.

The rusty tin can be done with vinegar and new material. The fence boards are the way, at a buck a piece that's the easy button. To mix it up you could distress a few wider boards and put them in at random. The distressing is easy. Vinegar and steel wool in a bucket, just mop it on. I would go horizontal though.

Good ideas for sure if your gonna hit the studs with your blue pine boards horizontal is certainly it unless your nailing into the OSB, sheating. I would either Sheetrock the ceiling or car siding pine and then blow in insulation if that’s a heated space I assuming it is and would want to be hence the snow cover, good luck with all, it’s one of those things that’s hard to get into the mood for but once you commit it’s super satisfying enjoying the hard work later

How you doing? If it were my shed, I would make it look timber framed. Some of the “beams” can be thinish but appear to be mostly buried in the wall. With that style, you can go horizontal with the fence boards and hide the seams behind the “beams”, which would not require any more skill than Homer possesses. If I were closer I’d help… and I have a sawmill but apparently you were not thinking about me when you bought that place.
